Yep. Valve did not think this through. Waaaaay too many legal challenges (which came about when this popped up) as well as the modders who did put up the paid stuff weren’t getting paid… anything (unless if said mod were to make what, $400 bucks?)
Even worse, most of the stuff that FLOODED the mod marketplace was rehashed/stolen from other people’s mods, and those who had said mods that were originally free wound up taking them down.
Hey, Valve took something that was free(weapon skins that I would make for free in Photoshop) and made a monopoly out of it in Team Fortress 2and CS:GO. Not surprised they had the balls to pull the pay 4 mods thing(which actually would have been a huge negative for PC gaming as a whole, which is why I’m glad the community struck down the idea as fast as they did.)
Balls deep into AoW3 again… Eternal Lords expansion is great.
Still the best 4x game I’ve played in years. Especially since Worlds of Magic bombed so bad and had all the promise of being a true MoM successor. But it’s ok since AoW3 is more than fantastic.
Skyrim is already pushing on three and a half years old. People who are still playing will either A. Love it and love the community and won’t mind paying for mods. B. Love it, but will be so set in their ways that paying for mods is unthinkable.
The precedent is interesting though. I wonder what other games could support paid mods. Maybe a minecraft style game. Or a Day Z clone of some sorts. The next Elder Scrolls game will probably be monetized to hell.
But at the same time, I can see the community rejecting it. Maybe a “pay what you want” system where you can send a small kickback to the creators, but it is hard to see the PC gaming community suddenly paying for something that has traditionally been free.
I buy quite a bit of PC games, and I don’t even mind paying for DLC if it is quality, but when companies try the nickle and dime approach for all of their content I think I might as well buy it on console. Most mods tend to just be fun things to do to a game, not really something I would pay money for.
People can say whatever they want about the Mass Effect series (part 3 was ass), but no one can disagree that the Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC is the best DLC I’ve played in any game by far.
At that point you should just be buying a console+Gamefly for the big titles, and a cheaper PC if you really wanted the free to play/budget games.
Every company like Alienware is charging you for not knowing computers, and they’re charging you a LOT. Which means you also don’t know much about proper consumer practices.
The Star Wars sale on Steam is really good. Jedi Knight games(the GOAT Star Wars games) and the Dark Forces series. B)
I can’t get a Chroma 2 case to save my life. Got a few vanilla Chroma cases but they’re practically worthless now. Grinding Gear Games won’t send me a beta key for Path of Exile Act IV either. I really want to try it.
@HeaT I want to play a wacky melee build before the new act hits. What are some awesome sword/dagger/dual-whield builds right now? I have two 300+ PDPS swords and daggers available to me, some good shields, two 6-link pre-nerf Lightning Coils, Soul Taker, pre-nerf Bringer of Rain, and just good melee gear in general. Best I did before I stopped was kill vanilla Aztiri(which wasn’t the cleanest of kills, I died a few times.)
i think a crit based dagger reave is really good. would work well with acrobatics and lightning coil. you could also try some sort of static strike build but most i am aware of use 2 handers, but you could try to work some magic with dual wielding. i would wait until the new act is released though to start something, cause whatever you will start now will radically change when the new act drops. they released supporter packs today with beta key access, cheapest one is 30$. info on divination cards was also given today, pretty interesting.
