I need some help choosing a proc/mobo:

I’ve recently gotten a bonus at work at it would cover the bulk of an upgrade. Should I go with an i5 for the 1150 socket or an i7 for the same socket? The difference in price is about $100 for the low-end i7 but it’s pretty buff. That said, what motherboard should I get with it?

Fuck, what’s up with the low-end voltage requirements for RAM for the i7 CPUs? Most DDR3 runs at 1.65v and these CPUs maximum RAM voltage is 1.5v? Kinda bullshit is that.

I guess I could go into the BIOS and limit RAM voltage but that shit be dangerous as fuck. WHY THE FUCK CAN’T TECHNOLOGY COMPANIES JUST MAKE THIS FUCKING EASY TO DO.

I doubt you’ll ever do anything that requires an i7. I still suggest the i5-4670k processor, probably one of the best i5’s you can get, and benchmarks put it close to a lot of the i7’s on the market.

I paired it up with an Asus H81M-A mobo, which supports USB 3.0 as well.

What’s the cost of that off the top of your mind? I’d check myself but I’m on the can.

lol you’re able to check out forums but can’t go google some prices?

mobo cost me about 50 I think, should still be in that range

i5-4670 is roughly $200, i5-4670k is roughly $300, but usually under $300.

I checked out that ASUS board. I need something a bit more beefy. I’d like 4 RAM slots instead of two and higher RAM capacity. USB 3.1 slots would be nice but I’m find with 3.0. I only have one graphics card but it’s a big one, so I’ll need space for that along with my sound card, wireless LAN card, etc.

just get two 8 gig sticks of ram, you ain’t gonna run more than 16gb of ram. You gonna run Windows 10?

I’m thinking about getting this router

It sounds awesome!

$200 for a fucking router.
Jesus Christ I could get high for 3 month for that money.

lol none of that will matter if you use during peak hours, or if your ISP decides to fuck with your bandwidth.

I paid $200 for a router before and I was happy with it. I like routers that let me do a bunch of shit with it.

I want it to filter stuff on the router level. I hate having to play Brazilians and Euros who ain’t from the UK.

Going to Windows 10 in 5 years isn’t an improbability. Also, SFV alone takes 8GB of RAM. That’s nuts. I don’t wanna be left in the dirt if another SF comes out with 32 GB of RAM needed.

Just got a new computer. Life is good when your OS is on an SSD.

@Raz0r - Don’t fret too much about recommended specs. If Capcom optimizes the game well enough, they will be a joke.

My 4 year old computer runs Mad Max at high settings without a hassle, and it’s specs are below minimum.

I was thinking this motherboard with an i5-4690K for future overclock purposes. What do you think?

samsung unveiled a 4tb SSD last month.

lol I don’t even need a 4TB HDD.

I just built my first PC and took this route- needless to say, the difference is huge.

Wait, this MSI mobo looks much better. Thoughts?

@Shaft Agent can you go over some of your case build methods? I’ve been wanting to get into case design, but haven’t had much luck beyond modding existing cases. What tools do you use and how much success could I have without access to a metal shop?

If you have an old PC lying around with two PCI slots, you can turn that into a better router.
