Had seen the trailer and it looks so dope. glad to see that their going with the classic route on this considering that Christian whitehead is working on this. as a classic sonic fan, I canât wait.
Iâm not even saying gameplay wise, Iâm way too tired to get into that. My opinion on it is in short that Adventure speed stages are much closer representations of the 2D games in 3D than the new âboost a shit tonâ games (which are fun but are kind of a devolution in my eyes).
But how about something aesthetically? At all? A reference? Anything?
The stages of the adventure games were horribly linear. There isnât multiple routes you can take to get through a stage in those games like you can in the 2D games and the later 3D ones. You only really get alternative paths is through the power-ups usually the optional ones.
But you got the precision control, the options, the momentum and it advanced it by including the points system which meant you not only went fast you went fast in style that leveled up with your execution. Youâd create your own routes by using spindashes and bounces, it had a lot more room for player expression.
I like setting and tone, I donât think this is an outright sequel of generations 2 I think its a new stand alone title unless that city was crisis city
At the start of the trailer I thought that was Crisis City. But weâll see. Im pretty hype . SEGA seems to be trying hard in general to get their rep back even outside of Sonic related stuff
Having seen the gameplay it seems this is more sonic CD in its engine/physics than sonic 2 which isnt really a great thing. The game should have been baed on the 3K engine IMO. I absolutely hated CD compared to 123k.
Dont want to sound like a pessimist given weve waited 2 decades for a real classic sonic game, but if its gnna play like CD i might give it a miss.
Sonic CD was one of the weaker Genesis-era games, but the level design in Mania looks sooo much better, so itâs OK.
Someone in one of the Facebook groups said that Sonic Mania is âworse than Sonic '06â because it doesnât have any of the Sonic Adventure characters in it. Iâm done.
This would make sense if you didnât include Sonic 1 in your comparison. Sonic in CD controlled just like he did in Sonic 1. The only thing really bad about CD was the odd spindash.
Yeah Sonic CD was based on Sonic 1 and was even developed in Japan by a lot of the same team who worked on Sonic 1. Sonic 2 was developed in the US by STI (Sega Technical Institute).
