Sweet, thank you. I’ll check that out and come back if I have any questions.
Alright, so far it’s looking like I’ll probably pick up most of the parts he reccomends in that video.
Only pieces that will be different are the case and the power supply. Do you guys think these will work?
Edit: I used PC part picker and it seems all these parts should work just fine. I think I’m gonna go ahead with this.
What processor and motherboard did you end up with?
These:
Not bad. I just did a simular build for a friend (got the 2600X instead) and he seemed pretty happy with it. If you want an idea of how games will run I did some benchmarks with it. https://youtu.be/XRJ-vAGiljw
DMCV looking sweet on that thing. I’m hoping I can get similar performance.
Edit: Damn, Witcher in 60FPS huh. You think my build would be capable of that?
The Ryzen 2600 and 1600 are pretty close in performance so you should be able to run everything the same. I left the setting pretty high in all of the games I tested so you can just turn effects off and get way better performance.
Ordered my 5700 XT last night from newegg so it should arrive later this week, hopefully Wednesday the earliest. I would have just picked it up at microcenter, but I specifically wanted the Sapphire Nitro+ version and since everyone is getting their stimulus check, it sold out pretty quick.
My stuff from Newegg is being delivered tomorrow. Also have grandkids over visiting, and my grandson kept calling me for like an hour straight.
His punishment? Playing games on Stadia
Which state you live in so I can report you for abuse?
So, I got my stuff from Newegg. Everything works except the Memory. Well, it works; but at 2667mhz. It’s a 3200mhz kit, so I may be looking at a motherboard upgrade very soon.
Yeah, the memory in my recent build is slightly under-clocked too. I’ll need to screw around more setting the voltages manually until I find another island of stability, but honestly even under-clocked the system is crushing everything I’m currently asking it to do.
Probably won’t try to push it higher again until I’m playing Cyberpunk.
Couple questions as a new PC builder, maybe ya’ll can help.
-
I downloaded the Windows 10 ISO to a thumb drive. This is all I need to install the OS on my new PC, correct? I just plug it in and I should be able to boot the ISO into the installation process from the BIOS, as far as I can tell.
-
Any settings you guys think I should alter once I set everything up and access the bios? Like overclocking, ect.
-
What do you guys reccomend for anti virus software, if at all? I could use some free AND paid alternatives, if ya’ll don’t mind. If there’s nothing for free that will actually be effective in protecting my PC, I’d rather just go paid.
-
The installation media you made should make your pc boot straight to it when you turn the thing on. Just follow the instructions that come up and you’ll be good. I highly recommend putting your OS on a SSD if you haven’t already bought one.
-
All I’d change would be setting your RAM speed to what it’s rated for, maybe an XMP profile for the RAM.
-
Windows defender with basic Malwarebytes Free for a second scan option.
I’m seeing a lot of people go through an installation process to put the OS onto the actual thumb drive, but when I went to the Microsoft webpage the other day they straight up just have you download an ISO, so I’m a little confused. I should maybe preface this with the fact that I’m trying to set up this thumb drive through a Chromebook.
Thanks for the response to my other two questions tho.
The Microsoft website asks you how you gotta install the OS. Your given an media tool install if you plan on using an thumbdrive for installation.
I think the problem might be my Chromebook. When I visit the website through it, I only see an option to download an ISO. I think it wants me to view it on a windows OS to allow the actual installation of the OS to the thumb drive… Just speculating tho.
But, are you guys saying I won’t be able to just boot this ISO off the thumb drive?
You’ll need a Windows PC to make the ISO and install it.
Woke up this morning to a straight fucked install of Windows. Had to invoke my backups for the first time in a very long time, luckily they were 2 weeks behind and nothing was gone. I finished that process about 30 minutes ago. Had to get Windows up and working to do client work today.
