There is a general tendency for people to hate sci-fi movies in general, unless theyāre obscenely stupid. Like Independence Day.
true, but Sunshine is kinda different. Act III is usually what people split on. some groups hated all of it until Act III; other groups loved it until Act III. beret-wearing internet movie critics say stuff like āit didnāt know what it was supposed to be,ā or āit got ridiculous.ā iām just saying i enjoyed it. i also enjoy Troma movies, disgusting pornography, and Nu-Metal, so probably donāt listen to me⦠:wonder:
itās definitely a movie to watch on Blu-Ray (i own the DVD and even that looks amazing). and the commentary tracks are great.
watchmen review up (all my reviews are intended for those that have seen the film)

Anyone who didnāt like the first 2 acts but liked the third donāt know anything about films let alone what it takes to make a good one. The third act wasnāt bad or implausible by itās own standards, or any of that it simply was too conventional and not up to par with everything that preceded it.
Iāll have my review up later tonight, for now I will say boyle is THE FUCKING MAN. Heās like dhalsim so versatile he can do anything well he made a damn good āzombieā film and I use that term loosely, a damn good family film, a stylish thriller with heavy violence, train fucking spotting, a great romance film, and a really good but uneven sci fi filmā¦wow what a way to not only run the gamut of genres but do well in each:tup:
Just saw a dvdrip of Martyrs

Such a fucked up movie omg
Trailer screams āFrench Hostelā to me. Is it any better than the other 5000 āperson tied to chair/tortured for 45 minutesā movies released lately?
I saw High Tension and really enjoyed it and a couple other recent French horror movies have been on my radar but that trailer makes the movie look really generic and dull.
martyers shits on any horror movie you have seen periodā¦
im outi

I thought Sunshine was pretty lameā¦just my two cents though
W. was fucking hilarious to me. Itās probably my favorite Oliver Stone film, surpassing even NBK.
Valkyrie was pretty good. One of Tom Cruiseās better movies for sure.
Slumdog had some GREAT cinematography going on. Very cool little movie.
As for Watchmen, in general, I like it. But it was NOT what it could have been. Some scenes just felt āsold outā to me, or Hollywooded out, if you will. The story couldāve benefited from a more intelligent director. The ending was kind of butchered (the fucking squid is supposed to be present, fuck your ālogicā Mr. Snyder), the pacing was somewhat inconsistent (particularly around the mid-point of the film), certain characters werenāt developed properly, and the music choices were annoying as hell at times (āHallelujahā during the sex scene comes to mind. Hell that whole scene is annoying). Dr. Manhattan was unquestionably the most faithful thing about the film, looking at the graphic novel. Well, Rorschach too. Rorschach and Manhattan are what I like most about the movie. Despite its faults, Iād probably give it a 7.5, maybe an 8.
Thatās it for recent movies Iāve seen that had any lasting effect for me.
You would be beyond wrong in that assessment. I have not seen the film, but based solely off the reaction of the true horror fans I know, Iām guessing this film will basically rip you out of your seat and fuck your head for days after seeing it. I will pass on watching it myself as that level of visceral experience isnāt for me.
I saw this topic posted over at the ReelViews forum, so Iām posting it both here and on Freak Safari. I personally found it interesting enough to devote an afternoon to making my list and slashing it down.

Movies this decade I really liked and would rewatch years after the hype died down. Not ranked
The Prestige
Frailty
Internal Affairs
City of God
Pitch Black
American Psycho
Snatch
Kill Bill vol 1+2
Batman movies
Unbreakable
There are so many movies this decade (examples off the top of my head: Gran Torino, Syriana and Body of Lies, all of Spielbergās directed sci-fi movies, Children of Men, V for Vendetta) that had a brilliant subject matter and bright moments, but I thought didnāt really come together as a satisfying or entertaining movie.
After much agonizing, here is my top 10 of the 2000s. But first, my criteria, generally in the order that I employed them.
Criteria:
And now, the list. I alphabetized them, because the process of selecting them at all is a muddy one. Trying to further order them by quality would end up being arbitrary and pointless.
Adaptation. (2002)
Children of Men (2007)
The Dark Knight (2008)
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
Memento (2000)
Superman II: the Richard Donner Cut (2006)
The Visitor (2008)
There Will Be Blood (2008)
WALL-E (2008)
World Trade Center (2006)
some of my favorite movies of the 2000s that I can run off the top of my head.
but yeah itās hard to evaluate a decade of cinema. sometimes you might see a movie long after the decade ended and it will easily be the best film of the era. Like how Martin Scorsese proclaimed The Horse Thief as the best movie of the 80s after seeing it in the nineties.
Not knocking your choice taito but damn never thought Iād see anyone in this thread put unbreakable as one of the very best films of the decade. And someone likes 28 weeks better then 28 days? daaaaaaaaamn.
GM superman2? ummm I thought only theatrical releases counted, anyways whatās with posting those bullet points as if anyone in this thread didnāt take all that into consideration lol but people around here love posting common sense.
maybe he didnt see 28dl thats easily the best zombie movie ever(IMO).\
I will make a top 10 list too I guessā¦no order.
