No matter how good he end up being with his rekka stuff, we’ll still suffer for a lot of time before we master him.
And there’s also the possibility that both the launcher and the character suck.

heh I try to remain hopeful!
I don’t because I’m gonna play him even if he’s the new Hsien Ko, but it would be nice if he was at least solid mid tier.
Not only was Wong using Fist, but two other brand new characters as well while Dios was using 2/3rds of his vanilla team and the hyper buffed Doom. His team was not built for synergy obviously and Iron Fist looks like he will take some time in the Danger Room to figure out how to best take advantage of situations. His launcher may not be good but he has a crumple and a wall bounce to mess around with. Time will tell but its not worth it to try to judge any thing now.
This right here, I mean I understand the whole playing to win mentality but c’mon man, unless Im mistaken they weren’t playing for anything and it was just for fun but homeboy went straight up old school with his team. Oh well, w/e makes you happy I guess.
@Jack_Lantern: That video is a terrible way to tell if he is gonna be viable or not, justin looked like that was the first time he was playing those characters(and honestly it probably was) whereas dios x was running with 2/3rd of his evo team. Honestly justin shoulda gone wolvie/iron fist/akuma on dios x. Plus justin was pretty much playing 1 on 3 since he doesn’t really know how any of them assists work and shit, iron fist might suck in the long run, but don’t use that video as a way to judge his tournament viability.
I mean justin didn’t even use any of his stance changes and shit.
In my opinion (which is not too educated) Iron Fist as AT LEAST looking as good as Ryu in Vanilla…
I think in time Iron Fist will become pretty damn good, with the right assists and people learning him.
It’s obvious that it’s not going to be an easy task getting in… I imagine Magneto is going to be hell, not looking forward to that match up at all.
The wavedash ignores the repulsah thing, and the disruptor is nerfed.
Doom and Dorm may be issues since both of them got beefed in the zoning dept.
Ghost Rider might also be a pain in his ass.
Whenever Wong managed to land a hit confirm with Iron Fist, he didn’t know how any effective b&bs and couldn’t finish his opponent off, not a surprise when he probably has spent minutes on that character. The more I see Iron Fist the more I think he’s going to be this game’s Sakura, you will spend the majority of your time with him getting outzoned and outpoked and you wouldn’t be able to land many hits with him, but that is made up by the sheer damage he does whenever he lands a hit. So playing him will require the same discipline that Sakura players require in AE.
Ok, so I was trying to sleep and started wandering about comboing without S, and actually it may end up not making a difference. His huge amount of rekkas will become an answer to every hit confirm.
When JWong picked up 2 characters but dropped because he tried to launch them he could have, after the hit confirm, done something like this:
hit confirm, LP rekka, HP rekka, dash, MK rekka, LK rekka, HK rekka cancel into air combo to get to the ground again, SP rekka, power up and spirit of the dragon.
And that’s something really rough because I don’t know how hit stun deterioration acts with each of his rekkas so I’m trying to keep it as short as possible.
Oh, saw the footage again and it was his mistake for doing the c. H, if he did the st. H he could have done a standard BNB using launcher and stuff.
It’s much like Iron Man’s c. H, you will want to get yourself used to NEVER using it.
EDIT: Later on he does get Doom in the air with Sentinel as well, so my previous post is still valid. Looks like he could have gone straight to the HK rekka to start air looping.
You could totally LK rekka out of it… I can see it having some uses, it not being terribly slow and his longest ranged low.
Didn’t think about that.
Another thing I was thinking while trying to sleep (DAMN I GOTTA SLEEP PLEASE DANNY LET ME) is that maybe the best way to end a rekka chain (assuming we’re limited to 3 rekkas per chain) is always doing the HK Rekka, because you can jump cancel out of it for an air combo if it hits and for a double overhead (or unblockable if you have a low assist) if the opponent block it. If you go like low, high, low you may end up opening your opponent, but so what? You’ll get like 70k damage and that’s it lol
By the way, awesome idea for how to name the various rekkas, it makes things a lot easier.
I think that the being good with him is going to be all about hitconfirming after the mixup. So something like :h:>LP>(LK or MK)>(HK on block, MP on hit)>combo or mixup.
Iron fist is just going to beat people with his dick.
The Danny hype train was just gettin’ some fuel, now it’s running full speed again!
And the beam assist seems even more important now, so it will also give you the chance to power up here and there, because if the guy isn’t right on the floor you won’t get a crumple to power up midway through.
If you think you are going to have trouble getting in, use Doom with missles assist. It pretty much makes everyone stop what they are doing to block. Until you get more comfortable with him, you can take other assists.
Dios-X playing his main team, Justin playing character’s he’s never touched before. I was shocked at how well it actually went for him.
Jesus christ though, that launcher.
That’d leave him pretty shit tier compared to the characters who don’t get outzoned or outpoked by much of anything but still have dat damage. I was sort of getting that ST honda vibe too though.
Hey guys, thanks for the input!
Watching the video again, it’s pretty clear that Justin didn’t even know the imput for each special move, since there was no low/high mixup with the different rekkas. Justin also insisted on using the launcher, which is clearly only meant to be used after a crumple ou other specific situations, given its terrible hitbox and inability to hit airborne opponents. It will be needed a good dose of muscle memory to avoid hitting the ground magic series and see it whiffing every time.
Well, my hopes for Danny are up again. Hype train to Space Raccoons Land is back at full speed.
