Sorry guys, I’ve never played on an arcade machine in my life!
It’s awful, I know. Living here in Northern Virginia really doesn’t give me much access to any arcades locally.
It’s strange actually, the one person who I would’ve expected to have experimented on optical joysticks like a maniac would be kowal, but I didn’t see a trace of either the Sanwa FLASH 1 or the ASCII Answer on his site. The only optical joystick I saw on his site was a WICO Perfect 360, and that was some really whack model I’ve never seen before.
I’m with Half-Ro, those look INSANELY awesome! Perhaps it uses the same magnetic induction tech that Suzo Inductive joysticks use? Or maybe it’s an optical button?
A guy on arcadecontrols said he had some of those Wico P360 buttons in the past and says that they had “optical sensors”. I don’t really know what that means though. Does he mean a photogate?
Man, do I. Played so many battles in the local Time-Out I could have bought a cabinet back in the day. I could go on for hours about crappy cabinets, buttons that didn’t work, sticks that only worked in one direction, you name it I’ve played it. Try doing anything with Chun Li without her forward kick…memories, I tell you! The sole reason I never got an arcade stick and made my own was they didn’t have happ parts. No straight layout, no cherry switches, no heavy spring…not for the kid!
Sorry guys, I’ve never played on an arcade machine in my life!
Don’t worry. I’m not that far out (PG County) and have seen the arcade scene as a whole disappear some years ago. You definitely missed some good times!
WICO Perfect 360 Super Joystick (with special hub) (I see this ver on e-bay, for me is best ver P360 base from Super is ideal)
WICO Perfect 360 hub integrated look how normal HAPP P360 (hard spring)
HAPP Perfect 360 hub integrated
I have ASCII
there is no him on side but base from JLF is not useful to optics. Weak dynamics, joystick is too slow, any advantage resulting with optics.
optics hub + pivot bearing + soft spring = mistake
for me advantage from optics in only on fast centring stick - without pivot bearing
believe me, this is not good joystick, only road and inaccessible
now good FLASH equivalent is U360, I use original base from jap ver JLW, Ultimarc sell U360 with base from J-stick (JLW ver for Euro/US seller)
theoretically base from JLW is better than from JLF (harder spring) but dynamics still sux, why? because U360 use pivot bearing.
for shmup only SUZO UIC
for fighter only Perfect 360
Just for kicks, I hooked my p360 up to a 3.7v lipo battery I had from a PS3 controller. It worked with no problem. Gives me hope for having a wireless stick with a P360. That said, I don’t know what the current draw would be so how feasible it would be in practice is unclear. But at least in theory it could work…
hey i just wanted to post that my search for a sanwa flash has ended! i actually got two! one is a new one off of ebay sold by srk member and one from fujifilm who sold me his steve tren stick that comes with a flash. big thanks to ibeatu for the heads up on the stick fujifilm was selling! i def had a lot of support from you guys along the way, thanks so much everyone
i also jsut wanted to add, i dunno what i did meus, but whatever it was, i’m sorry. we had done business before and it went smoothly, at least i thought we did, we both gave positive feedback and such, so i dunno what i did wrong but whatever it was, i’m sorry man.
anyway, thanks again! i will be enjoying sanwa optical goodness soon :wgrin:
