The PC gaming Thread. Steam/GOG/Origin/Etc. Game/Software/Hardware talk

So I beat Darksiders, fun game, worth every penny. Not I’m playing Darksiders II and…man, they upped the production values. Tons of items, armor, and weapons to choose from, a more robust form of currency, an level up system, a more open world…yes, bigger and better applies.

So far, I’m pleased.

I considered picking that up, but I realized I have other ARPGs that I haven’t finished still.

Alright, been playing HotS for a few days now, I can give you my impressions. I’ve been playing LoL since Beta, which is where my Moba experience comes from.

  • Game is massive, massive amounts of fun. Straight up, get some friends, and smash some face, it’s a good time.

  • The universal leveling is a double edged sword. One game I went 15-0, but I never felt ‘strong’ like you do when you carry in other games, on the other hand, in games where you are getting stomped, you never feel useless either.

  • No items is really not that much of an issue, considering the game features an extensive talent tree. The talents actually make quite a huge deal in how you build your hero. Going tank Stiches vs Poison Gas cloud Stiches makes you play different.

  • Balance is all over the place, but it’s an alpha, so its not a big deal.

  • For an unfinished game, it’s really well polished. The things that needs the most work is the menus and the extra fluff, but the core game is really good.

  • If you want a basic feeling, it’s like LoL without the pre level 5, and a much more aggressive focus on objectives.

  • Some of the heroes are quite weird and different. The Murloc is a strange beast unto himself. On the other hand, Jim Raynor is possibly the most boring MOBA hero ever made. In general, the more popular or famous the hero, the easier they are to play.

  • I’ve heard people say the game is ‘skillless’ or that you can’t tell the difference between skilled and unskilled players. This is a bunch of nonsense. Some MOBA skills (last hitting, denying, itemisation) are gone, but there are a host of new things to learn, that mostly revolve around teamwork.

  • In fact, I’d say that’s the core game. The whole game is about teamwork from the ground up.

So basically if you solo queue the game your gonna have a bad time

Yeah, I just downloaded it two days ago, and for a first person shooter that’s free, it’s pretty well done. I enjoy the game a lot, and I’m probably gonna be playing it a good bit.
I just hate it when motherfuckers don’t have/don’t use their mics…

When you solo queue and get matched with a partied duo on your team vs 5 coordinated on the other team, and the person on your team playing the free hero of the week for the first time… yeah : /

Though theres currently no ranked, just unranked, to test matchmaking. You have an internal MMR so it tries to balance the games, but with the small player pool its not always possible. A lot of new players with experience from other MOBAs jump in, play with entirely new players, and get turned away. You can always tell when new invites go out because in come the ragers. Generally its pretty welcoming.

They also have an easy party system, where you can get a group of 5 organized pre game and choose heroes accordingly. So yes, queuing is best, but I typically just solo queue and let it rock

Hate buying computer parts, I know as soon as i buy something, in a couple days its gonna go on sale or im gonna get some kinda 20% off promo code from newegg.

damn, how I was I supposed to log onto steam this morning, see Tomb Raider for 4.99 and come away NOT buying it?..always wanted to play it when I was a console gamer…but not 50 bucks bad enough…or 40 or whatever so called sales price that wasnt 5 dollars…yeah…it always looked fun…

Steam giveaway #4 is up on PCGamer if anyone wants Gun Monkeys for free.

This promotion is currently serving the maximum allowed number of users. Please check back in a minute.

Dammit.

Sounds about right for what I’ve heard about HotS. As someone who actually enjoys asserting themselves during that early laning phase, and knowing that it’s basically not there in any form, idk how I feel about it. If they ever give me a damn code I’ll still try it, but I’m starting to think they were right to insist on not calling it a MOBA.

ps Dawngate tho

My gut says to stick with Nvidia this time…gonna get the GeForce 760.
It should last a couple of years.

I’m an idiot for even using AMD’s shitty CPU’s :wasted:

The* biggest metaphorical double-edged sword there is.

Or worse…
It finally goes on sale, you purchase it. 48 hours after the sale, the product becomes out of stock, and a more advance/improved version of the item becomes available at the exact same price.

I gave up on waiting for better parts and work with what my mama gave me.

& sure enough today i check pcpartpicker and ncixus have the same CPU i bought earlier today from newegg, 30 dollars cheaper. Only thing that’s keeping me sane right now is that ncixus has a warehouse in texas so sales tax would have raped me like Tigerdirect tries to do. 16 - 20 dollars in sales tax…im not about that. Can’t wait till im done building this shit lool.

who the hell is the girl in your avatar?
is she famous or something?

Looking forward to this game.

Sadly, the trailers don’t really do much to describe the game.

Basically, each scenario, whether you’re a terrorist trying to calm down hostages, or a captive being tortured for information, you have a set amount of Action Points to resolve each scenario. Depending on your actions can alter the amount of AP obtain for said scenario in trying to help settle the matter. There are several ways to go about said situation, but some are a lot more difficult than they seem.

Game is entertaining, with some scene that are rather gruesome, but get away with it due to pixel art.

Sounds very interesting, and it doesn’t hurt that the art style reminds me a little of “Beneath a Steel Sky”, which I have fond memories of.
