The SRK Movie Fanatic Thread (REVIEWS, QUESTIONS, RANTS, STARS...ETC.) EVERYTHING!

Collateral was wack, who agrees with me?!

didnā€™t see itā€¦iā€™m not a fan of micheal mann or tom cruiseā€¦or really jamie foxx for that matterā€¦

It was shorter and less epic than the other modern Mann movies (Heat, Ali, Insider)ā€¦ nothing happened in the movie, the character development was weak and the dialogue wasnā€™t engagingā€¦ the typical Mann style was there but thatā€™s all the ā€˜typical Mannā€™ that you can expect from the movieā€¦ and it really bothered me that Foxx was a lowly cab driver but he had the PERFECT Ceasar cutā€¦

Not being completely negative, it was one of Cruiseā€™s better performancesā€¦ he didnā€™t ā€˜actā€™ the way he always acts in every movie (for instance Iā€™d say that Cruise ā€˜actedā€™ in MI3 the same way he did in Jerry Maguire or Vanilla Skyā€¦ he was fairly different in Collateral but nothing groundbreaking)ā€¦

Also the digital camera work was interestingā€¦ I guess Mann was trying to capture the look of LA being illuminated by flickering fluorescent light, and while itā€™s not perfect, a digicam captures that look better than filmā€¦ weā€™ll see more of that in Miami Vice, but in smaller amountsā€¦

Anyway for a Mann movie it was VERY disappointingā€¦ thatā€™s pretty much my favorite director right now and the movie didnā€™t have the character development that I like from his filmsā€¦

i thought the movie was really goodā€¦

why do you think the character development was weak???

im outi

Roberth

Iā€™m trying to find a theater that shows that movie too. That show was funny.

the complete series is on dvd for 39.99 on amazon, i think iā€™m gonna pick it upā€¦

I know the movie only takes place overnight, but I guess thatā€™s the problemā€¦ Cruiseā€™s character either has no depth or we never get to see itā€¦ compare with Heat where we see all sides of Deniroā€™s character-- he has thug values and kills without hesitation but he respects family values and can dine a decent girl chick out. Cruiseā€™s character basically kills for money, but we never find out why he does that or what else is going on in his lifeā€¦ the whole movie just felt shallow compare to other Mann moviesā€¦

ok, i got a rant. i am in the midst of bravoā€™s top 100 comedies, and it is BY FAR, the worst list i have ever seen in my LIFE. its so bad it makes me want to commit homocide. they placed meet the parents above spinal tap, young frankenstien and dr strangelove!!! what the fuck?!? i know lists are bs anyways, but how they could justify these choices is beyond me. they had to ask the most retarded people in the world what they thought were the funniest films and took their adviceā€¦omg, its fucking horrible.

Angryliberal: Do you have a link to this list? I want to see how much it ā€œfailsā€.

Besides that, I finally watched Last Life in the Universe a little bit after whenever I mentioned it lastā€“was that two weeks ago? I quite liked it, even if it was a bit weird, at least in the way it ended; I should really expect this (from foreign films), but a lot of (American) movies have made thing thatā€™s going to be some egregiously happy endingā€¦especially if I want it.

looks mournfully at Dancer in the Dark

My only other thoughts on Last Life in the Universe, since Iā€™m even sure if P. Gorath has seen it (and if he has, heā€™s likely the only one), is that Noi smoked a lot. I mean, ye godsā€¦thatā€™s girl is ironically committing suicide more effectively than Kenji; this reminds me that I felt bad for his ā€œbossā€.

I am also reminded that there was quite a lot of smoking in Saved!, which I found odd since PG-13 and I thought they were trying to cut down on that; maybe that was only in comic books, which is why Wolverine isnā€™t smoking anymoreā€“yet is he in X3.

The other major movie that I saw was Monster, which was quite tragic. I was surprised, initially, about the sapphic element, since I donā€™t even remember that being hinted at in the trailers (on TV). Of course, considering Americaā€™s homophobia, that Charlize is playing an ā€œuglyā€ woman, and that Christina Ricci looks younger than usual in this movie, I can see why.

Speaking of Charlize, Iā€™m beginning to be convinced that she looks at least slightly attractive no matter what. The fact that she did the woman ā€œjusticeā€ā€“so not a pun since they executed herā€“makes that all the more apparent to me.

As I alluded to earlier, Iā€™ve seen a bunch of (minor) Sci-Fi movies on weekends, like I usually do, though I donā€™t know how many Iā€™ll waste my time with now that I have a job. Anyway, as per usual, they all ranged from"horrendous" to ā€œsimply lackingā€.

Except Jeepers Creepers 2. That was fairly decent. And debatably better than the prequelā€¦until the Creeper started doing KOF hyper hops because it was missing limbsā€¦

just to give you a small example - the following films got rated WORSE than ā€˜meet the fockersā€™:
dr strangelove
big lebowski
spinal tap
young frankenstein
blues brothers
tootsie
office space
princess bride
raising arizona
monty python/holy grail
clerks
annie hall

and some like it hot didnā€™t even make the listā€¦easily the most horrible list iā€™ve ever readā€¦

Dellamorte Dellamore is one of the worst movies Iā€™ve ever seen in my life. Do not, under any circumstances, view this film! Itā€™s atrocious. The characters are flat, as they all attempt to be crazy/funny/emotional/morbid/wicked awesome all at once and fail on all accounts. Thereā€™s no plot, thereā€™s no message, and zero resolution. Itā€™s not even comedic in how bad it is, it just hurts the brain.

Anyone remember Fresh? ā€˜Ghettoā€™ drama from the 90s about a chess-playing kid caught up in dirty street business. Recommended.

I remember that movie. I got to get that on DVD.

big weekend for movies. im going to see clerks 2, lady in the water, and monster house. I will try to find monster house in 3D. I dont care all the bad reviews lady has been getting - m. night has so far done no wrong in my book. Clerks 2 doesnt look great but Im still hoping dante and randall bring the good and jay n silent bob will not be in it much

What do you guys think of this movie?

http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/childrenofmen/

I like how the movie takes place about 20 years from now, but itā€™s not all implausibly futuristicā€¦

goddam netflix. sent me daredevil but i want the directors cut and now it looks like they dont even carry it. useless fuckers

watched two for the money on hbo, thought it was pretty crappy. was going to go see half nelson this weekend but will probably wait until next

Iā€™m actually suprised. I thought Talladega Nights and Accepted would be at the top. I guess thatā€™s one thing to be grateful for. Btw, Naked Gun and pre-murder O.J. FTW.

watched wallace and gromit curse of the were rabbit and was surprised at how much i enjoyed it. fun stuff, some good horror film homages too.

I just watched Little Miss Sunshineā€¦ and I have to admit it was very good.

Very funny stuff. I didnā€™t know Steve Carell was in itā€¦ but it was very entertaining. Definitely a thumbs up from me.
