Good stuff. Shame about the airthrow whiff in the first round, i’m guessing the second one was a guess. Very nice use of c.MP to stop dive kick pressure, but to be honest i’m a little questioning of the decision to end his combo’s with slide. I just wonder if taking the gamble on the lower dmg from shoulder to push rufus to the corner might have been better. He doesn’t really have any easy outs. Still just theoryfighting really.
Anyways good guy play and it’s cool to see him getting use in the semi’s. There’s hope yet.
another thing was that he had wong standing on about 3 occations and he didn;t do FF target combo…which is weird, their more damaging and it’ll always throw them in the corner.
I will also agree that he would have been better off going for damage or push into the corner instead of going for the untechable knockdown and safe jumps. I was pretty shocked to see that first EX instant Izuna whiff, I mean, he was right in front of him.

Thanks for providing RB replays from Evo. I think RB shows some of the most impressive Guy play and being right up there (and maybe a bit above) Combofiend and other pros.
Looking at the RB vs Wong matchup:

At the 30 second mark RB fails to punish blocked EX messiah Kick. I was watching about half of Evo live (i live in europe) and since there are so many Rufus players from the US i thought i would have ample opportunities to see some great blocked EX messiah kick punish. Not really…
Going back to the match. I think RB was expecting a followup overhead after the EX messiah kick and thats why he jumped so he could throw him in the air… am i totally wrong about this?
Because if he thought this, i think Focus Attack would be better as if you do it right away you get a crumple from the overhead attack after blocked Ex messiah kick.
Since a lot of players play Rufus I really want to understand this, please correct me if im wrong. After blocked EX messiah kick Rufus has 4 options:
- Do nothing.
- Overhead
- Normal attack
- Low attack
Focus Attack beats 2-4 but gets you thrown i guess if Rufus opts for option 1.
Attacking with low frame startup move beats 1 but can be beat by 2-4 depending on your move.
From my understanding there is no 100% failsafe punish to EX messiah kick. I really hope I am wrong tho and someone will provide the correct answer.

If he does nothing, and blocks though you’ll get punished but It beats most options, in theory anyway,I haven’t tested it but I don’t see why not.
I’m not sure how safe the options are on block anyway, maybe you can just block and bushin chain or U2 or something.
i’m going to assume option #3 is rufus’s flip kick follow-up (the one that actually combos) to messiah kick.
if that’s the case, focus attack does not beat that option because flip kick is an armor breaking move.
the frame advantage / disadvantage of rufus’s options on block are:

[] -1 - overhead

moreover, the flip kick has some frames of invincibility, so in some cases, an immediate EX hurricane will lose to it. you also have to keep in mind that rufus players can slightly delay the execution of the follow-up.
the other two follow-ups, sweep and overhead, are safe on block.

ryan does a really nice reset at the end with cl. fierce xx run stop … cr. short etc etc. i honestly think that’s guy’s best choice as a reset after ff chain throw. this st. jab… dash reset i see fail miserably over and over. the only other person i’ve seen do cl. fierce xx run stop is kiryu. who followed it up with cr. fierce… st. strong etc.

if i recall correctly cr.jab x st.strong xx ex tatsu only does like <10 more damage then regular forward tatsu right? i see a lot of people doing this but i don’t know why…
As someone who’s just getting back into the scene, thanks for posting the vids, I really enjoyed them. It seemed (at least to my untrained eye) that you were both pretty good and closely matched.

If I had a capture card I’d upload some matches I had against a DMG member (Inthuls team), but whatevs. They were very close, I just made some foolish mistakes. His Blanka went on a 10-0 win streak in a lobby with me and Egotism

One thing to say is try not to get too comfortable with hit-confirming into TC off of two jabs/shorts. It whiffs a lot character wise, more so due to range. I would just run/slide off the st.mp.
