Is it actually getting made?
Nah, I can’t get hype for Tarantino and his many non-projects. I enjoy his movies as much as the next guy, but Pulp Fiction is really the only one that’s more than just a clever regurgitation of his influences.

goddammit i talked about prom night 2 a page back…or maybe it was in the dvd thread. anyway, prom night 2, 3, and 4 are all pretty damn good believe it or not, although only the highly edited version of part 3 is available on dvd and the transfers for both part 3 and 4 blow
oh yea thats what made me buy it, your comment!
i didn’t even know it was coming out
the burbs is one of those movies where i wouldn’t change a thing, not even tom hanks. i don’t really dislike tom hanks, nor do i think he’s a bad actor, but i also don’t think he’s as good as people make him out to be. he was very good in big.
So, I just put in an order for the Terminator 2 UK HD-DVD (dead format, I know, but the quality on this one is supposed to be one of the best) from xploitedcinema, which from word of mouth is a pretty good site for hard to find or import dvds/hd-dvds and blu-rays.
While I was browsing the site, I saw a Blu-Ray for Infernal Affairs, which I’m tempted to pick up, and a blu-ray for Sukiyaki Western. I know a few people here saw SW, should I just wait for a domestic release? The import was $42.95 before shipping :-/ I haven’t seen the movie yet, but the trailer looked pretty awesome. Would I just be better off buying the standard DVD instead?
Going to go see Stop-Loss this Friday, been hearing it’s not too bad of a movie and definitely isn’t a typical teenie-bopper film.
Hanks has a great advantage in that he’s very naturally charming. He’s like Jackie Chan: you can’t help but like him at least a little, no matter what he’s in. It’s a great boon for roles like Charlie Wilson’s War, in which the character on the page is not particularly likable. Putting an actor with a likable type in the role ensures that the audience will have a much easier time rooting for a guy who starts off as a scumbag.
As far as his skills go, he’s not on par with the likes of DeNiro or Nicholson, but he’s hardly crap.
Not to be negative or contrarian or anything, but I heard that it’s crap. Another Iraq war film that spends too much time driving its message and not enough time on everything else.
Of course, I have not seen it and I do not personally know.
his character was not likeable??? hahaha i like his character HAHAHA…
im outi

Just watched Sweeny Todd. It was okay. Didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either.
How is T2 UK? I almost went out to buy a HD player because of it. But I held back and decided to wait for a BD version… which I hope comes out lol.
I enjoyed Sukiyaki Western a lot. Which isn’t saying much depending on what kind of movies you like lol.
Well, the trailer for Sukiyaki Western looked really good. I think I’ll pick it up on DVD then wait till the import BR price comes down, or wait for a domestic BR release.
I haven’t gotten the UK HD-DVD of T2 yet, should be coming soon. I’ll let you know how it is. Reading reports on avsforum though, it has better video quality than the German steelbook ultimate HD-DVD that just came out (though the german one has way more extras). Through comparison though, the video quality ranking goes like this (according to screenshots I’ve seen and comparisons on avsforum):
US Blu-ray < German HD-DVD < French/UK HD-DVD
i just got this laserdisc today and was going through both sides of the first disk

don’t think its on dvd tho, only laser disc
here’s what is on it

yeah i would kill to watch that. kevin fuckin tenney.
if you’re ever in NJ let me know and you can watch it
payed way too much for this on ebay ($175 ) but worth it so far and only 1/4th through it
So I recently saw atonement, and it was garbage. Cliched, overdramatic, piece of crap. With the stupidest ending i’ve seen in a long time. James Mcavoy is still a fantastic new actor though.
I recently bought a Audrey Hepburn compilation. Has all the good movies, but also has funny face, which I dislike. Roman Holiday > *
I just watched Sweeney Todd, Sleepy Hollow, Shogun Assassin 2-4, and Lone Wolf and Cub 6: White Heaven in Hell.
Sweeney Todd was good with Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, and Alan Rickman perfectly cast. The best scene was Alan Rickman in the courtroom. Classic, godtier Rickman. Some of the songs are a bit overlong and the young dude who wants Depp’s daughter is annoying and has way too much screentime. They should have cut most of his stuff and left Christopher Lee in. Still a good flick overall and the best musical since Cannibal the Musical. Rickman needs more screentime though.
Sleepy Hollow is still my favorite Tim Burton movie with Batman Returns as a close second.
Shogun Assassin 2: Lightning Swords of Death is ok as it retains the cheesy, grindhouse dub, synth score. It was actually dubbed originally in the mid 1970s from the third Lone Wolf and Cub movie and released on the grindhouse circuit as “Lightning Swords of Death.” The first two Lone Wolf and Cub flicks were spliced together in 1980 to make the classic Shogun Assassin. The originals are of course much better but eventually even they degenerated into stupidity and completely veered from the classic manga, which is imo the best japanese comic of all time. Shogun Assassin is worth buying as is the “first” of its “sequels.”
Shogun Assassin 3 and 4 are just semi-successful attempts to create the same grindhouse vibe of 1 and 2. The dubs were only create last year and do not have the same level of epicness as 1 and 2. 5 is coming out later this year and will be the final one in the series as the first was made from the first 2 of the sixth lone wolf and cub flicks. Worth a rental as they are both entertaining. If a boxset comes out for a reasonable price, I would buy it just to get 1 and 2 of the Shogun Assassin dubs.
Lone Wolf and Cub 6: White Heaven in Hell is the last, worst, and least faithful to the comic of the legendary film series. Basically they ditched the epic ending of the comics and made some stupid ski battle with a hint of medieval japanese hot tub sex. The film was still enjoyable though but not worth buying outside of the LW&C dvd boxset. Rent it.
So, I watched the UK T2 HD-DVD. It was great! The pic quality didn’t look amazing during the first sequence (the future war), so I was a little disappointed, but after that, you can really see how sharp the picture is. Really great quality. Sound, too. This edition has the Director’s Cut only, which I’ve never seen. Its been a while since I’ve watched T2, so I think these scenes were the new ones…

[details=Spoiler]
It was pretty cool. The movie still holds up well. Its a little light on extras (actually, there are no real extras on it), but I’m glad I bought this HD-DVD.
Side note, when I was checking out the disc at first just to see the quality, I left it playing and went to the bathroom, and when I got back, my wife told me that you could see Robert Patrick’s wang at some point. When he arrives in the 90’s and is picking up the cop’s gun, he turns a bit and you see something in the crotchular region. I think there’s something covering it, but you definitely see something.
really? sleepy hollow over adventure, ed wood, nightmare or bettle juice? i wasn’t a fan of sleepy hollow, especially when stacked against some of his other work…
I rented “The Mist”. I don’t know if there’s some deeper meaning, or I missed some sort of artistic concept, but I thought it was a horrible, horrible movie. Bland characters, cheesy CGI, retarded premise that took itself way too seriously, stupid ending that defeated the purpose of the previous 89 minutes, etc… Really bad. 3/10.
Lol Chair in re: to T1000. Pretty sure it happens in regular version haha. I’m waiting for a proper BD version, so for now I’m watching the Ultimate DVD.
88 Minutes is shit. I don’t know what Pacino is doing, but the film is awful.
