That works. I don’t want to give the wrong impression on new players who may want to try out Tournaments. And as social gatherings of nerds, yeah you’re going to find like minded people within the games you play and befriend them. So saying don’t make friends is also a fallacy. People were jerks in the old days, and you wanted to beat them. People are jerks now and get money and infamy for it, helping OP look up how much a jerk FPChamp is beyond his currently known things is stream monster stuff, old stuff I don’t pay attention to anymore. Or an example during a stream by someone who doesn’t seem to play offline even knew: Pyrolee is the nicest guy when not in a Tournament, then he kills you in game.
But I considered this topic going out in a lock anyway, as something similar happened with weirdoes after my last post in a topic right before this post. I was quicker to hurry up and make the Dev Best Ult Tech Talk- forum topic joke than explain “jerk” going to beat you. There is a ‘Tournament mode’ in experienced players to get serious and turn it on when the stakes require it, harder to explain than just saying they are tough to crack. They will be a jerk in the sense of abusing whatever they can to beat you, its fair game to do so.
Answered that, no need to retread, top of the world SF2 Scene, SF3, no scene:
@ the Next level, NicaKO Ranbats, July 27 Friday, TOMORROW the next one.
Your Next post right into gameplay stuff, no matter me olive branch or not ambassador type stuff, but yeah look that over again for SF3 Tournament news.
Your guesses/assumptions of me just got you blown up in a game where you don’t want to guess parry. Our scenes are going to align soon via Capcom throwing cash around, while we all try to get any new players to play a purer game in Arcade / GGPO emulated Arcade. Best of luck to you guys.
Not surprising at all. Look at the Mike Ross v. FC Jago fiasco. That “feud” was obviously arranged from the beginning alongside evidence from Sabin of them talking about it during that shitty Cross Assault show. Afterwards they laughed it off and said that they were just doing it for fun.
But let’s be real here. They created fake hype surrounding themselves to build up interest in their personas, and thus, got more people interested in watching their shows, and without doubt buying up their shirts an dvds and whatever else they want to peddle. Somebody made money from that fake hype, doesn’t matter if it went to their sponsors or the players themselves, and they laughed it off like it was a big joke. E-sports.
I probably mis-spoke when I said, “Don’t make friends”. What I should’ve clarified is that making friends should not be your sole goal, and the the primary reason that you’re putting in all this work and attending all these tournaments is to level up your game and become a solid player. Some people literally just hang out in the FGC to make friends while letting their skills as a player fall by the wayside. You can be friends outside of the game, but in tournament, every single person should be considered the enemy.
Good find on those old posts. I honestly don’t remember your response to my post, and again, what I said back then mostly stemmed from conversations I’ve had with 3s players. It seems like both scenes seem to be suffering from the same issue of not having accessible setups that will satisfy the players, this is especially true with those weird suicide batteries that 3s boards seem to have. There’s supposedly one or two specialists around the world that can fix that issue, but it costs an arm and a leg.
What I’m happy about, is that the ToL at Evo seems to have inspired a lot of people to step their game, and really try to bring back these old, hardcore, classic fighting games that have so much depth to them, but not a large enough player base and following to shoot it to the spotlight.
Hopefully this Capcom throwing money around is going to breathe some life in these games. I know 3SOE wasn’t the arcade-perfect port of 3s that you guys wanted, but it’s a damn sight better than what the ST guys want to use. It doesn’t help that Capcom is using the PS3 version of HDR, which has already has people irritated. Either way, now is the time to bring out all the players from our respective scenes to support these Capcom tournaments.
I can tell lol. I mean I think we need more F. Champs out there. Too many people are likeable and that makes people want to be friends instead of another top player to beat. We get some more champs out there, people will have that killing edge back.
“Playing the heel” doesn’t necessarily have to mean “being a dick”. Justin Wong used to be one of the most hated guys in MvC2 and 3rd Strike just because of his playstyle and the fact that he won so many tournaments with it. He took it all in stride though, and he even played it up sometimes because he thought it’d make it interesting. He’s reportedly a nice guy though, and it’d be hard to hate on his character without making up some BS stories. He just played super lame and that was good enough to vilify him.
