The Rap Thread: News, Reviews, Rants, Opinions Vol 7. Death to Swizz Beats!

like biz. or soulja boy. or dmc. or old dirty bastard. or wyclef. etc. etc.

ppl that don’t listen to his shit predicting that he won’t last long. like how do you know??

this isn’t aimed at you necessarily, its just something that i see a lot of. dude will last as long as the music is good…and the music on those tapes and appearances on other ppl’s tapes is good.

i think its ppl wishing he won’t last…

again… he won’t last very long.

I will give him his fifteen minutes of entertaining the audience an clubs. Surely without a doubt. I don’t look for no “rappers” downfall its just shows

We are in that 15 minutes of fame phase that Hip Hop has for every generation. An out of that comes either the “gangsta” or “lyrical” phase

no need to get uptight. I’ve witnessed his ability to hold his own with his song in the club along with numerous others just this past weekend. no doubt he speaks to a generation of simple thoughts and a attention span of 2 months at most. Sadly with todays rate of incoming class of rappers I am simply saying his generation will be his ultimate demise an he will have a milk carton moment…

we grown men in this thread an have good arguments playa… i dont take things to heart just give my opinion an respect yours as well…

^^^^^if you haven’t heard any of those then you can’t really speak about waka.
if you just judging dude by one interview and a single he barely raps on…i mean come on.

i get what you’re saying but ppl thought the same about gucci a few years ago. now look.

I thought the same about gucci AND waka. and nicki (yes, her too).
i went back and listened and then listened to the more recent stuff. the music is good.

i feel like ppl are sleeping on good music. like they have no knowledge of what they’re missing out on because they’ve already made it up in their minds that these dudes are garbage.

as a person that was like that up until recently, i can relate.

@ nairdas: fuck it, i fuck with this song:
Gucci Mane ft. Nicki Minaj -Slumber Party:

Why is it that if I haven’t heard of his mixtapes that I can’t comment on 'em? The song that is getting AIRPLAY is horrible enough that I wouldn’t want to listen to anything else by him. IMO of course. Also, the dude in the video is older, so I think his time was early 80’s.

Gucci and Bug Eyes have yet to grow on me as well; but its “whats hot on the radio” so your force feed that shit to no return. I do agree with Koop though, I doubt he will blow past this summer.

IMO of course 1nce gain

detox is garbage.
that new rae/ghost/meth is ass.
the new RAOWSSSs cd dropping in 2011 is garbage.
the carter IV is trash.
blueprint 4? basura.
the new clipse mixtape dropping in a few months before the album…trash.
fab’s til the casket drops 2 is garbage.
waka’s first cd is trash
drake AND nicki’s cd’s are both wack. weed plates.

is the Rae/Ghost/Meth album out or are you referring to the mixtape?

The album isnt shaping up to be anything special. “Our Dreams” is a lukewarm track that will get the skip treatment and “Criminology 2.5” is a track that Rae left off Cuban Linx 2 because everyone hated on it with a Meth verse and Second Ghost verse slapped on. The snippet of that “Miranda” track is dope though.

Im still bumping Diplo’s Free Gucci mixtape and some Yelawolf tracks.

this track reminds me of the kind of shit Andre3000 should be putting out right now instead of not putting out anything… what happened to that Big Boi?

the cd and the tape. i haven’t heard either tho.
add wiz khalifa’s first cd that will probably drop in the next year…oh and the next em album whenever that drops.

also, when this single hit the radio:

what were your thoughts on his dope bars?? and the cd being dope lyrically? cuz i know niggas in this thread was fucking with that single and cd when it dropped for more than the production.

what were your thoughts on the first verse being repeated twice in that song…?? just curious. and this dude was cosigned by greats such as:

gza
ins
meth
ghost
rae
rza
killah priest
cappadonna
masta killa
etc

this nigga glorified being drunk, high and having std’s and being on welfare…and he lasted more than one summer…

snakes:

where are the bars??

I see where both sides are coming from in this argument, but in the case of Wacka Flocka, I just can’t fuck with dude’s music after hearing his first single. As soon as I saw dudes name, my stomach turned. Wacka Flocka Flames? This nicca’s name makes him sound like a Muppet Baby. Then I heard that he had a smash single called “Oh Let’s Do It” and I decided to push past his retarded name and check his track out. The beat was meh and his chorus of “O LAY DOO EHT” was just too ignorant for my tastes. I just can’t listen to that, B.

i feel you but you can’t get more ignorant/yet creative than “ol dirty bastard.” his name and image were incredibly unique. it worked.

can’t forget about this:

lyrics ass but charisma and flow…the shit worked. period.

A lot of ODB’s hits had great beats though, that’s why a lot of chicks fuck with “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” and “Baby I Got Your Money”. Not to mention his classic appearance on Mariah’s “Fantasy (Remix)”.

