Well it’s a NEW game, that we tentatively think is continuing a well established franchise and it remains 2D. Combined with the fact that the sprites have shifted to high resolution, I welcome the shit. The characters are FINE. Designs aren’t defined by just the static look of the character drawn. Sol and Ky are VERY plain. Hell, Ryu and Ken are VERY plain. But their movements are what make them who they are. The animation in this game is said to be smoother than even guilty gear, so imagine for a second, what Jin’s movelist could possibly be. I say there is still PLENTY of time to consider him a good design based on the way he actually moves. Same goes for the Sol ripoff…there’s no way to know that he won’t do the wildest shit after you start playing him.

That jump to 3D for SFIV is looking dumber and dumber by the day.

Aside from the similar color hair how is this on the bottom right guy similar to this guy?

Different clothes, different ages, different builds, different hair and hair color, even different skin tones. How are these two even somewhat similar besides their sword positions (mind you that one sword is far bigger then the other)?

I wouldn’t say it’s stupid but it definately isn’t as good as “Guilty Gear”.

Blazblue (pronounced Blae-Blue) sounds a little too French to me. Oh well maybe it will grow on me.

While I do agree that the use of 3D models is pathetically stupid I wouldn’t say it’s the new EX because so far in doesn’t sound to play or look to play (according to gameplay videos) like EX at all.

To me Ranga doesn’t look like Sol at all. The only thing he has in common with Sol is his stance is similar and they wear the same colors. And ya, he has a big sword like Order-Sol. His story is similar to Sol’s too minus being responsible for the war.(unless it later is revealed that Ragna is one the six). What people are doing is just looking for anything similar to GG, point it out and then proceed to bitch about it. It’s also funny that people fail to realize that red is the color of a hero in Japan.

Except Daisuke Ishiwatari is only doing the music, he hasn’t touched the characters…and it shows.

I’m not even saying the game looks crap, I just think the characters are weak.

I’m just tired of “Let’s just be happy a new game is coming out.”, as a counter argument to anything negative regarding the game. That actually is childish.

Too be honest, ASW has six more chances to make some genuinely imaginative characters before the roster is filled. I think they will pull it off.

It’s probably a good thing to start out with “two guys with swords” and branch out from there, because those choices are safe. Imagine if ASW tried to make Zappa or Potemkin the poster bitches for GG. Like GG2? Oh yeah, starring Zappa and Pots…yeah that will move units (it didn’t anyway but you get the point). So when it was time to design the franchise they started with: fire sword guy and lightning sword guy, and got crazier from there.

Again, shit will be fine. It’s a NEW 2D ORIGINAL IP (North Star and Devil Kings games are excluded as a result) from the only big company besides Capcom and SNK who is still supporting the genre. They aren’t recycling sprites, and they have moved into 16:9…really stop bitching.
