That was the complaint I heard the most, so I avoided the game.
I enjoyed Xtreme, which is basically the same game but slightly faster and more retarded plot (but it’s a JPRG. No such thing as good plots on those). I remember being told you can stun lock the final boss, which sounds really lame. If Hard Mode is actually hard, I’m down in getting it. Thanks for the heads up.
Burn it in to make sure it’s stable. Cooler Master 212 is the best bang for buck air cooler on the market. Get some Arctic Cooling MX-2 or MX-4 thermal grease (skip MX3, it could not out perform MX-2) and you’ll be good to go.
BUT A BIT OF A FAIR WARNING, DON’T FUCKIN’ BUY IT RIGHT NOW!!
Steam version is fucked, it’s missing a lot of files. Crashes every where. Game is a total of 1.9 GB, yet Steam version only offers 250 MB of the files. They need some fixing to do, so hold up. If you want the full version, get the GoG which is the entire game.
Eh, they renamed it AE because it’s actually not very “HD remaster” at all. And I think it still plays in 4:3 aspect. Ohwell, still love the game and will buy for the harder difficulty option.
From what I’m reading on the Steam forum it’s a port of the Dreamcast version with better visuals and gameplay and keyboard support. Seems they didn’t take anything from the original PC port.
I already have those emulated. Not enough offered to make me pay $15. There are only so many times I can buy the same games over and over again before I’m just gonna emulate that shit.
I dunno how many times I’ve thought about picking up a PSP or something, and getting the remakes of FFIV, only to just end up booting up zsnes and emulating it instead.
I’ve read this had something to do with the distribution service on Steam’s part. It didn’t last very long after release anyway.

[] 4:3 Aspect Ratio, which is fair enough since it’s an old game. Widescreen mod could be likely given the how beloved the game is.
[] Only slight touches to graphics, not a full scale remaster. Hence, why they dropped the HD from the title and went with Anniversary Edition instead. (FMV’s got no love for example, modders might be able to get something going with time)
[] Hard mode is just a flat 20% increase in monster HP
[] A bug where if you talk to the tutorial guy affects how monster AI behaves in battle by using the only one move. Will also affect another key plot point battle that soft locks the game, preventing you from progressing. Resetting is the only solution, outside of a patch (which devs are aware of).
[] Small graphical glitch in one of the starting area of the game. Texture for the pavement on the walkway, gets mixed up with one of your character depending on your screen position. (Was kinda funny to see actually lol)
[] Reports of audio glitches in certain places. BGM’s not looping as well like the original for example. May also have shit being louder/softer than it’s suppose to be maybe.
[] Reports of poor sample rate on sound files - ( could potentially replace with lossless version in the file directory however )
[] Game assets are apparently fairly easy to replace. Opens door to high res texture mods.
[] Uses same save file type as DC VMU. Can transfer DC save files over if you really wanted to.
[] 1080p is max res. Able to edit the game’s ini file for higher res. People will probably make mods for widescreen, higher res, and HD GUI’s eventually.
[] Another bug where you if mash on the post battle screen too fast, you lose out on your special and magic coin battle rewards (what you use to power up your magic and special moves). XP is unaffected I think.
[] Devs are keeping tabs on the bugs noted so far, which is a good sign I guess. No word on when or how likely a patch is due though (as far as I’m aware anyway).

I told myself that I’d probably wait till the bugs and shit get ironed out first before buying it. I had that purist mindset where if it wasn’t 100% perfect like the DC version, I shouldn’t reward them for a shit job. I caved in after watching Spooky play through the damn game though lol. That damn nostalgia was just too strong and got the better of me lol. Game seemed playable and close enough to what I remembered anyhow. There wasn’t anything game breakingly obvious from what I saw and most of the downfalls were minor audio and aesthetic stuff (while a slight bummer, hopefully shouldn’t be too hard to fix).
