Yes, it’s just not easy.

Just cleared the game on a solo Sonic file. This game is such a huge breath of fresh air and reminds me of what it was like playing the original games for the first time growing up and getting my ass handed to me due to it being fresh and unfamiliar. Even though the game is loaded with classic zones they are for the most part identical in name and aesthetics only. Chemical plant zone act 2 could have been named something completely different for example. It went beyond being a remixed level and was something completely new altogether. The new zones are nothing short of amazing. And you can see all the years of passion and creativity that the development team had from their rom hacking days. Once the credits were rolling I felt happy for the series and happy for the people who came such a long way to finally make this game. If you haven’t bought this game yet, do it now!!

havnt died to time over at all, but I have had some stages get to the 7-8 min mark a couple of times. They are deff longer than old school levels sans that second level in the desert in sonic and knuckles.

As for UFO I havnt beaten them all of only got 5 chaos emeralds… Its…deceptively unfun like ive felt about most the game really. I get the idea and watching it is way better than playing it. I didnt realize how janky it controlled. As for if you can catch it on mach 2 ya I think you can I got a couple of them while doing jack shit and not even trying to get rings or go faster… I just… somehow got it… I guess I went the right path who knows… And then ive had others where I feel like there must be a set sorta “idea” or path you are supposed to take to beat them and ive failed miserably… countless…countless times while feeling like I was trying to play it “skillfully” lol. So ya ill assume theres probably a set direct path you are supposed to take, cuz sometimes ive got a couple just scrubbing it out and doing nothing where as when I tried I kept failing miserably.

Wtf, how is it janky? It controls fine

The path you’re supposed to take is the shortest one, same with any type of race

I’m slowly becoming convinced Dialup doesn’t like games anymore. He seems to hate everything he plays. Just how it seems to me. He’s gonna hate DBFZ, can already tell.

I don’t hate every game i play, I just dont get excited for everything ive played or think its amazing. Ive played a lot of games through out my life so im hard to please. As for DBFZ actually most thing im worried about is that its gonna be to easy to make combo videos for. Same reason about marvel infinite etc. I need to be like mentally stimulated, I only play games for a bit here and there so its hard to keep my attention I got to many other things going on.

I’ll admit I got a few time overs on my first play through (which is now complete) but I think I was too busy looking for emerald stage rings

I am very interested in seeing Mania speedruns in the future now.

Just sounds like you’re jaded. I’ve been playing games for years too, I also am hard to please, and I don’t think everything is amazing, but I still find plenty I like. Well, I guess “plenty” is relative because compared to all the games that are released, what I actually like is a really small number.

Either that or your tastes have changed or something because I feel like there’s avenues to enjoy games of basically any genre including more classic ones

This game is so dope. I need to 100% with all the characters now.

See, people say this, but a simple ass game like Sonic Mania is setting the world on fire.

Take a gameplay concept, polish the fuck out of it, and let the gameplay do the talking, not a bunch of cutscenes and set pieces.

People aren’t that hard to please, game publishers just forgot how to please them.

Except it seems this games is rather buggy

I actually don’t know which part of what I said you’re saying that in response to

Oh no I will agree with that I am a little jaded and bitter no doubt. But playing it reinforced that. Im not saying the game sucks, but playing it, I never felt like it had any of those moments I talked about before. S3K remember seeing the death egg in lava reef, it slowly rising in the sky in hidden palace zone, you seeing the mural on the wall, then going to sky palace zone it setting off into the sky. The game told a silent story amazing well, and it was quite charming. Knuckles last boss with metal sonic turning(and again im not horny about sonic CD, I feel its more novelty and neat than a good game per say)again robotnik, him using the hyper emerald and as he uses it eventually more and more if you take to long angel island will completely fall and crash and you get a game over. That sorta stuff was really cool to me, and I still remember it to this day. But this game just has again novelty stuff to me, thats kinda fun for 5 seconds. Like oh mean bean machine… thats… neat… Next… oh bean throwing little bombs at me as a mini boss… neat but novelty wears off quickly.

Like when I look back at this game, the same way I look back on S3K(again if I even live that long who knows), what will I remember from it? I wont remember anything new, ill remember the same thing I already remember from when I played S2, chemical plant zone is awesome, it has cool music too, flying battery zone is awesome… but… I already knew that. Ill remember that sonic is fun when I was younger. So its like a nostalgic trip, but it doesnt add anything new to the series. The stages arent that amazing to me, most the new bosses are ho-hum. I mean again is there any boss makes me remember knuckles last boss, with that silent story of metal sonic turning on robotnik? No boss did that for me here. Theres a lot of novelty bosses that make you remember when sonic was fun… Does that make sense?

