The Sanwa and Seimitsu FAQ

On this pic: http://img95.imageshack.us/img95/4286/beztytuuco8.gif , I don’t understand what the execution ratings mean. On the bottom it says the ratings are from 1-6, with 6 being the best, but then I see negative ratings on some of the sticks, positives on others, and just neutral on the other ones. I am wondering what execution refers to in terms of performance with the stick, if the positive and negative ratings are in relation to something.

what does the hitting percentage under the diagonal column on the chart comparing the sticks mean?

On the topic of stick feel…what are some good examples of sticks with a fairly short throw and stiff spring? Is there a way to modify existing sticks to change these characteristics?

Honestly, I also have no clue what a lot of those measurements mean. Most of them are non-standard measurements that kowal seemed to have made up as forms of comparison. I wouldn’t read too much into a lot of them.

I honestly don’t put much value into anything that is to the right of the engage column. But maybe that’s just me. Kowal knows a lot so you should ask him directly.

LS-32 is a good example of short throw and stiff spring. It’s pretty difficult to adjust throw and not have the joystick function as accurately but spring stiffness is obviously easy.

Would anyone be able to explain for me the specifics of what makes the Seimitsu LS-32, LS-32-01, and LS-32-02 different from one another? Many thanks in advance!

(Ultimately I’m interested in possibly putting one into a HRAP2 or a T5 stick, but right now I’m mostly just curious about what is what.)

LS-32-01 IS LS-32-02. The catalog ID is LS-32-01 and has been forever, but at some point Seimitsu must have revised the PCB and changed the printing on the PCB to LS-32-02.

The only difference between, LS-32 and LS-32-01 is that LS-32-01 has the PCB which allows you to use a wire harness. That’s it.

Why would an octagonal/circular gate have a lesser chance of hitting a diagonal than a square gate if you hit the joystick correctly and what does reflecting under the centering column mean? Also which is better a square, octagonal, or circular gate on a Sanwa JLF?

I’ve got a reaaaaally silly question. One that makes each and every previous and fairly silly question I’ve asked look like some monsterful Einsteinian opus chef d’oeuvre masterpiece.

I’d like to order a few 30mm Japanese button hole plugs. Tell me about the most minute and trivial differences between the Sanwa OSBM-30 and the Seimitsu AM-30.

Thank you for indulging my perfectionist idiocy.

Does anyone have the exact measurements on the JLF-TP-8S mountingplate (JLF-P-1S) ?
Tried to search the forums, but found nothing of relevance.

Sanwa’s are textured while Seimitsu’s are smooth.

Per has some diagrams but I don’t know where they are at the moment. If you ask him, he probably has them.

I have found it to really be a matter of preference. I use an octagon gate on my HRAP2 while I have a square gate on my custom with a Sanwa JLF. And there is no circular gate for the JLF, that is only on the JLW.

See! Per to the rescue again!

~Paik

Yay! What would we do without him!

I just got my JLW-UM in, and holy crap that thing is stiff. The throw is incredibly short, too. It literally feels like it’s got a throw distance of half or less than my Seimitsus’.

Is the JLF drastically different in feel from the JLW? I’ve got an LS-33 and an LS-32, and I thought the LS-32 was a bit stiff, but the JLW is in another league. It actually feels kind of weird to me, but I guess I won’t really know which one I prefer until I’ve been able to mount all 3 and play on em.

EDIT: I actually screwed the bat top on and now it does engage a bit easier when playing from the top of the handle, guess I shouldn’t have gotten my first impression from just wiggling the shaft. Throw distance seems to have increased a tad bit too, but still noticeably less than the Seimitsus’ and still feels more stiff than the LS-32.

From what I’ve read the LS-32 is supposedly more stiff feeling than the JLF right? So there must be a pretty big difference in play between the JLW and JLF?

I didn’t find this here so I’ll have to ask. I am modding my agetec, and I am going to use a JLW with a circular gate for the stick, which it seems will fit within the mounting depth. I prefer happ buttons over sanwas, but there is absolutely not enough depth to put competitions in here. I just wanted to know if there exists a happ button with a smaller mounting depth than 1.75 inches (which is what I have room for in the agetec) or if there are sanwa or seimitsu buttons that are a little more resistant like happs when pressed. I prefer the springier feel, and the sanwas seem to go off too easily for me.

Yes, there is a pretty big difference in feel.

I don’t know anything about Happ parts so someone else can chime in, but as for springier feel Jap buttons, I don’t think so. At least not standard fighting game buttons. I guess you could go with some of the other buttons that they sell for other types of games, but performance-wise I don’t know how they measure up.

You MAY like Korean buttons. I think they’re a bit in-between Happ and Jap parts. I know someone is selling some used ones on the boards and I have one set of new ones. Go do a search for Korean under trading outlet and both that guy’s thread and my thread should show up.

Whats the trick with the seimitsu e-clip?

I got it off but could not get it back on. I ended up using a regular e-clip from by “misc e-clip bin”

I’d like to keep the seimitsu clip on there though.

I honestly just forced it back on…though I talked to Per about it a long time ago and I think he said there’s a weird special tool? Or maybe I’m just imagining that convo…

I also wanted to say that this thread has been getting a lot more use lately. For which I am happy.