Oh and as far as ignorance goes, Wacka Flocka Flames is way worse than Ol’ Dirty Bastard, keep it Trill?.

13 kids vs no kids
openly admitting having contracted multiple std’s twice vs not admitting anything
openly sharing with the media that he is still on welfare vs not sharing if he is on welfare or not
openly being high/drunk in interviews vs not openly being high/drunk during interviews
incoherent due to being high/drunk while recording vs. relatively coherent but hard to understand because of accent rather than being under the influence…

so…???

also waka is over zaytoven, drumaboi, etc. so…the production is there. zaytoven, drumaboi, and a few others are some of the most sought after producers in the south right now.
waka is getting cosigned by high profile and mutli plat artists. he just got in the game so you have to allow some time. odb wasn’t a sensation over night and waka won’t be either.

i think diddy plus ross on the remix is HUGE for a guy that nobody heard of a few months ago. and mad females fuck with olehdooooit.
the club is done when that song’s first note hits.

shout out to lil waynes court house catching fire, and him getting his shit postponed again. i smell conspiracy.

I just heard Waka Flocka’s song O Let’s Do It…It’s not bad imo,he’s doing his thing.I agree with whoever said that charisma can carry you more so than “lyrics”.As far as that whole lyrics debate I don’t think punches, wordplay, similes make you a dope rapper. It’s like my type of girl,I want a girl to have looks and a mind. Not no looks and a mind or vice versa. It’s a full package deal.

Take Meth for example,Meth has CRAZY wordplay but dude would be nothing if he didn’t have his personality.Personality is what draws me in more than the lyrics itself. Not saying I don’t care about a well put together song, you need the full package.I was thinking about how Eminem was on Infinite he had so called “lyrics” but his personality or mic presence or whatever you want to call it was lacking then. But then we get the Slim Shady LP you see his personality starts making his lyrics better.Hope im explaining this correctly.

@debs: When I said Wacka Flocka was more ignorant, I meant in his name, not his actions. Also, Zaytoven and Drumma Boi making hits for Wacka don’t compare to RZA, The Neptunes, and Puff making hits for ODB.

Something is clearly going on here. His first jail date was postponed because he had to get 8 root canals and today he was supposed to go to jail but the courthouse caught fire? GTFO.

Also, the fact that he’s always seen the day before his jail date smiling and cracking jokes without a care in the world really makes it seem like he knows that the date would get pushed back. It’s like, you’re about to go to jail tomorrow and instead of spending time with your daughter, you’re out partying. Hmmm…

again, you have to allow time. you’re comparing decades of work to a few months of work.
if its going to happen then it will.
ross and diddy cosigning the first single is a big start, IMHO.

look at it like this. when soulja boy first came out did you think kanye would work with him? now look. he’s producing a few tracks on his new album and kanye is doing the same for soulja boy.
but we all thought he’d be a one hit wonder, for the most part.

edit
going back to gucci for a sec, anybody ever thought he’d work with the neptunes? or be on other ppl’s singles like that? seems like sean garrett, the neptunes, bangladesh and gucci have enough material for an album…

Birdman’s has a tat of a ouija board on his head bet. Those bammas are from New Orleans. That Nahright comment was hilarious

“i know Plaxico is mad! they locked that nigga up the next day. lil wayne has been going to jail for the last 2 years!”

@Debs: Flava in ya Ear Remix and Craig Mack?

But that’s the thing, YOU chose ODB as a rapper for comparison, not me. Puffy’s cosign doesn’t mean much nowadays. At this point, he’s a celebrity and that’s it. Who was the last great artist that he put out? Puffy is becoming like Jay and jusy attaching himself to whatever the kids are into in order to give himself some shine. He ain’t doing shit for Wacka.

As far as SB is concerned, I didn’t think he was gonna be a one hit wonder, I just didn’t like his music and I still don’t. I’m happy for dude and his hustle, but I do not and will not look for his music.

** I** chose odb as a comparison as far as **BARS, NOT PRODUCTION. ** the debate is about bars. wu has selective memory, speaking on non rapping ass niggas when they cosigned one and wu fans have selective memory when it comes to this debate too. we all cosigned, copped and defended odb in the past, along with ghost’s lyrics (because niggas used to say he wasn’t talking about shit).

puffy’s cosign and ross’ means a lot to anybody up and coming, trust me. if puff got on the phone and called jay electronica, wiz, currensy, etc. you dont think they’d take the call and have him hop on a song…??

thats a good look period, whether you like dude or not.

and i don’t feel sb’s music like that but dude has grinded his way into the game and has made shit work for him.

oh and:

what in theee fuck. no shoes, rambling about…?? but odb >>>