Personally grips as well, i know not everyone agrees, I dont care about sonics 2 sprites, I like 3. Some people dont like hyper sonic, you know what I think hes awesome, he also is in the lure of the story with the master emeralds so as a kid the story makes him make sense even if he is slightly redundant and just flashing different colors. But you know what, to me thats still neat, and goes just that extra step.

And of course no one will ever convince me other wise the juice is not worth the squeeze in this game. The amount of blue spheres you have to do, for what you get, is ridiculous and obnoxious its not enough…

I mean I dunno if anyone has ever played any of the fan games, and hell honestly maybe even the creators of this game made some of them. But has anyone played the one fan game where the first level takes place supposedly sorta takes place in like a ghetto sky sanctuary and you see the death egg or was it the last boss of sonic 2(its been awhile), but you see it falling down in the background as you run through the stage, and eventually you run down the tower, and then the second area you run down to the forest and theres lighting in the background. I mean its a fan game, but its a new level, and thats a pretty neat level to me and cool. And all these new levels in this game, were just again, I dont remember anything about them specifically as awesome or standing out. Just a means to a an end.

I definitely had moments like that personally, and even IN the new stages. I agree that the story aspect was a little lacking. I was glad it was there and the first half or so was great with the mini cutscenes but later on they like, stopped doing them consistently, and the last 1/3rd or so had almost none for some reason which was kinda a bummer. Where we disagree is this game just being full of novelty. I can agree on the mean bean machine thing in the sense that it’s not really much of a challenge even if you’ve never played puyo puyo, you can figure it out fairly quick, but I do think it actually fits pretty well for the theme of Chemical Plant and does actaully reference a past sonic-ish game.

Most of Chemical Plant was completely new though. And the most interesting stuff in the second act was all new, same with Flying Battery. All the coolest parts of it was all the brand new stuff. Those second acts share map tiles basically but the actual gameplay in them was really different and could have easily been news stages if the art was changed. Like, they are awesome again, yes, but for different reasons.

What? It adds plenty new, like 80% of the game at least remixed and at least 70% of it is brand new with the only hold overs being graphical in some cases.

If most of the new bosses are ho-hum, then the original ones must be forgetable to you, right? You know, the bosses you could defeat because they even got a single attack off, even on your second or third playthrough? The ONLY bosses I really remember and love from the old games are Mecha Sonic and the giant Eggman robot from S3&K. I would say that no boss surpasses that robot boss, but there are plenty that come close and they’re all at least INTERESTING. I agree the best stuff for me is probably still from S3&K, but all the second best stuff is from Mania, and most of S3&K is worse than Mania IMO.

I agree with you here, I always thought 3 was the best look, and I still feel that way. Unfortunately I think there’s no chance of it coming back cause it seems like they want to keep the “classic” and “modern” sonic looks as different as possible and that means the older style sprite. Though I imagine they probably just prefer that look anyway. Hyper Sonic I’m neutral on.

That is just one aspect of it, and if you don’t want to do bonus stages, then just don’t do em. Or heck just do the minimum for whatever you want unlocked, or don’t. At least the bonus stages actually DO unlock something in this game since in S3&K their only use was 1-ups and powerups and they were not interesting either. In any case bonus stages are always just extra stuff.

I don’t know how Press Garden and Mirage Saloon aren’t memorable to you, but that’s just a taste or maybe even mindset issue.

I’m not trying to convince you to like it or anything, but some(not saying all) of your issues are definitely just viewpoint differences.

Just had a weird glitch where I could make the bgm stop playing if I killed an enemy, hit a sign post, or hit a monitor.

Speaking of bgm though. Finally got all the chaos emeralds and super sonics theme is fucking fire.

The only thing that bugged me was having two very "This is The Last Level"ish zones back to back, kind of took away from the impact of the actual last level a bit.

The last time I really enjoyed a sonic game was sonic 2. I had no interest in the series after that really outside of the first adventure game which was kinda fun for it’s time.

This game is really fun though. Playing it with my son is reminiscent of the old sonic 2 coop.

You didnt like Sonic 3 ?? wtf

I was referring to the jaded part. A lot of people call me jaded and bitter because I have high standards and refuse to lower them to match up to “modern game design”, aka lazy ass DLC schemes.

I’m actually very easy to please… Just make something simple to grasp, hard to master, with good music and fun gameplay, with some passion and heart in it, and I’m golden.

It doesn’t cost billions of dollars to entertain people.

Then play fucking Dark Souls bro.
