THE SF4 BEGINNERS Thread! NEW? POST HERE FIRST!

Is there a list of what are considered the main bread and butter combos for each character somewhere?

Is there a particularly popular/respected YouTube tutorial series on becoming a better player, especially for online?

I haven’t heard of a list of BnBs for every character, though you can easily find them in the specific character pages.

DarkSydePhil has a bunch of vids where he does tutorials on some characters here: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=7E42B48F79B939E6

**BODACIOUS!!! **
:rock::rock::rock:

hello every one Im very much new here. i saw this thread first so i figured id post.
i lurked here for awhile while trying to get good with fei, my personal fav. Hey that kinda rhymed. well im decent but ive had to rely heavily on luck and timing rather than combos and cancels.which is why i figured id just join up and ask around maybe get a gamertag or two. im sure after this post i’ll make myself comfortable in the fei thread. well thats my intro spill. i think im going to make use of a smiley…

New here, hello all.

Wtf is Rekka?

Thanks.

I don’t know what it actually means, but Rekka here tends to refer to a series of special moves that are sequential in nature (based on Fei Long’s Rekka Ken in SSF2).

Fei Long’s qcf + P x 3 is a Rekka.

Abels qcf + P, f + P/K, f + P/K is a Rekka.

Thanks for the brilliant site!
After lurking for a good month I finally signed up…
add DXXTZN on XBL for some games

Ah, thank you very much Darkstalker!

Hi guys

I’ve just signed up after lurking as I’ve hit a wall in my playing and need some advice.

First of all I cant decide on a main in this game so I end up playing everyone rather than focusing on someone to go for wins.

No-one really seems to click yet, so what should I do keep mixing it up till someone clicks or just go off my win%?

Second I suck at link combos. I cant seem to get the timing right no matter how hard I try. Basic stuff like jab to headbutt with boxer, or FA into supers is easy but I can barely do lvl4 trials never mind in a fight.

Am I really bad, or can I chalk this one down to being stick-less? If not some tips to remember the timing on inputs would be awesome, as I’ve heard that its something to do with the flashes on the health bar but I’ll be damned if i can work it out.

One/Two Combos are enough for flowchart kens and shoto noobs, but whenever I play someone who can link combo, cross up etc I get raped with a link combo off a single missed move, so I feel like I have to hit twice as much to clutch a win.

So Signed Up For The Forums, wanting To Get Back into Street Fighter because of Street Fighter IV. I played SF2 & SF3 back in the da but took a break and went to Guilty Gear X-2. Yet During that time I forgot how to do must stuff (besides basics).
Those links in the first post are helping a lot. Well I just wanted to say thank you.
No Real Questions Since All Of Those Links Explain Them All

is sakura the only character with an extra alternate costume?

If by that you mean that you have no idea where to start to get them out then perhaps checking out some video or someone else doing them where you can hear the clicks of the button presses would be useful (i.e. )

If you mean that you can do them sometimes but only very inconsistently then unfortunately it’s all muscle memory and rhythm and you’re just going to have to practice.

All of the links in the game can be done with a controller, particularly since the difficulty lies in the timing not dexterity. If it makes you feel better the timing on links really is strict and they are difficult.

I wouldn’t worry about the flashing health bar. It’s highly debatable whether it’s in any way related. Some people find it helps which is great, but since you don’t it’s not worth worrying about.

It’s still beneficial playing even if you’re being out-comboed. In particular it means your defense and strategy/mind games will have to improve since you will have to get in more to get the KO. Once you also become a combo master and work them in you’ll be an unstopable ninja! :nunchuck:

Yeah pretty much.

Everyone else its just colours

Guess its just practice then, though I swear to god I would kill just to have two bumpers on the right instead of a trigger.

Hopefully I’ll get a stick in the future, but right now I’m not paying silly money for one on e-bay.

Now I just need to find a fighter I can stick with.

My thoughts on choosing are:

Seth = godly zone machine. Also made from glass.

Vega = Slower than ST and low tier but still his cross up game rocks and ex knee to the face plus dive is awesome.

Sagat = Is sagat…

Rufus = Ex messiah kick… “is a very naughty boy” (In which I mean has crap loads of priority) He combos well both into super and ultra and has some very nice pokes. I struggle with his anti fireball game though.

Well I guess moving the focus to them instead of playing the whole roster is a start eh?

I’m in the same boat - keep changing my mind about who to main… Certainly makes it harder to get links down since every character has different timing. :looney:

where would i go to find defensive strategies against cross-up users?

The basic strategy against crossups is to not let yourself fall in to a position where your opponent can cross you up. This may vary from character to character, versus character to character. What ever character-you-use’s character forum’s matchup thread would be a good place to ask.

Quick Question and It might not even be useful to do in the game. Can you FADC ex-moves? I was trying to in training and it didn’t seem to be working. I could easily FADC regular special moves though. Would it be a waste to do it anyways?

I couldn’t find this in the notation FAQ - what do SZ, HB, SA2, AB stand for? Are these terms in some other notation FAQ?

Thanks. Coincidentally I was just randomly at his Sagat tutorial a couple days ago.

I just tested in training mode and yes, you can FADC ex moves. There may be some character specific reason that would justify using so much meter at once but nothing that springs to mind really.

I suppose if you were one hit away from dying on the last round and someone blocked an ex-dp then you might want to FADC-back to avoid getting punished…
