I thought the Simpsons premiere (w/Krusty etc) was pretty good. It’s not an all-timer, but that’s too much to ask at this point. As someone who hasn’t been a regular watcher for a real long time, it was better than I was expecting.

I figured Shearer would tap out soon. He was having physical trouble doing some of the voices recently. It’s one of the reasons you didn’t see characters like Mr Burns as often anymore.

Shearer did a chunk of them, but so did Castellaneta and Azaria (who do the more important ones). The core family is still doing the show, so you would just see less of Kent Brockman, Skinner, Mr Burns, and a few other’s. Whenever those characters would be required for roles, it would like be small roles, and they can easily find somebody who sounds like Shearer’s characters to read lines.
I bet they’d hire multiple people to do the different characters.

It’s not the voice being copied as a problem. It’s with how those characters all were different people and had idioms. The way schearer carried a smithers scene vs a skinner scene.
Can you name some episodes worth checking out. I stopped after that season with the Mapple Store.
