The Shinobi Secrets: Ibuki Video Thread

Ah Spacing! Yeah, I’m hopeless at that =] I will try to be more conscious about it and improve my game. I guess that’s the next step!

This isn’t the critique thread but I figure since lax already commented:

What the heck is JSF? Jump Stop Fierce?

If the match is laggy, why bother uploading it, and why bother playing it anyways. This Fei gets away with chicken wing spam like no other. I can’t tell if it’s due to lag or bad reactions but CW needs to be stuffed at every attempt possible. Otherwise a better Fei would actually combo his rekka after it instead of getting reversaled in the face like in these matches. And if the Fei’s execution is up to par: CW , st.HP xx rekka really hurts. Basically 2-3 of these and you’ll already be near death.

Speaking of which, your gameplay is still 100% vortex for offense and mash EX kazegiri when you get pressured. You seriously do need to stray away from mindless mashing and actually think about what’s going on. These opponents might not know how to punish EX kazegiri, but it won’t exactly foster good habits if you keep at it.

You also showed very little patience if any in your gameplay. See the Fei matches for example. One round you start off with with a neckbreaker, another round you start with hk.cd. And then in one of the rounds, everything goes crazy as Fei jumps every 5 seconds or spams chicken wing, flying over your slide/neckbreaker and basically both of you switch positions numerous times.

Thanks mingo,

The reason i didn’t vortex against blanka is because when he has meter he can just ex up ball and it’ll beat a meaty kunai. Other than that i did notice him mashing on wakeup alot just gotta work on my timing.

vs cody - never really fought good cody’s until this one so i was surprised to see his rushdown so good. I do know that his defense basically sucks so starting offense is crucial. I think he may be able to option select his sliding move special from backdashes tho i’m not sure either what he can do after backdashes.

Good tips!

Aside form all this, like you said i need to implement better anti air punishment.

If you master your vortex timing, you can vortex and make the EX up ball whiff. Easiest timing is if the kunai isn’t a crossup, so his EX up ball won’t autocorrect.

JSF = Jab, Straight, and Fierce? Anyway, my point was to show that there wasn’t much lag. I wasn’t complain about it =/
I don’t play against a lot of Fei Long players so I don’t know what punish there is other than Focus (at a particular range). Isn’t he +2 on block?

I agree that I’m not patient enough. It’s just that it works so much when players are dropping combos all over the place, that it’s unfortunately getting the better of me. Besides using Hien after a block string, and working on my normals, is there anything else that I could drastically improve on?

Though, by the Neckbreaker at the beginning of the round, do you mean the one after he jumped? I thought that was an okay attack, it worked right?

Yeah.As i’ve already said in other posts ibuki is not meant to be played like akuma.I mean her vortex is good and can be very ambiguous at times but akuma’s vortex options are unrivaled.Ibuki’s mixups are really good.Try to learn cl sthk>sjc cd>crhp>sjc cd(or just jump or superjump after that for more ambiguous mixups). Then you can do for example tc4>nb>vortex lp kunai and cut it with the above mixups.Cl sthk>sjc cd>crhp does 400 stun more than tc4 nb and with the nerfs that nb recieved in AE this mixup becomes more viable. You can also do it from her bnbs >kazegiri fadc>above mixups. Also learn to sjc cd from her launcher combos. In general try to break you vortex with sjc mixups and some times safejumps.
In your corner game and when you have 2 bars of super meter after ex tsumuji, try to kazegiri fadc>crhp>sjc kunai,or sjc dash or jlk.mk, jhp, jhk(depending on characters hitboxes). Also after bnb> ex tsumuji> kazegiri in the corner, hk cd for ambiguous mixup.
Learn to anti air.Dont just do b+mp.Try to dash cancel into kazegiri, raida, sthk>jc>super, sthk>sjc dash>crhp>sjc dash or superjump for crossup or jump for non crossup.Imo ibuki’s anti air game can be even scarier than ryu’s.
With the above stuff i mentioned your game will become better and more interesting.

My execution is getting a little rusty since I haven’t been practicing much with her, but I decided to break her out for a little bit.

Why tsumuji knockdowns instead of neckbreaker? Too bad that Guile doesn’t know that lk.tsumuji is punishable on block.

Personally I like the tsum finisher better off of a jab hit confirm because it gives roughly the same knockdown and damage, but if you botch the combo you can’t get punished hard for it. Also I am messing around with some mix up potential with it. Though the Neckbreaker does have a stun advantage.

-4 is a rather hard punish at that range. Guile doesn’t have anything that has the range and the speed apart from maybe a flash kick, but do you want to bet the farm on a one frame punish?

It’s not really “betting the farm” or taking any chances. It’s a special and you know how lenient the reversal timing window is in this game.

It’s more like taking the chance that your Guile opponent doesn’t have much Ibuki practice (or matchup knowledge vs Ibuki).

It is in the same class of things as Fei’s Rekkas. All of Fei’s Rekka pressure is -3 or worse on block, but they are such a pain because if they are well spaced there is no safe way of punishing for most characters because Fei is out of range. Like I said -4 from that distance is not an easy punish for Guile if it is even possible for that matter. If he lands it then I get hit by a flash kick, but if he misses it then it is a free combo into knockdown (or ultra). The risk vs reward for Guile isn’t really there. I would imagine someone like Vega might be able to abuse that more since for him it is just throwing out a c.MP and see if it hits.

Edit: Just went into training mode as Guile and tried to punish it with every 4 frame or less move he had. Only thing that even remotely worked was a flash kick, but at tip range I couldn’t get it to connect and you can’t FADC which makes me believe Ibuki is out of range for the first active frame. So against guile this should be safe if spaced well.

So it seems any guile player attempting to punish it is an idiot or has an insanely good eye for spacing. Either way it is a really risky punish unless the spacing was terrible because there is no way to make a bad punish safe.

By spacing do you mean lk.tsumuji used as a poke or (blocked) TC4 xx lk.tsumuji? I’ve never tested it at poke range (outside cr.HK range) but as a blockstring after TC4, I’m fairly certain it should work 100% of the time if you reversal flash kick. All it should take is realizing that it’s lk.tsumuji and not mk or hk.tsumuji.

Well for me I was using my set up for it. f.LK into lk tsum. Any other LK tsum in the video should have been a plink accident on my part in the video. If you are close enough you can flash kick punish it so s.MK set ups are out of the question.

here some videos of me from a couple days ago, i know i missed some NBs on the rose match, and my bad froms some execution mistakes, playing on a bed and my bros tv since my monitor broke :open_mouth:

I apologize for the quality, but you should still be able to tell whats going on.
Though I won this rather convincingly there were a few mistakes that were glaringly obvious to me, such as the dropped combos, and execution errors(mainly when trying to super) are the more obvious ones. I am hoping oyu guys can point out the less obvious ones to me.

I wish I could help but I can’t figure out wtf is going on due to terrible quality (and crappy stage).

any good ibukis want to get better, add me on PSN and you will get ur ass kicked and learn

xxlopsidedxx

Not sure if anybody cares about SSF4 anymore now that MvC3 is here, but I found some random Ibuki play on TS’s Beat by Contest stream.

1:02:20 is when the Ibuki action starts

Edit: wrong link sorry. Replaced the link with the new one.
