The Rap Thread: News, Reviews, Rants & Opinions: Volume 9 - Yes, we know "Hip Hop"

I still gotta hear the shit he did between Op:Doom and MM…FOOD. Also gotta here BLT. I’ve been slacking on my Doom, lately. Not much he’s done can fuck with Madvillainy.

Hated most of that album.

Don’t remember that album.

Yeah, Tariq is NASTY. His style is so basic and simple, but it’s one that I’ve only rarely been able to duplicate and never for very long. Shit is just raw.

I’d say MM FOOD is probably his best work. I dunno maybe cause One Beer is one of my favorite songs. Even though that’s the only track on that album he didn’t produce (Madlib did).

I need to jam more roots. Dilemma I can’t afford serato or a new laptop wtf do I do to play records

Every now and then, I still play MM…FOOD. It’s one of the only CDs I have personally bought. I got the pop-tart wrapper version. lol.

the OGs need to put me on Mac Dre and Pimp C…

flea markets and goodwill, **buy actual vinyl. **

I know man but maybe thisway I can grasp the basics better

lol not really the wu have been linked to that shit for decades. its all the lil affiliate crews that be doin it though its just cause your coo with the wu they get blamed.

**the best way to to grasp the basics is to actually spin the genuine material. **

Yeah, his folks have to have some vinyl… unless they sold it…

I don’t spin, but I do have a turntable(the old ones not meant for spinning btw), and I have a good 100 or so vinyl records, the sound on 'em is boss…

Do DJ turntables still have needles?

If so, he needs to practice on a record he is not afraid of scratching, because placing a needle on a record for the first time on a record you actually care about is nerveracking…

imo, get somebody to show you the ropes imo… or trial and error that shit out yourself…

if it’s vinyl turntables, yes, still cartridge based needles. reason I mentioned goodwill and flea markets. You can get a bunch of old stuff to mess around with. But if you find first prints and rarities in good condition don’t scratch them up, save them.

It’s the Whitney Houston Syndrome at work.

As a Doom connoisseur MM…Food was definitely his best work from a creative and lyrical standpoint. He went all out with following a theme that was both coherent and entertaining.

Rapp Snitches Knishes is still my favorite Doom track and one of my all time favorite rap songs.

I just got that Gambino line (from That Power):
“MM Food like Rapp Snitch Knishes
’cuz it’s Oreos Twinkies, Coconuts, delicious”

Hmm. How many of you are just now getting certain lines because you never made it to urban dictionary for some reason?

accordion is my favorite doom song.
second figaro.

I was listening to this:

and decided to look up mr magic on wiki…this is wrong but I was in tears when I read this:

Death

As confirmed by DJ Premier, Mr. Magic died on the morning of October 2, 2009 from a rap attack.[5]

Happens to me a lot.

Deep Fried Frenz is also a personal fave, because it speaks so much truth.

"Friends is a term some people use loosely

 • I’m real choosy on what I choose to let crews see*
 • You telling me, I try to act broke*
 • Jealousy is the number one killer among black folk*"
