Picked up Smash last night. More patient with this one than Melee, for various reasons. Starting to get the hang of it. Haven’t used all the characters yet, but settled on Captain Falcon as he seem the most ‘normal’ to get into the game.

The challenges/mini-games are helping out.

I’ll be on wireless for.online matches, fair warning ahead.

I might on later, to run a set with my friend, if you see us on just hop in. I think I’m gonna cop an amiibo or two today

did anybody pick up a deluxe wii u from target for $150 during the last couple of days. If so fuck you.

I finally picked up smash. I ended up getting the adapter bundle with the controller and game.

It really sucks for the people who had bought the game already. I decided to wait until I could get an adapter. I really hate the fact that gamestop got me though. They got me good.

The adapter bundle isn’t bad if you don’t already have the game…far better than that adapter+4 GC controller bundle they’re trying to dump on people.

It’s way better. I have crappy internet so I wasn’t in a huge rush to get the game since I can’t play online.

I just feel bad for the people who bought the game and still cant get one even though a supply is there. Granted resellers would probably just buy them all anyway.

Saw this article on Forbes about the Wii U. Interesting perspective. What are you guys’ thoughts?

http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2015/01/02/nintendo-won-2014-but-the-wii-us-fundamental-problem-remains/

I stopped reading as soon as the tired “Nintendo needs to stop making consoles” bullshit came up.

Totally agree there. Nintendo is obviously doing something right. However I can’t say that there is some validity that the touchpad in a number of cases, especially for 3rd party titles, isn’t really used to its full potential. I will say, the author’s point of a Pokemon Snap reboot is definitely something the Nintendo should be doing.

That’s not Nintendo’s fault that lazy-ass Ubisoft can’t think of simple ways to use the Gamepad.

Of course it isn’t Nintendo’s fault. However, there is something to be said for a console with a feature that sets them apart from the competition be totally underused. However, Nintendo is creating gold in their library. Clearly it is enough to move units and for good reason.

Has Nintendo itself been making innovative uses of the gamepad, though? Most of the games still use it just for minimaps or for some quick inventory. The guy’s right that the structure of the gamepad makes it so that it’s difficult to design a system that makes a constant use of both screens without feeling awkward. Unlike the DS, where both screens are always in your field of vision, with the gamepad you have to switch back and forth with your focus.

The lack of third party support is also still a major factor, and one I’m not really sure Nintendo will ever be able to overcome. The reality is that the Wii U only really has value as a Nintendo machine at the moment. If you’re not interested in Nintendo games, there’s no reason to get a Wii U over another console or PC. Nintendo really needs more big third party exclusives like Bayo 2 to draw in other people, but that’s such a big gamble that not many people will take. Bayo only got that exclusive in the first place because literally no one else would fund it.

I buy nintendo systems for nintendo products and games. Not for the same recycled garbage I can get on Sony or Microsoft. I’m fine with the library I have and I’m happy with the titles that are coming out next year that will expand it even more.

They just need to make the wii u pad an actual element in game play (kinda like what they doing with star fox and toad treasure tracker) instead of an awkward as fuck controller that has a sub-menu screen on it

Ubi’s games do make use of it. I don’t see what’s hard about ZombiU’s use (which is done awesome) and I’ve heard similar things about Rayman and Splinter Cell. I’m sure Watchdog’s had good ideas, but those probably got scrapped as it wasn’t worth their time.

NSMB U and NSLU make great uses for the Game Pad as well as Pikmin 3 (pours one out), Nintendo Land, Game and Wario. I think if the Game Pad looked different, it would’ve gone a long way. Aesthetic and design matter, and with the way it looks now, it’s easy for people to be turned off by. It would’ve take Nintendo out of their predicament now, but maybe alleviate somethings that people don’t like about it. The Wii is one of the best looking systems out there, if not the best looking, design wise.

I’m hoping Nintendo makes some cool uses for the new Zelda game, and don’t phone it in because of Amiibo support.

Finished hyrule warriors.
That game was butt.

A lot of the article reminded me of the forum comments about the thing in 2013. When I got my system at the end of that year, I didn’t see what was so bad about it. I head Deus Ex and Splinter Cell made good use of it, but those games didn’t/don’t interest me. Off-TV play was actually really nice, when I intially wrote it off. I’m also a fan of clean HUDs and was cool with item management and maps on it instead of the screen. Not having to pause and unpause to bring up movelists in games like Ninja Gaiden sounded cool to me as well.

Just like those comments from then, and even now, they are still off base. The games don’t appeal to the general public, but there’s been a lot of great games that have used it and cool uses for it. The system isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, or even half that, but there have been plenty of justifiable reasons for it, but for the majority, they don’t care.

IMO the 3rd party games with the best Gamepad implementation are probably ZombiU and Wonderful 101.
The 1st party game with the best gamepad implementation is probably Pikmin 3.

Hyrule warriors is pretty much a lawn mowing, button Mashing Sim, the story was poop basically hey ,Zelda staples, athe end.
The environments were God awful boring Bunch of empty meaningless space with a few squares to take over.
I don’t see how people enjoy warriors games.

Actually W101 is first party. But yeah I agree you about it using the pad in a good way.

Huh, when did Nintendo absorb Platinum Games?

Platinum made W101.
