Machine Girl sequel

The Wrestler = pretty awesome, obviously. Biggest gripe is it sort of shys away from the subject of indie wrestling after the first 1/2 hour.

The biggest attraction for me was the camera and direction… the movie really puts you in the characters’ lives and shows you what they’re seeing/thinking/feeling, without having to add ā€˜on cue’ sappy music or overacting. The ā€˜routine’ camera/editing style reminds me of Pi a bit minus the insanity. The one thing I can’t hate Aronofsky for is imagery. The visual style for all his movies are spot-on for the subject matter.

Machine Girl Sequel: LoL. What the shit…

I did dig the first one. This one though…well, who knows. I’ll probably dig it too.

The gun comes out of her ass.

The comparisons from Benjamin Button to Forrest Gump are hard to ignore. Except for me Button had less of a point. The whole reading to the mother thing felt unnecessary. I wasn’t feeling the clock thing. The entire movie to me just feels like a concept more than anything, the movie doesn’t seem to really be about something. The story could have easily have been about a guy aging forward. Good imagery still I suppose. Bonus points for being the biggest movie shot in N.O. in a long time too.

Saw the wrestler the other night. Didn’t realize it would have such a sad ending (to me at least). I suppose it is a mixed bag though. The documentary film style was definitely interesting. It fit the movie though I don’t personally like it that much. Mickey Rourke is of course spot on for the acting. I can’t even imagine what Nicolas Cage would have done for the role. It seems written for Rourke.

The short story by Fitzgerald had Benjamin losing all interest in the wife as she aged, which I thought was one of the major points; was this the case in the movie?

No that was definitely not the case in the film…there’s more to it then that actually but go watch it I don’t want to spoil it for you just keep in mind other then the central characters unique physicality the film has little to do with the story.

does he try and keep kayfabe in any sorta way?
The thing is, he screwed up every one of his out-of-the-ring relationships, but when he was Randy The Ram he never betrayed his image in front of his fans.
I take that back about shying away from an inside look at wrestling… that’s just me not being a wrestling fan. I heard other people say Rourke’s character mirrored some other burnt-out wrestlers. The movie does switch gears and tackle other themes though.

And o yah this is my top movie of 08.

movies like Waking life, Vanilla Sky??? thanks.

even if i have to go by myself, as soon as the wrestler hits a theater close to me, i’m seeing it…

Sorry to ask off subject, but does anyone know the release date for Let The Right One In on DVD?

Saw Curious Case of Benjammin Button. Cried several times. It has so much heart, but its never sentimental or sappy. The visual effects are outstanding, I never noticed them. If they don’t get every single technical Oscar award, there is something seriously wrong with the system. Pretty much everyone was great in the film, although the captain character boarders on caricature sometime, but in the end he’s really a frustrated artist. Fincher’s visual style is on full-effect, but its not disturbing like Se7en or nihilistic like Fight Club. Its the perfect balance really, always staying on the right side of uneasy and dark. One thing I didn’t care too much about was the whole ā€œdaughter reading the bookā€ thing, but it works really well now that I think about it.

The Dark Knight and Wall-E might still be my favorite films of the year, but this is definitely a close third, maybe even BETTER than those two. My pick for Best Picture, although I really need to see The Wrestler as well.

the wrestler is opening in san diego next week! i know what i’m doing next sat…

Has anyone seen that Jesse James movie with Brad Pitt? I was thinking about Netflixing that one next but im a little scared.

I just watched Black Book. Verhoeven is the master of transcendental pulp trash.

It’s really long but Ben Affleck’s brother is good in it.

I’ve changed my mind about Taken…now I want to see it.
The cell phone convo at the end made it.
