I think they are more pointing out that sales on digital is kinda rare (at least in the console space) and its only sales. There is never a price reduction.

All they see is how much they are saving on their end.
I really don’t see why games can’t be like movies and give you a disc + digital copy. It would be a nice bonus for pre-order/buying new and then it would give some incentive to buy brand new vs waiting for a sale.
They could be, but that would be a loss for them. Also, with the continued transition to digital that consumers are showing they don’t really need much incentive. Digital sales grow every year, and that will probably only continue.
The only reason Sony is even doing a digital only version is because from 2018-2019 fiscal year digital sales on PlayStation were over 50%. So it’d be stupid of them not to take advantage of that knowledge

Normally, I go to either GameStop or Best Buy to get a console. I haven’t decided what to do for PS5 or Series X, but it’s looking like I may use Amazon for the first time to potentially order a PS5 digital edition.
