More images-
Stages look nice from those images, still wanna see them in motion though.
Chun-nan / Dragon road.
tbh, unleashed and colors had some of the more interesting looking levels that, though not the most “original”, weren’t direct rips of previous levels. It’s disheartening that those games provided something fairly new and yet a game with the name “Sonic 4” won’t.
Yeah I’m liking that snow stage. A bit more christmas than usual but that’s something the games haven’t gone that far into before so whatever. Looking at the screenshots though I’m wondering if the snow level and the carnival themed level are one in the same or if they just put bits of the carnival themed stage in the background. I actually hope it’s the latter…that’d be a cool thing for the game that you can kinda see what the next zone will be in the background throughout the acts as you get closer to it. That would almost kind of be a nod to the zone transitions from 3k.
Those are some pretty crisp screenshots. I’m hoping we won’t have to wait till ep. 3 to see Knuckles but I doubt it.
Also, Papaya 23384872 appeared.
I vote a inglewood zone as a ghetto level would be to good…
I can imagine omochao saying this:
“Sonic you need to speed through here as quickly as possible unless you want a cap busted in your ass”
The rehashed stages thing isn’t really cool. None of the stages in the original Sonic 4 were memorable at all.
I’d rather they actually try to come up with some locales that feel different from other zones in Sonic games. They don’t have to be 100% unique, but “they’ve already done almost everything” shouldn’t be an excuse to design nothing but zones that copy all of your old games’ zones verbatim but with a new mechanic or two.
I mean, Sonic Generations threw new spins on the old zones and turned out something more unique AND interesting than the original zone was in a lot of cases. Sonic 4 doesn’t do that and now that it’s thunder was stolen…why bother? Just do something different.
The new screens are looking sharp. I’m hoping that this one has more zones than episode 1.
No one really knows the extent of what these zones will play or look like (at least until Feb 23rd, when game footage will be released on Gamespot), especially considering the new moves Sonic and Tails have up their sleeve.
Keep in mind since Colors, Sonic Team has been doing pretty well (from the exception of Sonic Free Riders) as far as progressing positively through finally listening to their consumers. Though even I myself am still skeptical, there seems to be room for optimism.
Hooray, another Sonic Team game to play at Christmastime. =D
I’m not expecting much, tbh. I like the team that did Colors and Generations because those games were solid and amazing, but isn’t this DIMPS and not that team?
Sonic Team proper produces trash. To have even a chance of being amazing it has to be another team.
I really hope the stages are more unique than the ones in episode 1. I don’t care when they throw back to old games; they’ve been doing that since 3&K at least. I didn’t like how episode 1’s levels looked like they were copy/pasted from Sonic 1&2. Mad Gear felt like Metropolis Zone without the Metropolis Zone theme, which just made me feel hollow and empty inside. From the screenshots, I think the stages are going to stand on their own a little bit more this time, even if there are some similarities.
so this the NEW sonic timeline? (zelda…teehee)
Sonic 1
Sonic 2
Sonic 4 Ep 1
Sonic 4 Ep 2
Sonic CD
Sonic 3
Sonic 3 and K
Sonic and K
Sonic 3d blast?
Sonic 4 still takes place after 3k. They do a whole synopsis of of the genesis games on the website under the intro link. Sega has just been like ‘weeeellll we never really specified where Sonic CD takes place in the timeline sooooooo…blindfolds self and throws dart on Sonic Timeline board that’ll do!’. I felt that Sonic CD had taken place either before or after 2 but according to the launch trailer for Sonic CD it takes place before 4.
Something slightly entertaining

This apparently happens when you hold the left and right arrows on the pc version.
I thought it was generally accepted that Sonic CD took place after Sonic 1 but before 2. Since CD used Sonic sprite from the first game and having secret art of Tails with “see you next game” message on it.
Not to mention 3 picks up exactly where 2 left off.
I was goin to say there was a small period where Sonic CD could have but I had to read Sonic 3’s manual again and there was but it still wouldn’t have been feasible. So it definitely should have taken place between 1 and 2. Oh well to that then…
Ah. You realize that Sonic Team just tells Dimps what to do, right? It’s not like the handheld titles were ever consistently bad.
Meanwhile, in Japan.
