Ok, I have a question. After AE gets thoroughly played…what happens after that? Is that the last revision? More characters?
Does this cycle keep continuing? Because new content is added and added it seems the bar will have to continue to be raised to keep interest, at least for casual players.
Shit I am still waiting for them to give everyone two supers like I thought they were going to do before SUPER came out. Was right about the Ultras but then again who cares.

This is only for arcades. Arcade SF4 saw a sharp decrease after the console version was released. The hardcore were still playing, but the casual/mid-level players were content to play at home. But by this time, SF4 had been in arcades for 6 months and saw a lot of action, so arcades were at least able to (hopefully) make back their money and get a little profit out of the game.
Now we’re talking about an arcade version of the upgrade of a game that already killed the original arcade version. Just putting SSF4 into arcades as-is would be financial suicide. The hardcore will play, but it’s not enough to bring the casuals back. Those casuals are necessary for the arcade to recoup its costs and turn a profit.
AE will probably drop for consoles 6 months or so after the arcade release, and at that time only the hardcore will be left playing AE in the arcades. But this is the same thing that happened for SF4 - that’s fine. The difference is that SF4 was new and not on console, while SSF4 isn’t. With nothing new to offer, SSF4AE would come out of the gate already dead.
The whole point is to give the arcades something fresh to get the casuals to come out and spend their dime. After half a year, the casuals can stop going to the arcade and that’s fine, so long as they were there for that initial 6 months. AE drops on consoles - the casuals are content to play at home, the hardcore are happy with the arcade version for tournaments, and arcades are happy because before the game died off they were able to make some money off it.
And then people would just complain about being forced to choose between two supers, even if you had them at the same time, due to only having one super bar. (And even if you could choose which super to use, then people would complain about some supers going neglected because they’re inferior the character’s other choice.)
As I’ve said before, literally everything is a no-win situation (for Capcom).
I stand corrected then, though one post doesn’t exactly make me think you’re hyped, especially with all the attention you’re giving SSF4 AE (even if it is negative), one would think that you cared far more about that than TTT2.
So Karin, Eagle, Sodom and R. Mika. Certainly…interesting beyond the seemingly requisite Karin.
Thing is though, that no character has really lost enough or played differently enough to justify an EX version. There aren’t really characters like Kyo who ended up getting massively changed between games anywhere in SF4 to merit an “EX” version of them. That only really leaves those ST “Old” versions, which are really more subtle changes that people would likely complain about as being too subtle.
…Doesn’t that kind of defeat the point, then?

This is the primary problem with SRK: They don’t understand that situations, or people’s opinions, can be multifaceted. There are plenty of reasons to criticizes both SF4 and Ono, similarly there are a lot things that Ono and SF4 have done extremely well. Just because the current situation is similarly multifaceted, has some aspects that are good and bad, does not mean that any previous opinion one had had on either Ono or SF4 is magically rendered invalid.
Similarly one can like things for separate reasons. I personally don’t like either E.Ryu or Oni based solely on an emotional reaction to it as a fighting game fan. I think they are lame; this is not an analysis of the characters and how they worked. If people were willing to admit some of this shit this fucking site would be more coherent. Don’t be fucking dumb.
This is the first time Street Fighter has had this cycle. People seem to forget that the story of the these games is taking on version to a certain point and then creating a new game. At this rate they could keep pumping out versions, but more likely than not they’ll just wait some years without new versions and then make a new game. From all I’ve read, the situation in which the community finds itself is completely foreign to the way it used to operate during arcades and the way it has survived since the inception of SRK. At this point, enjoy the ride and the fact that they are working to make the game better. The level of interaction and the constant stream of information from the company to the community as well as the way that this relationship will function is being played out right now. This is why the leak is bad since right now its all growing pains.

Holy shit…molar pains are the WORST shit I can possibly imagine. I can literally feel the pain creeping up to my brain. I am literally howling in pain right now. Something’s gotta give: either I jump off the top of my building to remove the pain, or I OD with all these painkiller pills (already took 4 of them in the period of 3 hours…I sorta recall that this is not a really wise method, but I really don’t care).
If something happens to me…you knew it here first! GGS SRK.
…
…Aaaaaaanyway, time release characters are such a joke. The operators can easily speed up the game clock…SHAZAM! UNLEASH THE HIDDEN CHARACTERS! Seriously, remember when MvC 2 was so hype because we all wanted to know what character would be unblocked next? Until someone came along and said “Look, fuckers, just tamper with the config like so…VOILA! A bajillion EXP points. The cast is COMPLETE!”
Oh, those MvC 2 days…I remember when I had the DC version, and the gangsta way of unlocking the secret characters was to leave your DC on all night in training mode, wake up the next morning, and cash in on 92828191920 EXP points.
Dreamcast…I barely knew ya. :shake:
True, but basically I’m kinda stating what I’d like to see in a SF game I’d like that’s new. On the EX note, one thing I would like to see in a new SF is a purely dreammatch title where the story is ignored and a bunch of characters from SF come back. For each character you’d have the option of choosing them in say, SF2 style, SF3 style, Zero, etc. Like…HSF2 or Vampire Chronicles.
As for it defeating the point, yeah kinda. But I figured I’d just say that since you already know how I think anyways. I’d try them out in SF4 if they made it, but just saying I’d like another system.
I don’t disagree with this whatsoever.
Not really…you could say its similar to the releases of the various SF2 titles, the upgrades to A2 and A3 (the latter more is like they took the opportunity to make changes in the transition to their home ports), SF3. Its “different” in how now we have DLC and all but I wouldn’t say its entirely different, or new.
Yeah, that makes sense. I had thought at first you were arguing that this arrangement was going to be longlasting, among other things regarding the casuals. I thought I had understood your earlier posts and I had not. Thank you for explaining and I apologize.
Still miffed at those designs, though.
Root Canals are hilariously painful. Like Mel Gibson, laughing hysterically from the hurt but of course not really because if you do you get to feel even more pain. Not that THAT would be possible.
You know your in for a rough day when the dentist whips out a needle longer than your finger.
Thanks for reminding me that my Dreamcast still worked last time I used even though my controllers are pretty much broken, Lantis.
Asshole.
Fair enough.
Personally, I’m kind of surprised that we haven’t seen a (non-versus) dream-match by now, though, despite Capcom retconning the hell out of everything. I mean, as much I actually find Gouken’s moveset rather interesting, him being suddenly alive again still a huge WTF, especially since Ryu and Ken have no reaction to it.
The hell? You’re telling me that Ryu isn’t going to be the least bit emotional upon learning that the man who is basically his father is actually alive? That Ken wouldn’t suspect something since (he thought) he saw Gouken die? That Gouken wouldn’t ask what the fuck happened to his daughter? Ugh…
eye twitch
I had assumed he meant to say “isn’t”. Otherwise, yeah, that statement doesn’t make any sense given Street Fighter history.

