Assuming for a moment the game was frozen in time, I honestly think the most reasonable thing to do is take a look at what the maximum damage a character should be capable of in all forms. In and out of X-Factor, with and without meter and determine a general cap of where the maximum should be for each one, then implement ways to make that happen either via individual character tweaks or system mechanics. So if Sentinel is still supposed to be a character capable of dishing out massive damage for one hit, they could tweak it so the character has to work harder to get that one solid hit or spend more resources doing that damage. Sent could definitely use a once-over in that case and a few other characters could be looked at closely.
I definitely don’t think just the general damage reduction across the board would help, not without other stuff being done.
Hell, it was as recent as ONE month ago people were worried about timeouts and low damage. I remember crystal clear on this very forum people praising the merits of MvC2’s hardcore ‘stay on point’ flow. Now, almost a complete 180, people want less damage.
Those asking for less damage or less time on lvl3 have a good base, I admit. The turnaround is still hilarious, though.
And that’s what I’ve been saying all along. You guys GOT everything you asked for: a broken-ass game with ridiculous high damage where all sorts of great stuff is possible, and if you aren’t careful you will get slaughtered by peoplke who know what they’re doing (and even some people who don’t)
Can someone explain to me how Level 3 X-factor ISN’T in any way meant for scrubs? I need a solid explanation here, since it’s a pretty big part of the game.
Just because saved your XF for in case you lost two of your characters doesn’t mean you are a scrub. This will happen between my younger brothers and me. Justin Wong vs Ricky Ortiz. Mike Ross vs Gamerbee. Or me vs you.
It’s a valid tactic that changes the flow of matches, BASED ON WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH IT. Its not an “I win” button, though we make it seem like it is.
Pretty sure it was a way to keep you in the game when things looked bleeked. You have no assist to cover your approach, they speed you up, got no assist to extend combos/DHC, they boost damage, can’t tag out to regen health, don’t worry you recover it when you’re not in hitstun or blockstun.
They went a little overboard with it though, imo. They levels should be Lv1 with longer time or same time as Lv1 with the buffs of their respective level. The buffs and the increased time as a bonus for Lv3 is a bit much.
For the record, I’m still not happy with how the damage is, but I’ve accepted it at this point. I’ve played games far ‘stupider’ then this, that still carried the ‘fuck up once and you die’ mantra, and the damage output was never this high. Whatever.
I’m not touching the rest of the thread.
I’m positive this game will be patched post Evo anyway.
No. There were timeouts with all sorts of characters and people went apeshit. Also ref. the exhibition at Evo.
Hell, I was one of the guys who expected a balanced game before the fact, and I got mountains of shit from players lecturing me about how fun a broken game is. I’m personally not gonna forget that. And now the game is mostly balanced by giving everybody stupid-crazy possibilities. IMO, Capcom pulled a stunt to serve both player bases. I wanted more viable characters, but they’re viable in the way the other side glorified in MvC2. People are being salty, but I honestly see it as kinda genius, if not ballsy.
Any character with lvl3 XF will KO your ass a single, decent enough combo. 'Gief can KO most characters with less than half the moves most of the cast requires. He’s strong. And Sent’s strong, so it’s expected that a power buff would amplify this. I remember arguing about infinite and people would reply, “Avoid it”. Well Sent’s easier to avoid than any infinite. Most the people I see getting creamed by a lvl3 XF Sent tried to be heroes (or prove a point, who knows).
I high-tail it whenever anybody activates lvl3 XF with *any *character. Just like I try to bait Ultras. Just like I emphasize GI when my Soul gauge is blinking red.
In MvC2, the odds are severely tipped in favor of the player who has more characters left. 2 half-health characters>>>1 full-health character, basically. X-Factor is supposed to balance out the slippery slope factor of losing a character.
X-Factor doesn’t balance anything, I rather have level 3 X-Factor than three characters. That’s how powerful X-Factor is. When I do OCV a team with level 3 X-Factor, I felt like I did not deserve the win at all.
This is probably something you’ll grow out of as you level up. The one character has no assists, and only needs to be opened up once to lose ( at the very least X-factor, possibly the game too ) Even if every combo is 100% the one player needs to land three to win a 1v3 match.
No, if you got double-snapped (which means their execution was on point), you lost one character and your team was upside-down and hopefully you knew how to play like that.
If you got AHVB’d, that should have been one character unless you were dumb or got beat. Very few things except assist punishes got near 100%. Fast fly combos with Sent that get the big “ooooooooooo!” from the crowd might do 80%. =\
Right now the damage to me seems crazy high. If I screw up in marvel, I’ve lost 40-60% one character, typically. If I screw up in Marvel 3, I can eat 100-200% pretty easily.
Discovering bigger and better combos over time often happens in fighting games: if that happens here in theory everybody will have a 100% soon and that’s crazy.
You’re saying it’s ok for one character to beat an entire team in a game based entirely on team synergy and the like? The other guy fucked up, he’s got one character left, he activates XFactor and now the guy with 300% health is at risk? Really? You don’t see something inherently wrong with that?
About Sentinel; Yes, every character can pretty much do pretty high damage and that’s even worse in X-Factor. However, I think the reason it’s worse for Sentinel is because his damage is really damn good already. You might point at Thor, but I don’t think Thor has a really good move with armour. You might point at Hulk, but Hulk doesn’t have a full screen move like Sentinel’s s/c.H. Gamma Wave might be the closest, but it won’t help Hulk’s Keepaway game as much as Sentinel.
But I do agree that it’s very early to claim OP on any character. Back in Vanilla SFIV, it took awhile to establish the fact that Akuma has a slight advantage over Sagat, so we’ll have to wait and see. We already know that most jumping attacks are instant overheads on Sentinel and a lot of them can be chained to a ground combo. Won’t be long till we really discover some mad shit over Sentinel.
If we didn’t, it won’t really bother me. I still enjoy MvC2 and the four gods do really break the game, so it really shouldn’t bother me if Sentinel was OP here, especially since it’s a team dynamics game.
Level 3 X-Factor does bother me though. I’ll cry more and forget the fact that I have it as well.
EDIT: I’m also one of the people that like the high damage of this game. Just sayin’.
You guys talk about X-Factor as though only the opponent can use it. You both have X-Factor. If your opponent has 1 guy vs. your 3, do as much as you can and then Use your own X-Factor when you get 1 guy left. He will have run out of his and now the ball is in your court.
What’s that you say? He will just run away from you when you activate your x-factor? Than why don’t you run away from him when he get’s his?
Sentinel I can understand, he is a bit too strong (but also a big target). However this x-factor whining is incredibly shit.
Whoever is getting OCVed by a level 3 x-factor does not know how to play the game. Either run away or use your own x-factor end of story.
