The Rap Thread: News, Reviews, Rants, Opinions Vol 7. Death to Swizz Beats!

i think 50 said it best, what did he owe those niggas? dudes started coming for his head (nas, d-block and cam) so he had to go at those niggas. and how you gonna say 50 wasn’t reaching out to NY niggas and then say he went at diddy when that’s the dude that axed his move to get mase? also i didn’t know that MOP and mobb deep weren’t NY artists anymore.

Whoa Young Chris is on RocNation!? Finally! My dude J. Cole went in as always

First of all…on some real ish…Tell me 5 Classic Wayne songs…I mean the type of songs that Ninjas and Rolling Stone (dem milk and crackers) will remember and site in 10 years later (like BIG, Tupac)? Why you think 50 was getting at dude for the longest? The only time Fif conceded was when Wayne came out with LOLpop

Big Poppa, Juicy, Hypnotize, One More Chance, Mo Money, Mo Problems, the Warning…The guest with Total, the guest on Flava In Your Ear, yadda, yadda,

One definite classic…one debatable…

We can debate but there’s no way you can convince me Wayne has a classic album - Jurnee Smollett.

Catalog…

Rakim has one of the best catalogs:

Paid in Full
Follow The Leader
Don’t Sweat the Technique
18th Letter
The Master
7th Seal
Let the Rhythm Hit’em

Ghost Face is also great:
Iron Man
Supreme Clientelle
Fishscale
Bulletproof Wallets
Pretty Toney
Big Doe Rehab
Ghostdini
and his part on OBCL1 and 2 plus Wu-Tang

Jay-Z is up there with them.

What do the three of them have in common, Classics…

Forgot about Common and Outkast. Face might be another ninja up there. Dre with associations. Kanye getting there (despite the autocoon album).

Clifford don’t have no classic. Wayne no classic or consistency. DMX…rofl.

He signed them just so he could eat off of them, which didn’t work out too well because Mobb flopped hard and MOP didn’t even drop an album.

Yeah, I think his expansion goals were a bit lofty.

Olivia
Tony Yayo
Mobb Deep
Mase
Spiderloc
Young Buck
MOPP
Lloyd Banks
Hot Rod

I’d say that was the beginning of the end. Which do you think was worst the Amerikken Nightmare or the G-Unit joint (which are their two worst albums following the heaterz of Hell on Earth, Infamous and Murder Muzik. They began falling off at Infamy).

Trap Muzik is Clifford’s classic IMO.

And I don’t throw that word around AT ALL. Trap Muzik may have been the best rap album of the last decade, IMO. Definitely top 5.

College Dropout >Trap Muzik
BE> Trap Muzik

Be??? Fuck no… and I love Be.

College Dropout… you can make an argument.

Man I’m jamming this Pharrell , Timberland and Magoo- Vulnerable this shit banging http://www.youtube.com

I stand by Fly or Die as one of my favorite Albums of all time since I was a kid.

I’ll say that beg for mercy cd.It’s not a horrible album,it’s just ok.At the time(i was 13) I expected alot more from G-unit after hearing the mixtapes and Get Rich. The beats were hit or miss.I forgot all about the lyrics on there,I remember Banks killing every track tho.“Smile” is like really the only joint I could go back on bump off of there. It dosen’t get old to me.With that being said The Massacre>>>>Beg For Mercy. As for Amerikkka’s Nightmare, hmmmmmmm. It had it’s bangers on there:

When You Hear The
Win Or Lose
We Up
Somethings’ll Never Change
That joint with Nate Dogg
That joint with Jadakiss
Shorty Wop

i might be forgetting some,it’s been a min since i heard it.P had an ill verse on We Up.I don’t think Infamy’s that bad of an album.I think that was the last Mobb album with that Mobb sound(Get Away,Burn,Hey Luv,Pray For Me,Clap). And “No Place Like Home” or whatever the title was was the illest joint on there imo.“Keep Crawlin” was tight too.Hell,I still bump Infamy.