Dude, A LOT has changed since then. The biggest and most obvious would be online play. Even if I bought SF2 at home, unless I was inviting friends over to my house everyday to play, the competition was at the arcades. With SF4, I can sit at home and play people any time I want.
The home ports back then were all over the place (no one console got all versions of the game) and the ports themselves were always lacking in some way.
I was mainly referring to the multiple revisions. As for consoles I’m convinced that the Dreamcast could have gotten a “perfect” arcade port for example but (new characters aside) they attempted to do balance changes, and the DC version was ported back to the arcades as Upper.
Wasn’t really referring to the bad ports due to hardware lmitations.

I feel ya. I remember when my DC suddenly died out on me for no apparent reason. Of course, my brother took it to the handyman and it underwent RESURRECTION, but damn…this was WAAAAAY before the days of RROD and YLOD. LOL disk-based consoles.
Man, those DC controllers were some fuck in regards to fighting games. But hands down…the GC controllers are THE worst. Last Christmas, I was playing KOF '98 on the Orochi Saga Collection with my brother-in-law on a Wii using said controllers, and GODDAMN! There is NO natural order in the button layout whatsoever. You have this big ass green button…with a smaller red button on the lower side…and two awkward shoulder buttons on the right of said button…and I couldn’t help but miss my PS controllers. STILL THE BEST, BABY!
Oooohhhh…I can feel the molar pain subsiding already, thank God. I guess my liver will cash out in the next few hours, but in the meantime…YAY PILLS!

Ah, the Dreamcast. A console that died before its time. Only time I had trouble with mine was when I got Skies of Arcadia and Disc 2 stopped working. Plus, having to get batteries for the VMUs every 5 days were a pain.
In any event, don’t overdo the pain pills. I got my wisdom teeth removed and one time I overdid it on the painkillers. I was zonked out for 2 days, couldn’t sleep or anything. What a weird feeling.

Looking at the kid getting owned in class, I landed on this falcon punch video

The best system to ever survive the wheel of time was the SNES! That thing never broke on me and the controllers were self fixable. All you had to do was stuff toilet paper in them and the buttons popped right back up.
gamecube controllers actually make a lot of sense in soul calibur.

“Falcon…PAUWNNNCH! YES.”
*There’s a Staples commercial on lately that cracks me up every time…it’s an office scene with this kinda geeky looking guy saying “hey the printer’s out of ink.” There’s a fat guy tells him “Just shake it.” He then puts down the printer cartridge and shakes the whole printer. That by itself wouldn’t really be all that entertaining…but what really sells it is the facial expression of the fat guy watching him shake the whole printer. The look on his face is hilarious every damn time to me. Ah yes here it is This is a longer version of the commercial though…the edited one currently on tv has better comedic timing. (*which is unusual…normally the timing and jokes are ruined when they cut a commercial to be shorter) Check the look on that fat dude’s face…it just screams “This nigga here…shakin’ the whole damn printer are you serious?” as my fellow southerners might say.
Was I the only one who unlocked everything in MvC2 by playing it? I mean everything. How the fuck is leaving your console one “gangsta” to unlock something?
I thought SFIV should have been a Dream Match to start with. Make new characters for IV but throw in everyone else from 2, Alpha/Zero, 3…oh well.
I think the lack of KOF XIII and Final Showdown has me pumped for MK9 as well as having $ for it since the other two games aren’t coming out. Kung Lao combos look boss. Plus there’s a co-worker of mine that has funny roadie stories/crazy stories about life in general and he’s looking to play the new one. It’s funny that even if a game isn’t GREAT as long as it’s good and you enjoy the people it can be a lot of fun.
If SFxT is the last fighting game to come out for awhile, sans DLC for existing titles, I’m still good just because there are so many good fighters out there that haven’t been played.
WHY THE FUCK HASN’T A POWERSTONE COLLECTION BEEN RELEASED FOR XBLA?!
