The SRK Lounge v. 6.0: Random nonsense and tomfoolery

I will take this opportunity to shill for Gundam Vs. Extreme Maxiboost On. The game is a ton of fun and it includes multiple G-Gundam suits. Sadly when you see them in a match they’re the equivalent of a flowchart or Brazilian Ken. It breaks my heart that my dumb stereotype laden fighting Gundam series attracts that level of player. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

A legit 10/10 game.

I llved virtual on.

I want to superficially say it reminds me of VO, but I’m uncertain if that’s accurate or if I’m attaching too much bias / sentimentality to my Twin Sticks.

Ignoring that, I was legitimately shocked by how good Maxiboost is. I participated in the Beta just to give it a whirl having played some of the previous entries, but never finding them more than “good for a licensed game”. Somehow this one exceeded that limit.

As I type this, I think the most crucial aspect to the VO controls that’s missing in Maxiboost was the melee combat feel and jump/jump canceling of the twin sticks. I imported the Asian edition because I enjoy owning disc based media, but if it goes on sale on the US Playstation store I’ll buy it again to support the US release.

It would have been nice if Sega didn’t hate America and leave many of it’s games in Japan only. The lack of Phantasy Star Online 2 in English for NEARLY A DECADE, but relevant to this conversational thread also leaving Border Break as a Japan exclusive. Damn it Sega. I want to give you my money, but you only ever release Sonic and Yakuza games in America. :rage:

About Ehrgeiz I will never forget:

I. The annoying menu sounds
II. Prince Doza
III. The bonus Action-RPG that was more annoying than fun
IV. The bizarre final bonus boss

I personally had more fun with the gameplay design of Bushido Blade and its successor Kengo in the arena fighter genre. Everything else has been a bit too uncoordinated.

Yall remember Destrega? Lol

A lot of Ehrgeiz was iterative, like most fighting games of the 90’s.

The foundation is based squarely in Tobal roots. The character movement and blocking were more experimental, but the dungeon mode is pretty much a continuation of the Tobal 2 quest mode. Dream Factory then went on to make the adventure game Crimson Tears based entirely off of it for Capcom on the PS2.

My favorite part of Bushido Blade was clowning my weeb buddy who in the 90’s would mimic Guy from Street Fighter Alpha, doing his win pose and uttering - “buuuushiiiidoooo.

Then Bushido Blade releases, and I’d troll him by allowing him to stab me in the back for possibly the most hilarious victory since Virtua Fighter ring outs and he would be utterly baffled by the L he found himself holding. “BUSHIDO MOTHERFXCKER, DO YOU SPEAK IT?!:smirk:

My love of Bushido Blade has me curious about For Honor, but I’ve never pulled the trigger. I’d also like a good co-op component out of For Honor, but I’m not willing to do the digging the verify if that’s viable.

I remember Destrega wasn’t that Koei’s other attempt to cash in on fighting games? It was like a more booty Psychic Force. :stuck_out_tongue: Although I do legitimately enjoy Psychic Force 2012. It wasn’t great, but it refined the formula and was headed in good direction…

For Honor has a solo story mode and online multi player. It fundamentally works like Battlefield’s conquest with added grunts but has a 3 round 1v1 battle mode available. It uses a set of classes with set weapon/playstyle and features unlockable aesthetics and finishers for them. It has a stun/stamina system with 3 directions of attacks/blocks and a heavy focus on spacing and environmental kills. It is more a team game than a co-op game.

Nioh 2 is closer to an RPG version of Bushido Blade with Co-Op.

Man, fuck Grape-Nuts. That shit will break your teeth if you try to eat it dry, shit’s so hard. You could put Grape-Nuts in a sock, hit someone over the head, and kill them with it.

You’d be a cereal killer.

What I need to do is acquire this cereal, make deals on Craig’s List and make shady deals in the part at midnight selling cereal in dime bags

You gotta warm it up a bit, like oatmeal. It’s a game changer.

Somebody put me onto that years ago. Like wet wipes, I haven’t gone back. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
