*The "padhacking" thread*

Dang, you could really trim down those new Madcatz pad PCBs. Now I’m really, really kicking myself for not buying one I saw a week ago.

The TE PCB looks like that, but trimmed down, and a little more complex because of the options. Has anyone bothered to post an image of that?

I really don’t feel like waiting a month to do another search, but can someone post up or PM the link to the Xbox headset extension cord? I’m seeing some on Google, but I’d rather use a source you guys know about.

Also, can someone pass some links to trusted sites where I can get some DSUB connectors, preferably ones where the cord can be covered and secure at the soldering points? Thanks guys.

wont the audio cables on monoprice.com work? Under audio, you want the 2.5 headphone jack extension.

Now if somebody could explain to me how the 3-position switch (LS/DP/RS) works, so that I can wire this PCB to a PS3 TE stick, I will be in heaven!

No longer relevant see new post further down

This is a noob question but will a JLF joystick work on a Mad Catz xbox 360 controller (late)? Like, taking the ground wire from the JLF stick and putting it on the PCB of mad catz?

Or would I have to tweak the JLF? I read somewhere earlier about switching the pcb from the JLF and order a different one from lizardlick… :shake: I’m confused heh.

Guys, thanks heaps for the info re the JLF. I’m completely new to this though, so does anyone have any hires pics etc of a JLF showing me what is meant by “cutting the traces”? I understand the concept, but how do you actually do it? What tool do you use? How likely is it that I’ll break the PCB? It’s the difference between buying the JLF local immediately or waiting for a JLW from overseas (I’m in Australia) so using the JLF would be awesome if I could feel confident on how to mod for no common ground.

Thanks again guys for helping a newbie out!

You pull the restrictor plate off the bottom of the JLF and you’ll find a PCB with four switches. It comes right out. Flip it over and you’ll see this.

Cut along the red lines with a hobby knife or a razor blade; deep enough to cut through the copper trace. Then solder a separate wire to each of the blue points. Those will be your ground connections.

To use the black wire on the wiring harness for one of the switches like TheGlow said, don’t cut or solder anything around the leftmost switch in the picture. The black wire will be the ground for that switch.

Accceptablerisk, thank you very much for taking the time to answer my questions & provide such helpful responses. I appreciate the effort. Thanks to you I’m now @ the point where I’m 100% happy with this aspect of making my own custom stick… Now to worry about making the box…

Yeah, I just need a soldering diagram for this thing and find a box source to move forward

I was thinking about what to do for the headphone jack as well.
I have the little extension cords from the rockband set. I may just plug one in and then just use that and put a lil hole for it to stick out.

TheGlow, have you considered a wireless headset?

Wireless headsets are awesome, but it doesn’t hurt to include a jack in your custom stick either.

True.

Help Requested…

I’m going to be dual PCB. I ordered Toodles Cthulhu PCB for setting up the PS3 side.

For the 360, I picked up the same Madcatz arcade stick.

From what I can gather regarding getting the LT/RT triggers to work on the 360 pad, if you connect with just resistors, the buttons will work fine on the 360 but screw with the other PCB if I switch to PS3 mode.

So in order to get the 8 button set up to work on both systems, you need to connect a diode?

I’ve also read that the L2/R2 buttons (which will share the RT/LT on the 360 side) should be grounded separately.

Bpd115 it has been a while since I connected a Madcatz 360 PCB and a PS3 PCB (you can see the details in the link in my sig), but yes, that’s how I remember doing it: with a resistor and diode per trigger button.

Hell no, costs way to much. And I usually only use a headset to chat with friends when playing different games and what not.
I figure I have 2 options, 1 I can just use one of the wires from the rock band kit. I can put a lil hole, put it through than only worry about it being pulled out, which ill just hot glue the inside. Or get a headphone jack from radio shack and wire that up somehow. I think ill just do the rock band wire.

Ok, heres my new post, i got rind of the last one since it was kinda vague and silly

I now have in my posession, this

http://www.slagcoin.com/joystick/pcb_diagrams/360_diagram1.jpg

A late version 360 Wired pad.

I know im gonna have to clean up the points as the solder points are hidden at the moment due to some black stuff on them(the ones on the front)

but am i right in assuming this pad has 1 common ground for everything? Like, all the face buttons and direction pad are all red… so their grounds are the same, i can daisy chain a single wire for all of there grounds and only solder one end to the pcb?!

aside from that im just going to need some help with the triggers and how they work.

Thanks!

Mission complete. Id like to think I did ok for a first time. I think I fried a usb hub on my pc, but thats not important.

are those the green sanwa parts? awesome, thats what i just ordered. Looks very stylish man! hope it works half as good as it looks!
