Not surprised at all that Ep.2 looks the way it does. If it’s good, hopefully it shows up on a console that I own.
It’s a lot better than what they gave us in Episode 1, though. Aquatic Ruins looks similar, but now we have a roller-coaster level and what looks like an oil field level that appears to only be roughly based on Carnival Night and Oil Ocean, respectively.
I wonder how the music will be this time…
because of furry yiff 69 spin attack?
Yes.
SEGA gives the fans what exactly they’ve been asking for: More fuel for the shipping fire. Amirite? =D
Well, the stages ARE new, but use old motifs. Though Splash Hill zone LOOKED like Green Hill & Emerald Hill, the stage itself was completely different. If Splash Hill Zone was exactly the same, but had a beach motif & was called Bright Beach Zone, would anyone say anything?
On the other hand, I understand what everyone’s been saying since Ep.1’s release. If this takes place after Sonic 3, why’s Eggman using old machines? Why do all the stages look like old stages? They’re relying on nostalgia way too much, especially with Ep.1’s & Generations’ releases. Personally, I don’t mind that much, especially since it’s Sonic the Hedgehog. Who cares about the story? Eggman’s bad. Stop him. Roll credits. Turn on the game, pick up the controller, put your brain on cruise control & enjoy the ride. There’s no need to over-analyze everything.
I’ve been really pleased with Sonic Team’s efforts as of late. Generations was my favorite game of 2011 & I’m really excited for Episode II. Fix the physics & I’m a happy man.
We’re talking about Sonic fans, are we not?
They did that years ago. It was called Palmtree Panic
Examining the screenshots now…damn this game looks like so much more effort has been put into it graphically incomparison to Ep.2. The work done on the foregrounds and backgrounds look far more inspired. Looking at the still shots of Sonic’s run it looks better. The feet blur aren’t nearly as fat and flat as in Ep 1 and I can actually see him leaning forward into the run. It looks like a weird mashup of classic run and modern run. I want to see it in motion though. Something else I’m noticing is this Planetoid thing that’s in the background of 2 of the screenshots.

I thought it was the Death Egg at first glance but it’s not. Looks like some planet that’s having construction built over it. The fact that it appears in 2 separate zones in the background is interesting to me…
It could be Little Planet. This is supposed to tie in with Sonic CD, after all.
Oh wow… I think you’re right, actually.
Not only that, but in the second screenshot, I can make out a sort of metal Eggman moustache, so it could be that Eggman is building a new Death Egg around Little Planet. That’d be awesome.
lol Why’s that so surprising?
^Because I played quite a few better games in 2011 and if we were strictly talking about platformers a certain limbless hero blew Sonic out of the water.
Oh… Well to be honest, I didn’t play that many titles last year. I don’t have a Wii anymore & my PS3 YLOD’ed last spring, so the only new games I bought were Marvel 3 (& Ultimate), MK9, MGS HD Collection & Generations. Out of those, I enjoyed Generations the most. Everything else I bought was retro.
Are we talking “eggmanland” coaster or “Asteroid coaster” coaster (or any other coasters I left out)? Either way, the sheer lack of even an attempt at an original stage concept is infuriating.
GO OUT AND BUY RAYMAN ORIGINS! I’ll wait…
Uh, it looks to me that the entire stage is a roller-coaster, unlike Eggmanland and Asteroid Coaster.
And to be fair, Sonic has basically covered every trope in the book when it comes to level themes. If they “remix” existing tropes then I’m OK with that. I mean, that roller-coaster level seems to be holiday-themed, which is kind of neat.
We need Sonic Spinball inspired levels.
What we NEED is Sonic Adventure 3.
