Regarding returning classic stages, aside from Green Hill, there are a few more from 1, 2, 3 & K that I’d like to see remixed for Mania. Especially some of the later ones from 3 & K which introduced some interesting mechanics (like the fading light in Sandopolis which powered up the ghosts, or the gravity in the Death Egg).
You know no one ever agrees with me on this but a sonic adventure style game can work provided that SEGA tightens up the controls and gets more creative with the level design. I never liked the whole press this button and the game plays itself style of game. That spits in the face of the classic games, which were about control mastery and clever platforming. Hell to be honest after just now finishing Amy’s stages, her character design and hammer jumps and stuff could work in its own game.
Dude, major agrees coming at you from me. Look at my post on the last page.
I want them to use obscure zones for Mania, give me the handhelds, give me Knuckles Chaotix, get really weird with it. Also the original level looks great to me.
I know it was done in Generations, but I’d love to see Chemical Plant remixed in Mania simply because that is one of my favorite stage themes in all of Sonic.
I’m curious to see what the roster of playable characters will be in the project 2017 game. I personally want the sonic advance gang (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Cream). I don’t like classic sonic being here though.
You know a lot of people praise sonic CD but I always found their level layouts really messy and confusing. I have no idea what the hell to do sometimes in those levels.
I think fewer is better. Classic and Modern Sonic only is fine. Maybe a Classic/Modern Tails as well at most. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I like playing as Knuckles more than the rest but I’d rather they just focus on making a solid game. If they actually made character specific stages for every stage I’d be more ok with it, but I doubt that will happen.
I just like gameplay variety. It’s nice to be able to choose between Sonic’s speed, Amy’s acrobatics, Knuckles’ gliding etc. But I can see why some people might prefer less characters.
It’s not “preferring less characters” I just want to be sure that the levels are actually well designed AROUND those character’s abilities. Not every Sonic game actually does this smartly, and I mean, heck, that’s why the Adventure series had completely different stages for every character. But that’s also what was awesome about 3&K, they actually designed areas of every level that only other characters besides Sonic could take.
I’m all for gameplay variety, but they need to provide that along side designing for it instead of just shoe-horning it in. The Sonic Advance games were fun, but they definitely suffered a bit in level design.
I would assume more characters would automatically mean character specific stages. The other 3d Sonic games with multiple playable characters (Adventure, Adventure 2, 06) have done so.
