Sounds good Romeo, i probably shoulda mentioned that last little bit of information. I’m probably gonna be the first inline for a jamba juice before the tourney starts
Also, sorry i haven’t been able to make it to your events, i have been working every saturday from 11-8pm or afternoon to closing shifts. :crybaby:
Yeah, i think i’m just going to start with SFIV and BB. As time goes on, i think i’ll slip in KOFXII (maybe on the second one or third). I REALLY want to do guilty gear, but the turnout might not be so good…i can only hope XD
Definitely going to be some casuals before (unless there happens to be an event occurring before the time of the tourney, e.g. magic tourney that day). But this will be discussed with the owner (i don’t think he’ll have a problem with it at all).
Okay, it seems like Sunday/Fridays work best for people. Even though i work on Sundays, i think that would probably be the best time to throw them (sometime after 4PM, i’m thinking about 6pm start time). I’m really appreciating all the great feedback everyone is giving me. I really hope the turnout will be great, and people have a lot of fun
So are we talking like August 2nd or 12th? or… dot dot dot
I want to say the 23rd of August. I’m going to try and shoot for that. How does everyone feel about a $4.00 per game tourney with a venue fee of $3.00? The pot split for now will be 70/20/10 unless there is heavy opposition. I don’t want to go under or above what is set by the more local tournies going on here, and i really hope people can attend Romeo’s and my tournies as well. Right now i am going to test out Sundays. If we don’t get a good turnout, i’ll see about messing around with a different day but for now it seems like Sunday, and i want to say the 23rd of August (THIS IS NOT FINAL). The time would most likely be 6:00 PM. I am going to re-send my proposal to the owner, and once i get word from him, i’ll see whats up. How does this sound guys?
Also, i would like to run two setups for each tournament. We are going to start with Blazblu and SFIV. I will run SFIV, and Mr. Spirit Juice will be taking on Blazblu. I want to do a double elimination style tournament. best 2 out of 3 rounds for all matches until the finals (losers, winners, losers/winners) where we will have best 3 out of 5. As far as character select after losing, i will think about it. Right now i say you can change characters regardless of win/lose but if thats not what yall like, well then i guess i have to change that
Feedback time! hope i didn’t miss anything…
Geezer, that entry fee structure seems just fine. Interestingly enough, there have been some people that have wondered why the fee is “so low” at The City(go figure). I’d like to make it out to both too, and I’m sure a few SFIV heads would go to both. And 6:00 pm sounds like a good time.
I have ONE suggestion. I’d save the 3/5 format solely for grand finals. It gets really long when 3/5 is for all finals, and I think saving it for grand finals hypes the finals out more. Whew.
I’m glad with that. Knowing that I’m more than likely not going to win, playing and lvling up are my concerns, and it’s nice not paying quite as much (when I was in the smash scene the pay was usually 7 bucks and then 5 more per person for teams). Can’t wait.
7 dollars to get some invaluable knowledge about Street Fighter and maybe (hopefully) KoFXII down the road…
Im down and I’m gonna tell my friends.
23rd maybe, MAYBE

since there’s a lot of recurring tournaments already. it would be cool if this could be a team tournament to differentiate it from others
Oh dude good point, Som. Geezer, team tourneys have a whole different dynamic… what do you think about that? It’ll add some variety and might pull some more people. Watching a team is sometimes much more fun than just watching a single guy.
On a semirelated note, wish we did better in the 5v5 regionals :.
That seems reasonable, and my logic on thinking tournies last generally 2-3 hours could have never been more wrong (i never kept track of time in an actual tourney…). I might need to make the start time an hour earlier.
That’s a great idea actually, Som. You two got a point, but what’s the general turn-out for team tournies versus singles?
Oh, yeah!!! I second that notion. It would be a great way to set your tournament apart from the others… Make things alot more interesting, perhaps bringing in more people.
Good question. Any of our tourneyhopping players have an answer (eg the Davis people?) I’ll go ask them.
The only thing i fear is people dropping out, and then i see whole teams gone due to lack of member(s). Besides, i’m trying to attract as many new players as possible, and give them the best possible chance to show up. Some players may not want to attend because they don’t have anyone to team up with (lol, i am prime example
). But seriously, if the demand is for a team tourney, i guess it can be done. I just thought it’d be good to establish ourselves with a singles tourney then go for doubles maybe on the next one. I think Singles on Saturday at Romeo’s, then doubles on Sunday would be pretty kool.
Lol I don’t know anyone on my same skill level (I’m not that good) to enter doubles. Anyone wanna double up?
I’m prolly crappy enough.
Geezer, good point about team members dropping out. On a related note, Cam from Davis called me cause he needed a team member for Lanfest and I completely missed his call and didn’t check his voicemail :[. Very sorry Cam. There’s a prime example of what you were talking about x_x.
Geezer, I say we do singles for a few weeks and ask the people that come to your tourney how they feel about doubles. We can “convert” it to a double if enough people want it. That way, we’ll be able to better gauge what the people who actually go to the tourney want. But, yes, singles on Sat and doubles on Sun would be pretty cool.

That sounds great to do single on saturday and teams on sunday, however, it’s going to interfere with the current tournament ‘circuit’ and steal people from other tournaments.
First, there is already a singles tournament that is run on saturdays plus it like 3 minutes away from where you’re trying to have this one; City Cafe, right near circuit city.
Second, the Davis weekly has recently been bumped to Sunday so that day has already been taken up also.
With a lot of tournaments running consecutively, people won’t be going to as many. Like this past weekend, there was a tournament friday, saturday, and sunday. And from what I heard, not many people went to the one on sunday.
Having something different from the other 2 weekly tournaments that are already running will help it stand out.
my $0.02
AGH I totally forgot about the Sunday change for the tourney at Droms… Thanks for bringing it up again Som.
Geezer, what of this news?
Jesus christ…well that will mean that i’ve got to move the date to a weekday. Dunno, had so much good feedback from the local people here and dustloop, i was hoping that people wouldn’t want to drive out to wherever for a tourney seeing as how shit is local. But yeah, the fact the Davis tournies are on Sunday already means Davis will not come to this one. So i’ll have to see what my next move is.
I’m not so sure anymore man. I have to re-evaluate the dates…but i also got to keep in mind the location of the other tournies. It’s like either i choose a weekday and get the small amount of players that have nothing to do during the week or go for a weekend and hope people show up. Either way, i’ll check out the other tournies again, and see what my next move will be.
EDIT: Thank you two for your input, it has certainly helped. I will try to see what i can do.
Geezer, it also depends on when you run it on Sunday. Last time there was a conflicting date (Sat @ Droms and Sat @ The City), it didn’t seem to cause too many problems because of the marked time difference between the tourneys. Davis made it all the way out to Sac right after Droms!
Sunday still seems like the best day, but it’d be nice if we wouldn’t have to step on other tourneys’ organizers’ toes. However, it starts at 2pm Sundays at Droms, so I honestly think it shouldn’t make too much of a difference if we start late enough. And I think that since a weekday is so out of the question for many people, we should just automatically assume people can’t make weekdays, and try to plan around them.
Evenings are always good for me. Doesn’t matter what day.
