Wouldn’t a 256bit memory bus be a little bit small for a 4GB card? Nvidia purposely holding back the full potential for both cards?
I also wonder what the price difference will be for the 980 and 970. Wouldn’t be surprised if you had to pay an extra $160 for the higher clock rate and extra cuda cores.
Word is that the memory bus is handled more efficiently, so 256 bit is supposed to be fine. But yeah they are definitely holding back for those ti models.
That being said, I’m in the market to buy one.
Prices are $329 for 970, $549 for 980. This also drops the 760 down to $219. Reference models are all a bit cheaper.
Edit: the benchmarks on the 970 will make it easily the best performance/dollar. Thing is pretty beast.

Sold out on amazon already…
This is insanely tempting to get right now and build towards my new desktop after being stuck with a gtx 320m for the last 4 years
$329 is kiiinda pushing a budget build (i think), but that value…
While $219 for a 760 sounds great. ASJSIOQJSIOKAJS
I CANT CHOOSE.
If you can spring it, go 970. Will crush multi platform games this generation. The 760 at that price IS great value though

if you’re getting a new gpu just get that 970, because at least if you want to upgrade you can go sli which would be cheaper and probably more powerful than 980ti
Alright then thanks guys, now to find out a solid build that isn’t too expensive and see how much value i can squeeze out. Have to get a new monitor with it too so that’ll probably cut into my budget aughhhh.
card art for Harrison Jones from shit hearthstone/WoW TCG
His facial expression is pretty appropriate considering what he does ingame.

this should make your choice as clear as possible
At half the price of a GeForce GTX 780 Ti, the GeForce GTX 970 can tempt you into buy a pair of them. With Ultra HD monitors dropping below the $500 mark, a playable Ultra HD gaming PC under $2000 suddenly sounds realistic. Here's why spending 3...
or harder hahahahahahahahaaaaa
and now my avatar is appropriate for what i’m seeing here.
I just have to worry about CPU and the rest of the build.
I wish they had them at gamestop now. I have been sitting on gift cards for a while. They sell gtx 770 but no word of they will pick up the new models
You have a Gamestop that sells graphic cards? I didn’t know they did.
They sell gtx 660, 760 and 770. They have little cards in the stores next to pc download cards
Yo, they sell used video cards?
No used cards, unfortunately.
I should also clarify that when you buy one in store, they ship it to you. They don’t carry pc inventory in stores.

this is taken from reddit for people who are still a bit confused about the Oculus Rift
I’ve been playing E:D for a few weeks using my Rift DK2, but I’m in-between GPUs right now, my 980 is getting delivered on Tuesday, but I offloaded my 780 already.
So I decided to give E:D a go on my laptop in regular flat-screen mode. My laptop is a new MBP with the 750M GPU and is not quite powerful enough for E:D on the rift comfortably, but I can play the game on my 27" Monitor well enough.
Backing up a bit, when I first tried E:D in the Rift I was totally amazed by the immersion (I’m not sure I ever achieved presence), but the feeling of depth and scale, the way the world seemed to wrap around me brought a new dimension to the experience.
Back to my non-Rift experience. I loaded up the game and straight away everything felt distant. Not large, just not real, as if I was experiencing the environment through a third-person. I was sitting in the hangar and I couldn’t get a feeling that I was inside a spaceship at all.
I un-docked from Eranin and departed the space station. I couldn’t get a feeling that I was actually flying out into space, or a sense of scale of the opening to the station. I had very little sense of what was happening around me, or really where my ship was in relation to the opening. Was I too far to the opening wall? Up? Down?
I hyperdrived to iBootis (I was planning on selling some liquor on the back market) and although the station looked pretty, a lot prettier than in the Rift, I didn’t get any feeling of it’s immense size. I docked cold to avoid scanning, but it felt mechanical, like I was following a process rather than actually actually smuggling. I sold my liquor and exited the game.
In summary; I am pretty sure at this point that I’m never playing Elite: Dangerous outside of the rift again, It’s an amazing experience, and I just can’t care about it on a flat screen anymore. For me, the DK2, even with it’s screen-door effect, black smearing, and other foibles has improved at least this one game (probably HL2 also) to the point that I can’t play without it. Whatever the CV1 is, however much of an improvement it is over the DK2, I already know it’s going to be enough for me.
I’m just messin’, I’d never buy used computer parts.
The only “used” parts I buy is from a friend who works for a computer manufacturer, and once the specific hardware is done being manufactured, I get it “used” for 85% off. And they used the term used as in, never been package at all, but had it been package, you’ll see that shit sitting up on Best Buy. So, I dunno how it’s not brand new, shit is brand new new, or brand brand new, or… fuck I dunno.

and this is taken from a PCGamer article talking about the prototype for the consumer version of the Rift
Presence
As soon as I put on Crescent Bay to experience a series of about 10 one-minute demos, I bought into Oculus’ talk about presence. It’s a difficult sensation to describe, but if you’ve used an earlier version of the Rift you may be able to imagine it.
When you wear DK2, it’s rare for you to feel like you’re really there. Mostly, it feels like playing a video game in a really, really cool way, but you remember you’re sitting in a chair, holding a controller, and you can see the edges of the screen projected in front of you. The “screen door effect” in DK2 is much improved over DK1, but it’s still there, since only 960x1080 pixels are projected in front of each eye. Your head movements are tracked, but you can’t turn all the way around or stray too far from looking straight ahead. At the best moments, like when you’re jamming on the thrusters in Elite Dangerous and locked onto an enemy fighter’s tail, you may experience that rare slip into feeling complete immersion.
Crescent Bay is like that immediately, but better. You’re there.
I have 0 hype for Oct Rift, but I do enjoy the benefits it has to offer in terms of the medical field (such curing fear of heights and what not).
Other than that, I want to get involved a porn game and jump on that bandwagon once Oct Rift is release. Top 10 sellers will all be porn games.

Gamestop sells video cards? The fuck? The PC section of any Gamestop I’ve been to was always terrible. They can’t sell used PC games(CD KEYS!) so the selection of games was always garbage.
