The Outrageous Newbie Thread (ASK YOUR QUESTIONS HERE)

Soo are rolls on wakeup actually punishable? I heard that they have 0 frames of recovery.

Rolls have 0 recovery frames, so it’s not punishable. But as mentioned a lot of times regarding this: They are not free get away tools, because you can position yourself on the screen to react to rolls or normal techs, and keep pressure that way. You don’t get free jump in pressure, and you might need to let your opponent wake up without guaranteed meaty pressure, but you still have an advantage on the wake up game as the one standing. Also, after rolling, there seem to be a very strict reversal window, so to roll and wake up with an uppercut to beat a meaty, you need to do the reversal within a 1-2 frame window (Don’t quote me on specifics regarding this though.

It depends on if you roll past your opponent and by how much. Sometimes you need to mash the wrong direction for an autocorrect, otherwise it won’t come out. There isn’t a smaller reversal window.

That does make sense yes! And just to point it out for the guys asking; it won’t say “reversal” on the screen even if you do a reversal out of a roll.

Hey i am probably the worst Street fighter x tekken player in the world so could someone teach me how to play Lili/Ryu/Nina i just need some tips i play with a keyboard on PC tell me if i need a gamepad or fightstick i just havent thought about getting one but i need recomendations // regards Smokeyz

Oh gee, this thread is great. Learning so much, too bad I suck and I can’t really offer feedback. The counter-Kazuya stuff has been helpful, that character is so irritating. He has an overhead in a combo/hitconfirm right? I always get raped by that, I played a fair amount of KoFXIII so I’m not a total noob but apparently I am. Just not used to it I guess, (1st time playing a SF title). In KoFXIII you have your normals and unique moves, some unique moves can have an overhead property but once you link it in a combo LP, HP, f.HP (unique move), special .etc it loses it’s overhead. Just used to that game mechanic also I need to learn the overhead moves for all the characters again.

“teach you how to play” is too general to really be able to give you solid advice, but for starters I would watch videos of people using your character in the replay channel or on youtube. Then, learn how to use training mode and practice all of your moves and simple combos until you can do them on command. Next, try and play the game by being patient and waiting to punish mistakes your opponent makes, and dont follow through with a full combo until you are sure you are hitting them with the first two moves of that combo. Then, continue to check out the forums for your specific character and come back here to post specific problems or questions you have! glhf

As a keyboard user, you will simply need to learn how to (for example) press down-downforward-forward-punch in order to do moves. The only disadvantage is that its technically challenging to learn, but you can get plenty good at it and your skills might transfer more easily to a Hitbox-style fightstick when you are ready.

thank you but i still have problems with super art and pandora i just cant do it i did one super art randomly spamming on keyboard anyway thx for other info i’m currently trying to watch and learn then using it in train mode or vs Hardest AI difficulity

To be honest I wouldn’t bother putting in any significant amount of practice time with a keyboard. It is highly unlikely you will ever be able to compete using it. If you want to be skilled at almost any 2D fighter, you need an arcade stick. A pad will not do either. Some players can get by with them, but it’s an unnecessary handicap. I’ve never in my life met a pad player who can beat me consistently, and I doubt I will. Get a stick.

Consider yourself challenged to a first-to-5 (or 10)! Meteo2 on xbox for SF4AE or SFxT, MeteoVex on PS3 for SF4AE

I was suprised when SFxT came out…Maybe 5 years late but whatever… This game is addictive like firecrotch…Rufus, Mardook, Steve, Hworang, …I think there will be more charecters in november…SF or die

Hi all, not sure where to post this so i thought i’d ask here first. Im trying to get all the titles in sfxt, and i am missing 3; fighting game maniac on page 2, and galaxy glider and city legend on page 7 of the titles thread. Does anyone know how to get them? I saw a youtube video of a guy who got all of them, but he doesn’t know how he got it. Wondering if anyone can help since this community is quite active. Thanks for any help, a lot of people dont know the criteria for the titles and im trying to do a little help guide for it. Thanks to anyone who can help!

No one knows? No idea for the titles?

No, but you can tag cancel the alpha counter for more damage and the kill. That’s why I like characters who’s alpha counters leave them in comboing range (Kazuya, Sagat), and doesn’t throw them flying across the screen (King). Though there is something to be said of the ability to alpha counter and raw tag safely.

I’m having trouble on my team selection. Right now I’m running juri/asuka and I’ve been thinking of switching asuka out for Hwoarang. I find it really hard for me to open someone up with asuka whereas using hwoarang seems much easier. I feel like whatever asuka offers hwoarang can just do it better. Should I switch over or does juri/asuka have other merits I do not know about?

I’m having a really hard time fighting against Ogre. I play endless battle with my friend quite a bit and he seems so use a lot on cr.lk cr.mk chain and into the fj,lk. IS there anything I can do to stop the pressure without wasting meter?

Any help would be appreciated Thank You.

Just a few questions on blocked jab strings and backdash options…

Is Backdashing out of blocking jab, jab, jab viable for all characters? Is it dependent on who has better backdashes?

Can backdashing after a blocked jab string be punished by Rolento’s or any character with a good c.forward into a damaging combo?

While doing jab, jab, is it possible to plink attacks in a situation where if an opponent blocks, nothing happens, but if it lands, you can do a damaging combo?

What do gems have to do with the game’s plot? Can somebody explain their presence in the game in terms of storyline?

I am not sure if this is the area where I should post this. If it’s the wrong place then please direct me to the correct location since I’m not sure if this is newbie worthy. XD

How do you deal with Vega(Claw) players?

I’ve been playing online for a while and these… For lack of a better word, spammers, all that they do is make vega fly all over the screen and I can’t seem to kill them or be able to block them. I just can’t beat them. Any tips against that type of move where he just bounces off walls and magically goes through your attacks like projectiles and stuff? Or maybe a way to counter that cause I’m tired of running to these people.

1)you dont try to punish anything but his DP move or claw vertical dive (no idea how its called)
2)you learn to block a lot and not press any buttons
3)you dont jump on him when he has 2 bars.

I’ll keep that in mind when I fight against him. I just have a really bad time with these guys.
