Blaze in Sonic 06 really was just an unsolvable plot hole regarding to her just being there. Her bio claimed that she was a princess from another dimension and protector of the sol emeralds, so it’s safe to say that Blaze in Sonic 06 IS the Blaze we all know from Sonic Rush.
The problem with believing that though is by theory this creates some paradox which can only be explained by two different Blazes (one from the future, and one from an entirely different dimension). If Sonic 06 never happened, then “Future Blaze” would still be alive. Nobody is exactly sure where the fuck this Blaze came from, which complicates the whole dimensional rift argument.
Blaze sealed herself away in an alternate timeline. She was originally from the future and I’m going to assume that when Elise reset the timeline, it inadvertently got retconned so that she was always from that dimension, which would mean that Sonic '06 takes place before the Sonic Rush games.
It’s stupid either way though, screw Sonic '06 and the guy who rolled up to the office drunk one night and decided to pitch the idea for Sonic '06’s story to begin with.
Visiting the Sonic community in Gaf and I found this video that they were talking about interesting
Green Hill Paradise - Act 2 Release Trailer
So…supposedly this took these guys about 10 months to make after doing research on what makes sonic work in momentum based 2D platforming and trying to make it work in open world 3D. I thought that this was gonna be meh but after watching it…kinda made me stroke my beard a bit. It’s not 100% but I feel it’s got something. There’s a download in the description of the video if you want to mess around with it yourself.
Also the cover for Sonic #289 got done by Spaz
I haven’t picked up my comics for this month yet so I’m unsure if they’re doing a background story focusing on Sonic 2 or not…be kinda cool if they were. The Unleashed story arc is near done.
Edit: hmmm from what I’m reading that is what seems to be going on right now. 288 was a background story on the first game it seems. Gonna have to pick up my stuff after I get paid.
That little fan demo is cool, but it kind of exemplifies why Sega never tries that kind of game, look how damn hard it would be to structure a game around that kind of set up, Sonics able to slingshot himself over like half the map
Not saying it couldn’t be done, just that I see the enherent difficulties in trying.
I remember playing the first version of that fan game several years ago. They just had an open world made up in different geographical parts that you could run around and find chaos emeralds in. Glad to see that they’re still working on it. It’s made in unreal, right?
I downloaded the demo and played it for a bit. I’m not a fan of the design. I hate they didn’t make spin dash it’s own button. I can get that you going for the old school way for spin dashing but having to press two buttons to do one is annoying. How big the level was made it easy for me to get lost.
Sonic Lost World had the most solid foundation for playing Sonic in 3D. It finally felt like Sonic Team really had a good foothold on what future Sonic titles should aspire to be.
I mean they actually gave Sonic the ability to hang on and move on platform corners. They gave him a run button and a way to seamlessly traverse walls and obstacles without completely loosing control.
It wasn’t perfect, but it there’s plenty of potential in that approach. I hope the next 3D Sonic game is a refinement of what Lost World did right.
This probably isn’t true, cause these guys have been porting those Genesis games for a while now so they probably know how it’s supposed to feel, and I’m pretty sure we already know that the physics work just like them too.
I mean, maybe you’re right, but I doubt it
Edit: Watching Polygon play ANYTHING is fucking EXCRUCIATING.
I like how they are incorporating some of the Sonic CD sprites, the up-dash was meant to give you a greater boost of speed than the down dash (spin dash), however the spin dash was much safer to use.
The Polygon vid from what I understand is supposed to be a slower run on the stages to look at them since they weren’t being rushed. There’s plenty of vids out there of people blasting through the stages and running through them correctly.
The game is just as fast as 3K at least and it’s been demonstrated before in other vids. The one thing I’m not seeing anyone so far attempt to get good with is the drop dash since that could potentially make running through courses flow better. The guy playing in the Polygon vid activated it a few times but he never used it fully (can hear sonic rev up a few times in mid jump but then he never actually does the dash)
