I have to be the only Sonic fanw ho thinks Sonic Adventure 2 is ok at best.

You’re not. There’s plenty who think all the Sonic games past 3 & Knuckles are either average at best or just terrible. Sonic fans are the most divisive in the entire gaming world.

Well I don’t think it’s bad game or anything, I just don’t think it’s worth soiling my underoos over.

There’s not a single Sonic game in existence that’s worth that.

Sonic 2 is. That game is perfect.

I still can’t believe Sonic isn’t in Project X Zone. That’s like, making a Smash Bros. game without Mario in it.

No game is perfect, nor will ever be close. Its appeal, as with all others, will eventually fade, wither, and die.

over 20 years later and it’s still named one of the best series. So no. Things worth remembering are remembered. They are only forgotten when we choose to forget them.

And yea, Sonic 2 is perfect. This idea that perfection means “appeals to everyone” is stupid. Sonic 2 do does everything it sets out to do in the best manor it could be done. The mechanics work correctly, the level design is brilliant, and the bonus levels serve a purpose while being fun and engaging.

I know I’m arguing semantics here, but as someone who doesn’t tier stuff, Sonic 2 easily makes my Desert Island list.

When people refer to Sonic being the “best” series, they’re lying. It’s one of the most well known, but not one of the best. For some, only two games even exist in the series (2 and 3&K). At the most lenient, you could maybe add some of the Advances and Rush, but most who refer to the Sonic series don’t even know said games exist. There’s 3 times more shit in the Sonic series than there is gold, and after a while it completely ruins the reputation of the series, and it has. Even after the efforts of Colors and Generations, you’ll still find more people who mention Sonic with an air of disdain than of respect.

As for Sonic 2 being perfect, I still disagree. Perfection is the last thing any one thing should strive to achieve, as with perfection, there is no longer any drive to become better, to surpass your limits. By saying Sonic 2 is perfect, you’re indirectly stating the rest of the series was an absolute waste of time, at least in the 2D realm. In a way, to say Sonic 2 was perfect is as much of a compliment as it is an insult in this specific case. On top of that, for many a game, the flaws within present the best of what a game has to offer and can endear it to many.

To be blunt, perfection is boring and worthless.

Maybe he hates 06 so much instead of rebooting the franchise, we’ll just knock games Sega doesn’t like out of the canon.

Nope. That game is super mediocre. Even if they fixed the radar to SA1, it’s still average. SA2 was probably a lot of people’s first, though… and if it was my first Sonic game (provided I’d also be younger and more inexperienced to gaming in general) I’d probably think it was the best, too. It has enough going for it to appeal to kids who like colorful characters with slightly edgy storylines. I WILL say that SA2 has one of the best OSTs in the series.

Sonic 2, perfect? Perfection is in the eye of the beholder and Sonic 2 doesn’t meet my vision of perfect. There are parts of the the classics that I see as perfect (won’t dare list them) but anyone can feel this way about any Sonic game, more or less.

I agree…sonic adventure 2 had its time to shine and it hasnt aged well…music is one thing that can hold up for a long time

unless it was a complete remake or you could race your chao online I have no reason to buy it…even now that ive been there when I was a teen I had my experience…generations was a solid reminder of the good times I had growing up as a fan…

Of course you disagree. I wasn’t looking for you to agree with me. I am not stating anything is a waste of time either, your putting words in my mouth. I play lots of stuff I don’t think is perfect because I i know games are meant to pass the time and have fun and all i ask of a game is to be fun. Don;t read into things that aren’t being said.

I think the whole adventure concept is pretty much outdated, but it seems most people feel SA1 aged worse than SA2. I played SA1 lately on XBLA when it went on sale and I can’t even enjoy it because it gives me headaches when I play it. I don’t know why. Maybe I need to put it on another TV. Anyway, it’s just a chip off the old block to SA2’s wooden foundation.

Sonic 3 & knuckles was much better than 2 imo. It improved upon Sonic 2 in many aspects and overall has more content.

I don’t like the level design in 3 or Knux that much and needing both carts for the whole experience is souring. Both games are home to some of my least favorite zones. Carnival Night had me stuck for years due to those spinners you need to bob up and down, and Sandopolis can eat a dick. I also don’t like the special stages. Super boring to me after Sonic 2s really fun half pipes.

Still love that game when it’s locked like it’s supposed to be.

^^^ Pretty much my feelings on sonic 3.

Also the music in sonic 3 was reeeeeeaaaallllly hit or miss. I’m not sure why Ice cap zone’s music gets so much praise and Carnival Night zone can go to hell.

Ice cap zone was the first winter based level just like alot of levels where unique in 3 as compared to 2…I didnt have trouble on the barrels in carnival night when I was a kid…shrugs sega carts where expensive back then so I think Sonic 3 and knuckles was the first DLC…lol

I just wanted a True Sonic Adevnture 3 meaning it had to have Sonic Adventure 3 in its title…IF it ever does happen my son will have the pleasure of playing it…haha

Heh I really like Ice Cap but in general feel Sonic 2’s OST is much stronger, more memorable to me. Still, Sonic 3 has stuff like Hydrocity Zone so it’s still really strong.

Zelda fans would dispute that…

Edit:

I’m kinda surprised they haven’t announced sonic in this game either but I think of it this way…If they did announce him in it…I’d be more upset about the slim chance of it coming over here.

Oh no I have nothing against Ice cap zone as a level. It was really fun and probably one of the better designed stages in the game. The music however was pretty bland but everyone seems to love it. Carnival Night and Launch Base both had that annoying pause in their songs. Sandopolis was just very boring.

Hydrocity zone, Flying battery zone, Lava Reef zone however were the shit and the boss themes in that game were also pretty strong. But yeah much weaker then sonic 2’s ost imo.
