None the less Koop, the stuff they rapped about back then is the same thing people rap about today, so its not use saying Drake is wack when LL is just as guilty for crooning on that emo “im just trying to wife you up” stuff.
Popular themes in hip hop:
-Drugs
-Money
-Women
-Shoes
-Jewelry
-Guns
-Alcohol
-Fighting
-Hustling
-Going to the club
-Traveling the world
-They momma
-They daddy
-“They was doubting me but I made it!”
Now I’m not say thats ALL that rap about, I’m saying they rapped about it back in the day and they rap about it now. So whats the real complaint here?
In 20 years Kendrick Lamar might get his stripes and be sitting up there with the rest of the Hip Hop elite. I’m just not getting the argument.
If they’re wack theyre wack, but its not like the content is THAT monotone that it should turn you off. At the end of the day its about the delivery and the production, so thats why the same themes are tolerable. Thats why I can listen to Luda, Big Sean, T.i., Twista, Shawty Lo, Rocko, Andre 3000, Ice Cub and Busta Rhymes rap about a womans ass. Because they giving it to me a bunch of different ways.
The funny thing is as much as people hate on Cudi, Wayne, Kanye, Lil B, Lupe…etc etc they have all opened hip hop up and gave us new themes to play with.
I think thats indefinitely more valuable than hearing your favorite new underground hype rap about the same thing as the nigga on 106&Park that you apparently cant stand.