am i high or has b.e.p been getting back to their old school hip hop roots wit their new album beat wise. it seems yeah they got these electronic pop party beats but they seem to be mixing it in with break beats. as if their trying to hide the fact they like break beats and wanna just start break dancing again.

omg…just saw lady gaga’s video for telephone…WHAT…THE FUCK…WERE…THEY …SMOKING?! i cant even link the damn video its so out there. u need to find it…lol…i swear lady gaga just found an excuse to be either semi naked or nude. this vid is like the pop version of bet after dark.

its some weird hybrid of bonnie and clyde meets grindhouse…specifically taratinos version of grindhouse.

and can the music industry stop trying to make beyonce white…its done…youve reached your peak…you cant make this bitch anymore white looking without bleaching her.

Um yea, Rakim, Common, Scarface aren’t in the discussion for best catalogs. Be real. Especially Rakim. He has some extra dull albums. You cant count duo’s imo either.

Az has some solid albums too

Do or Die
Pieces of a man
Aziatic
Undeniable
Awol

Gotta rep Queens some more

Walking like a Panther
Mama said knock you Out
Mr. Smith
Phenomenon

I honestly never heard an LL album after Phenomenon so I don’t have an opinion on those…im sure they are pretty bad though.

I forgot about AZ’s catalog for a min,A always brings it.I think Kweli has a nice catalog too:

Black Star
Train Of Thought
Ear Drum
Right About Now

I haven’t heard Quality.Beautiful Struggle was eh.I didn’t really like that album.I would say Masta Ace too

The Show
A&E
Long Hot Summer

I heard some snippets of Slaughtahouse,Sittin’ On Chrome,Dispoable Arts, and Take A Look Around, they all sound hot.So Ace has like 7 joints that’s worth checking all together

It makes the whole “Star Franchise Player” comment more believable. I’m sure I could put together a squad of 8 people and compete with the Nets :arazz:

Com’s pops was in the NBA too…shrug

  • :bluu:

What do you mean rofl dmx ? Cuz dmx has a lot of classics. And he has a classic album.

And Wayne has classics. more than one anyway.

Songs of the day…
Talib Kweli - "Get By"
David Banner feat Devin The Dude & Kamikaze - “Living”

And damn I forgot Talib went in on his first album…

What in the fuck… I just watched that shit. Epic wildness. It’s like the most random shit I’ve come across in a while. No words for this shit.

Dead @ “told you shit didn’t have a dick.” Her damned coochy was out. lmao

Wayne Has a Lot of “Classics” Cuz he be sayin a lot of Funny or really Dope One/two Liners on His tracks… Not every track is like Dedication 2, or even drought 3 or the Drought is over ish, same thing really… Wayne is good, Jus needs to Quit leaving shit all over the place, haha…

AND AS farrr a 50 goes… MAAAANNN, NY RAPPRES DIDN’T WANT 50 to WIN, they scared of SOuth Side… G’z Up all fuckin day! COme on now… They didn’t want 50 takin over the rap game(which he did, my bad) they jus didn’t want another Deathrow Camp Yet… Fuuuuck that, If the Bullshit that happened w/ game(300 bars took fuckin a year to write) didn’t happen, I think G-unit would have taken out your fav rappers. Its prolly still hard for him to even considers thinkin bout meetin artist, so instead, 50 got southside together, NY got shook.* … But Instead the INDUStry fucked up, N jus hated on 50, n 50 jus passed out allll the negitivity to Bank$ (imo) lol… WHich is prolly the best person to figure out how to deal with it… BOO*
To me, Bank$ got this rap shit on lock, its Just a Matter of time B4 Hip Hop Goes from FAGGOOT WEARIN BITCH MADE QUEERS who like SKINNY JEaNs, to Money diamons, n bitches… Real Recognize real yo…
