The Shinobi Secrets: Ibuki Video Thread

This match up is my specialty.

Ok first things first. I saw you let JR get away with murder. Anti-air those demon flips at all cost! If you let an Akuma player get free demon flips on you then you will lose every time because it is quick and easy offense. b+MP beats all flip options clean if you time it well. Another option if you have trouble timing is just to dash forward (Either command or regular). Train yourself to react to that. The worst thing you can do against flips is to stand there and do nothing. You are free like that.

At 2:39 in the first video you had a chance to punish a whiffed U2 and botched the punish. You can’t miss opportunities like that.

Lastly you didn’t punish the teleport at all. If you want to pressure an akuma player you have to do that. If you can punish the teleport you will find that your vortex is 20 times more effective.

I can see you also had troubles against JR’s antics, don’t worry you can only learn those by playing him often. He does a lot of things that Akuma mains frown upon (Just mention his name in the Akuma forums and watch the flame wars lol)

Overall you were playing scared IMO. You didn’t pressure when you had the advantage many times and even when you did you let him out of it too easily. An when you were playing defensive you allowed yourself to get caught by gimmicks. There were other problems in that video, but if you can’t work out the ones I already listed you won’t be able to work on the other problems.

My tips, learn to anti-air, work on your pressure game, and if you play JR again you need to learn his gimmicks. Trust me when I say playing JR takes a little bit of work. Here were the first two matches I played against him

The top one was my very first match against him and as you can see it took me a round to get use to him even though I generally knew what to look for. By the second match I was starting to get more comfortable against him. In our most recent set we were even (sorry no video :frowning: ).

The first objective you should have when playing any Akuma is to limit the gimmicks and force him to play you straight. You will find if you do that then 90% of the Akumas online will fall apart. The second step is then to work your way out of the legitimate pressure.

I do Ibuki’s slide to get underneath them, is that something RedCaliburn could use too?

Slide is fine too if there is no way to punish it (and as far as I know I haven’t found one off of a normal cancel). The bottom line is not to stand there and let him grab you. A lot of Akuma’s know how to use flip antics because it works so well against lower level players that don’t know how to counter it. Yet once you start punishing that you will find many Akuma players don’t know what to do past that and they often fall apart. Too many players base their offense around that.

Now granted JR is a good enough Akuma that he can play without Gimmicks, but trust me when I say it is much easier playing with the gimmicks as Akuma.

To be more specific about ā€œnot pressuring Akuma enough,ā€ try using mk.tsumuji instead of hk.tsumuji for a block string. It leaves you at 0 on block and the spacing to setup stuff like a whiff punish, a poke, or a walk up and throw.

Gunna make a video of 3 matches that show why you should NEVER give up. Not 'cause I kept playing, but people who think they’re going to win just do silly things 'cause they’re cocky.

That CvS2 soundtrack brings back old memories.

Well I finally found the ClakeyD vs Justin Wong video, no thanks to you guys. Now I can finally figure out wtf you guys are talking about.

Justin.tv - iplaywinner - WEST COAST WARZONE 3

Good shit to ClakeyD. Looked like that last kazegiri was just execution fail, probably trying to do EX kazegiri.

Can’t find this ClakeyD vs Vangief video you guys speak of though.

I’m sure he tried to cancel it. That was great to watch though.
Even Justin Wong gets hit by the Kunai after the EX Kazegiri. =D

I am relatively new to SSF4, and have never really been a competetive player. That being said I am looking to improve to ā€œtournament levelā€. Unfortunatley I do not have the means to record/upload my matches to youtube so that I can give you a clickable link for your critiques. So I ask that anyone willing to take the time to help me out please add me on XBL. My gamertag is xtetsujinx. This is currently the only way I have of sharing any footage of my more than epic vortex/punish/any other tool Ibuki has at her disposal fails.

Just like usual, send me an invite when I’m online. =)

Has anyone found the video(s) of Clakey beating Justin?

Looks like someone did.

EDIT: Nvm, it wasn’t the losers match.

I have two videos one is against Abel. (It’s a good game for me)

The second is against Ken. (It’s a VERY bad match for me)

These aren’t very high quality. Feel free to be brutal if you want, but I am not very good, and I know it. Just looking for any advice you are willing to give me.

yo guys try to fine clakey vs ricky ortiz he beat him too and vangief i wanna c that

I have another video, this time against Akuma. I did better than I did against Ken, but I still lost. All of these matches happened today.

I also recorded it with my cell phone instead of that POS camera, the quality is MUCH better.

Looks like your Ibuki needs a shit ton of work. Or more specifically, your fundamentals need a ton of work. The main thing is, you aren’t thinking before doing, nor are you attempting to read your opponent. A clear example of this is when Ken is pressuring you in the corner in the first round, but you insist on mashing hk.kazegiri and jump back kunai, both terrible options.

No offense or anything brah, but you’re the example of a flowchart Ibuki. Jump back kunai spam, j.HK followed by cr.HK (such a gdlk combo used by every flowchart), mashed kazegiris when pressured and random full screen neckbreakers. You need to stop playing this way, asap.

The first thing you should do is play your games with insane patience. By this I mean to hold block more than letting go of blocking. No more random jumping around. No more mashed reversals. And no more random neckbreakers. Just block and react to your opponent.

I told you I was pretty bad. LOL, however, I am open to any advice, no matter how harsh it may seem. I suck, I know it. I didn’t post this to show how gdlk I am, I posted it so that someone BETTER than me can point out my flaws. Because I know I have some pretty big ones. Also, you won’t offend me, so please, blast away.

oh lord, i havent seen play that bad from a non rank beginner in awhile.

ok the first thing you need to do is…

i have no idea. its been so long since i was a beginner i cant even remember it. still i guess learning cancels would be a good start if only because you are overusing your normals. learn to do cancels like far st.mk xx mk tsumuji. go into training and practice cr.lp x2, st.lp, st.mk until you get a 4 hit combo 80-90% of the time, then start canceling the st.mk into mk tsumuji ONCE YOU ALREADY HAVE THE 4 HIT DOWN.

seriously though ibuki isnt suited for you at that play level… honda would be better.

-dime

Haha. I don’t care about winning and losing. I just care about understanding how to get better. Not how to win more. I like Ibuki, and I find playing with her difficult and fun, so that is who I want to play with.

Mingo, thanks for the advice BTW, I’m going to try it and then post another video.

Another video. Mingo, I did my best to focus on blocking, and trying to read the other player, this is the first match I played after your post. I did my best to avoid random nb’s, and mashing kazegiris while under pressure.

Anyone else who wants to help chizel out a scrub, feel free to join in.

Just fought an Akuma. The first round is really rough. It took me longer than it should have to catch onto his fireball > Grab nonsense. My use of my super in round three was an accident. I knew I was going to hit the fireball so I tried to hp. kunai to try and avoid it. I ended up wasting my super instead… Video is on the way as soon as youtube is done ā€œprocessingā€

Here it is.
