The Q&A Fuerte Matchup Thread

Your timing is off

Blanka’s unblockable on us is: Back throw dash up jump MK.

Always save that meter amigos.

what about the Ken Masters Matchup? i’m pretty free to online kens, but offline kens are a different story.

thnx, i cant help but feel like the timing against her is so strict. especially cuz if ur off by a lil bit she can forward dash out with that ridiculously low dash.

Is it just me, or are ibuki’s hard to pin down (wrestling term intentional). Not only does she have a narrow hitbox, but her mobility and air options are pretty annoying. Any general guidance with this matchup would be appreciated. I really don’t have a game plan for her, which is bad D:

I’ll type down what I know. I have very little trouble in this match up.

Giga Buster

  • Will punish 90% of all kunai setups. See kunai, ultra kunai.

Ultra Spark

  • AC blows up much of Ibuki’s kunai vortex but is not as consistent as Giga Buster. Needs autocorrects at times.
  • AC is useful during Ibuki’s spin kick pressure and frame trap game.
  • Punishes all neck breakers.

Meter

  • For the love of God don’t burn meter to get out of her vortex. In my mind it’s a waste and leads to many Fuertes fighting a handicapped match. Just block her.
  • Use meter to escape/punish her standing pressure game.

Normals

  • You can in fact footsies Ibuki.
  • Dropkick will lose to cr.strong
  • Far fierce is surprisingly good.
  • Far strong is also very good at whiff punishing some normals.
  • Cr.fierce beats all of her jump-ins.
  • The only buttons to really fear are her 3 frame standing jab and her cr.strong. Both lead to her vortex off of an easy hit-confirm.

Simple Vortex

  • Ibuki’s most basic vortex is off her forward throw. If she kunais light Quac/U1 that shit for free.
  • After Ridia a command dash jump forward is her basic safe jump. AC U2 to punish.

What You Can Do

  • Everything
  • Her DP is five frames of terribleness. EX version has a surprisingly forward hitbox. It will catch quick back steps.
  • Meaty slide until she has meter then keep meaty sliding.
  • Don’t press a button after spin kicks.
  • Two low spin kicks(high, low, low) in a row is not a block string. Ultra/EXrun.
  • Our air throw is better.
  • Her max punish on EXbomb sans ultra is one hit of spin kicks. No knockdown.

She only takes 250 health at a time. JUST STOP RUNNING AROUND AND BLOCK HER.

I’m at work so I had to do a quick list. If you have example of what you’re losing to I got the answers.

will definitely implement these techniques brotha! I never knew U1 would be potent in this matchup.

Honestly U2 has it’s uses but U1 is my choice in tournament matches.

EDIT: It works the same as it does agains Viper’s burn kicks. Stops the cross-up.

More Ibuki stuffs.

Normals

  • Shower kick(Borracho Flop) will randomly become almost impossible to block. Much like it did against Bison in Super.

Max and Random Punishes

  • Jump back kunai and EX kunai can be punished on reaction with Lvl3Bomb. Spacing dependent. Or with EXrun slide ala Akuma.
  • All blocked neck breakers can be punished with cr.short. cr.forward rs cr.forward.
  • Always focus after a blocked EXdp. EX kunai will whiff most of the time. Or you can EX Quac her.

Setups

  • After Fajita Buster the run back/forward ambiguous cross-up fierce will whiff due to her narrow hitbox.
  • Ultra traps don’t work.
  • Quac traps do work.

My brain stopped.

Notes for the Akuma match up? I’d actually rate this as my hardest match, I lose to way more online Akumas than I should. I’m ok with being patient when he’s zoning and I try to back him into a corner if he’s air fire balling all day. I guess the biggest problem is that I have no consistent way to punish wake up teleport. When I land a knockdown I usually go for a j.HP set up and option select run slide to catch him as he runs away, but half the time I run the wrong way > <

One OS U1 should stop him from teleporting when you have ultra stocked.

Other than that…That’s just how it goes with teleport punishing.

Hello All,

I have been having trouble with a couple different match ups.

First, Blankas…namely hopping crazy Blankas. I can never seem to do anything to prevent them from hoping around and then once they get meter it is all EX Balls. Any tops for dealing with Blanka?

Second, Abel. I thought I had the match down but lately I have been having issue dealing with them. What tips do you have against them?

Finally, “Jumpers”. When I say “Jumpers” I mean people who just jump + attack all the time. It seems like my leg grab gets stuffed unless it is an EX but since all they do is jump I can’t really build meter. I try air grab and get the same thing. I try cr + hp but it seems to whiff or lose a lot. Any tips?

Thanks

El Fuerte has several Anti-Air Options:

crHP
LK and EX Guac is what I have most success with out of the guacs
Air Throw
some air normals (check the fundamentals thread)
Q-bomb is good for Dive Kicks

And there’s one tool you’re likely forgettings: Run Back Tortilla. Tortilla got it’s invincibility back. So it’s once again the best command grab in the game, and is once again a VERY powerful anti air tool ESPECIALLY against an opponent whom has recklessly committed to a jump in against you while you’re standing and ready.

Relax on meter build. You’ll get meter. If the opponent wants to jump and attack all the time pay attention to the habits. if you feel you can read them, Air throw them down. If you wanna finally tell’em to sit the hell down EX guac is a perfect shut up tool. And Tortilla gets it done as well. Unless it’s on his wake up people really shouldnt be jumping in on Fuerte if you’re ready and understand their moves.

Abel hurts. Stay out of range of Step Kick at all costs. Throw him every time he wants to roll. Establish far HK. crHK is handy against him too. Run run run. If he starts dashing way too much smack him with a Qbomb to keep him honest.

Stay put against Blanka, Blanka balls suck. If he’s walking forward all he can do is Jump (Tortilla that shit) or Slide (Focus) or Poke (focus backdash). ALL Blocked Blanka Balls must be punished with run slide, you have to establish that he WILL be punished for it EVERY TIME.

Rainbow Balls: Don’t bother blocking it. Just Focus it. Dash towards him and hit him with Close HK xx Guac BEFORE he lands.

Focus on setting the pace in the match.

Thanks much for all the tips Densuo! I am watching/reading your guide to Elf you posted. I am gonna start hitting up training mode to practice all the tips here and in your guide. Gracias Amigo!

Question, What sound(s) does El Fuerte make when he does:

Everything when he runs
Everything when he wall dives.

Please respond

^ hit up training mode. Also depends if the Fuerte is Japanese or American.

So I’m having trouble with good Gen players. Gen is ridiculously dangerous with super and Ultra stocked. Both (super and ultra in the same combo) are comboable from his pokes. What I’ve been doing so far is poking and RSP-ing, which works ok.

When he runs he says 34 is freeee. When he wall jumps he says Dudley suuucks. Hope that helps.

El Furete is cheap. Unblockable grabs. overhead aerials. OTG, and he’s Mexican.

Which means Brock Lesnar can’t beat him.

Fajita off wall: Ha
run: Sah! / Hyah
Tostada off wall: Tostada Press
EX Run: fgajghakghewqlrg Dash!
