Can you tech an air-throw?

Like others have said, I definitely fall into the target market as well. Got blisters on my thumbs back on SNES… and pretty much haven’t played video games since then. SFHDR and SF4 hit that nostalgic cord and made me have to dive back in. It is definitely a slow process!

I have been playing Ken (hmm, like the rest of the world) and have found myself so dependent on his kara throw, it will be difficult to pick up another character. I cannot seem to find any info on other character’s kara throws. From what I can tell, in 3s nearly every character had one, but the effectiveness varied drastically. It sounds as though Ken has without a doubt the strongest with this F+MK kara. Which other characters have strong kara throws? Is there a list anywhere?

Thank everyone. SRK is such an incredible resource.

This post sucks. It has too much speculation. The only thing useful here was the very last link.

this is not true, doing the special move and pressing more than one button will get the EX version. you need to press a punch and then press 2 more punch buttons simultaneously right after the initial button push, examples:
qcb+lp, mp+hp
qcb+mp, lp+mp
qcb+lp+mp+hp, lp+mp+hp

it doesnt matter which you press and when, although the last one is stupid because youll use your meter on a special move which you then cancel.

we were all new once. its ok to suck when the game hasnt even been out for a week -_-

you can get joysticks for under 80 bucks. if you wanna suffer on pad, have a blast.

if youre learning how the game plays, ryu and sagat are always good places to start. i would recommend trying everyone on the roster for at least a little. watch videos and see what certain characters can do and experiment yourself with their specials and combos. its worth it to lose a few games online to see if you hate a character or not.

no

im not entirely sure of who has a good kara in sf4 other than ken, its been reported that gen, sakura, and gouken have some but i havent tested/seen them so who knows. unfortunately there is no definitive list of who has a good kara throw.

you must be new! welcome to srk!

Holy shit I’m stupid lol.

I worded that completely wrong. My bad

the edit tool is a beautiful thing

Hi,

Wasn’t sure about the term FADC so did a search…

Anybody else in the same boat, it means Focus Attack Dash Cancel…

In some of the move list, the move requires a “+” such as D+K,so does it mean press down and kick at the same time or down first ,then kick?

Hallo, I’m new to SF. Have been playing other fighters but never really played SF.
I’ve been reading these forums and went back to an old favorite website (sirlin.net) and found the following videos: http://www.sirlin.net/blog/2006/11/15/street-fighter-tutorial-videos.html and was wondering if those videos, or atleast most of it, also apply to SF4?

Can’t get two Fightpads working at once (PS3)

Hi all, first time poster here. Hopefully this is the best place to post this issue I’m having.

I played Alpha 3 for a while, but wasn’t terribly good, but as soon as I heard about SF4 I bought a PS3 and was really anxious to check it out. I’ve never played in arcades, having played the SF2 series on the SNES and Alpha 2 & 3 on the Saturn/PS1 (using Saturn on both consoles pads), so I bought a pair of the new Fightpads along with SF4 last week.

However, the first day I tried them, one of the pads (Ryu) wasn’t registering button presses all of the time. The Ken pad worked just fine, and we tested receivers and found that the Ryu pad worked with the Ken receiver so I exchanged the Ryu for another one at Gamestop on Friday thinking I just got a defective receiver.

Now a new problem: I can’t get the Ken receiver to work now regardless of which pad I use, even when it’s the only receiver in the PS3. (Note that this receiver worked with both original pads last week.) I’m pretty frustrated with this and wondered if anyone else has experienced the same issues, and knows how to fix them.

I’m tempted to take the Ken pad back now (assuming I can even find another one), but I can’t figure out why it suddenly stopped working - immediately after I tested the new Ryu pad/receiver. I’m hoping it’s user error since these pads are scarce.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I can super cancel Ken’s dp into Shoryureppa easily by adding another qcf after the shoryuken but I can’t seem to cancel from fireball moves like Dhalsim’s yoga fire or Rose’s Soul spark by doing another fireball motion. Is something wrong with my timing or must I do the full qcfx2 in order to cancel? Thanks.

Suggested 360 Controller Button Map:

x- MP
y- HP
a- MK
b- HK

lt- LP
lb- LK

rt- KKK or PPP (depending on which your character needs for ultra)
rb- throw (since hitting lt/lb is difficult when using analog stick)

This puts all your medium punches/kicks on the face buttons, since they are the most commonly used attacks. Focus attacks are easy to do by pressing x+a. While using the analog stick, the left trigger and bumper are the most awkward buttons to use. I prefer to have my weak attacks there, but if you use them a lot you could switch throw/KKK (or PPP) to those slots.

I’m new to this site, community, and game in general.
I’ve been playing Dead or Alive 4 for two years (maining Hitomi, active member in the DOA community) and am looking for a second fighting game to play aswell. I just picked this game up today, and plan on either maining C. Viper or Sakura.

‘+’ means you push the two commands at the same time.
example: d+hk - push down and hard kick at the same time

‘,’ means successive commands
example: d, d/f, f - roll the stick from down to forward (hadouken motion)

‘~’ means successive commands quickly, for like a kara throw or sagat’s fake kick. this is much more commonly used in tekken notation
example: F+mk~lk+lp
(note: most like 99% of people dont use the last on this forum, but spreading the knowledge doesn’t hurt, Tekkenzaibatsu.com has a whole legend for tekken notation if you feel so inclined)

many top players can tell you what “x” game has taught them about street fighter in general but make sure you take other games in perspective and play this game as a new game, not as an evolved ST.

so take it back, whats stopping you?

you probably arent doing the motion fast enough. if youre still having problems then do the full motion for the super.

for the gamestop tournament it has to be default controller settings.

welcome. next time ask a question.

Quick question on throws:

I’ve been playing the CPU and I noticed that I am getting thrown on wakeup (immediately after I’m getting up from the ground). I’m coming from HDR, and old school SF2 in general, where you could NOT throw someone immediately after he got off the ground. Is this some new development in SF4? Or is it a case of the computer pulling off some shenanigans? Will its throw beat normal attacks as well? I swear I was mashing jab to interrupt and still got thrown…

Bison Qs:

Is there any way of not getting srked when going for the extra hit after headstomp?

Is there any time teleportation can be used offensively, safely?

i’ll admit that i don’t know enough sf2 to answer your question from that viewpoint.

but as for sf4 itself, there’s no reason you can’t be thrown on wake up. a throw has start up, active frames, and recovery frames just like any other move. if the opponent times it so that the active frames get you as soon as you get up, you will be thrown.

now, your jabs (and any other move) also has start up frames. if your opponent’s active throw frames are already out when you are starting your jab, your jab never gets a chance to reach hit frames before you get thrown.

in other words, you either need to just jump, or do a wake up move with invincible frames (e.g. SRK).

try crossing them up after the headstomp connects and then following up with the flying punch. its not free but its definitely more difficult to uppercut.

afaik bison’s tele isnt as good as 'sims but im sure you can after a knockdown although you don’t get any really good extra options.

these are great questions for the bison sub forum because you are asking how to USE a move as opposed to how to EXECUTE a move. just make sure you read up a little in there to see if these questions have been answered.

Best place to put this I guess, basically what is it that occurs to make players get a blue pulse when an attack is blocked? (also “reversal” usually shows up under that characters name) Is that when you stop an attack by using focus just at the right time?
