Well, I watched the show. I did get a few laughs in, but ultimately I don’t think that the writing is all that smart. It’s mostly very low-level humor. Which when compared to certain other cartoons that are airing right now or were aired in the recent past, doesn’t really hold a candle to them. Characterization also seems a bit wonky, and the plot of the first episode didn’t make too much sense to me.
I’m not sure what to think about the 3DS demo. Even ignoring that it’s a Sonic game in name only, I wasn’t too impressed by the setup. It was really sluggish, and overall didn’t seem to offer anything unique compared to other platformers.
I enjoyed the Boom prermier alot, I’ll try to keep up with the series, until i ends or get canclled or whatever. It is more silly than what else is currently out, but I think that’s the goal. But I think Sega had a bad plan with Boom. The whole game/cartoon thing is good. But I honestly think they should’ve let the show come out, get it a better slot than 7am, see how it fares, and then make games based off reception. I feel that these games were rushed, which is why the 3ds game feels slugging and unpolished and why the wii u versoin seems the way it does.
I mean just thinking when a show comes out like this it’s usually bam make the show, drop with with a few action figures, then after a while start dropping games and other types of merchandise. They dropping the whole set too fast. So who knows much of a flop this would be. But I know that 7am slot ain’t helping AT ALL
It was HARD AS FUCK getting up at 7am. WIth or without the hangover I had, this slot is not very forgiving. My little brother helped get me up or else I never would have been able to.
All that said, I actually enjoyed the premier but goddamn did they feel like they ended too fast. I had a couple of genuine lols and it kept me smiling. I prefer 1 story in 30 mins then 2 shorts but it does remind me of the glory days of Cartoon Network with Dexters Lab etc comprised of shorts–and I loved them. It’ll just take some adjusting
What’s with the animation in the cartoon? The bodies are constantly moving around to over exaggerate their emotions, but after said emote has been displayed, they are stiff as a board making it look completely awkward. This keeps throwing me off, since most 3D animations like this, when you catch them being stiff it usually results in transaction going to the next scene. But instead, they just remain stiff like if they’re waiting for something to happen.
Sure it makes sense when their stiff, do an action quick, go and on from there, that’s part of the animation gag. But I’m talking about when they are idle. Like, what, do they not breathe? Is oxygen not a think in that area? I guess they’re going for a “2D” feel, but they fail to capture that in their animation. WTF?
I watched the first ep of the show and got some good chuckles out of it (IT’LL MAKE ME HAM!..EVIL HAM…). I was pretty entertained despite the absurdity going on in both halves of the show. I’ll definitely be keeping up with it but I’m in agreement that Sega needs to find some way to convince CN to move it to a better time slot to give it a better chance.
As for the Sonic Boom games…SMH. I was willing to give BRB the benefit of the doubt considering some of the devs that are within their ranks but I had already expressed concern about how the game seemed janky the last time we saw it and it really needed to be smoothed out…I even felt it needed to be pushed back. Now we’re seeing the fruits of their labor and it looks a bit undercooked. Sorry I can’t support this…I’m not giving either of these games money especially because I felt they could have been better and SHOULD have been better. This game will probably end up flopping hard and the money that was put into will unlikely be recovered. Sega’s financials for the next Q are gonna be asscheeks. Guilty Gear and Persona Q aren’t gonna be able to cover this loss…I’m pretty sure of it.
Consequences of this will probably be less experimentation in the franchise for at least a few years until they get more confident. Looking forward to seeing what Sonic Team is up too.
Nintendo really kinda got bopped on this 3 sonic game deal. They got Lost World which is arguably solid and then everything else was either ranging from meh to not so great. I wonder if Sega is realizing that they have a good chance of ruining the majority of their most cash flow for this franchise.
Man yea Nintendo got dicked on this deal…after coming off Colors and Generations I expected more from Sega for Sonic (I know this one isn’t by the team). Ah well.
Sonic 2006 is no longer the worst sonic game out there, i caught heartburn watching a LP for boom, when cobermani says he doesn’t even want to do one that’s bad
the show is actually pretty good, some adult references here and there especially to older cartoons like acme plane gag and droopy the dog, and amy getting a new personality; sadly I dont see this lasting long
Wow, Sonic Boom is THAT bad? What is that, Sonic jumping out of the actually game? Thing is so awful the main character has to get outta Dodge? Dang. Guess this’ll give Sonic '06 a break from all those burns. The fandom and critics are gonna eat this game alive.
As for the cartoon? I watched episode 1 and 2 online. No wonder I didn’t catch the premier. It was on at 7 AM. That’s a doomed timeslot if I ever saw one. So many fans are butthurt when it was established early on that this was a different series from the main Sonic thing. I got some laughs out of it. Amy is still annoying to me, though.
I mean, at least 06 had Crisis City. Horrendous game with one small bright spot. If Boom doesn’t even have that…yeesh. At least the blood isn’t on Sonic Team’s hands.
