Strategic depth does not come from being unpredictable. Predictability is an element but it is not the foundation. The strategy underlying any good fighting game should come from a strong understanding of interactions in the game and planning effectively for them.
Parries, or at least as they were found in 3S, diminish your ability to plan because parries are always available and are virtually always the best counter to anything you could possibly attempt (except throw lol).
There’s no concievable strategy or plan that can effectively counter parries except for ‘don’t be predictable with your offense’, which is hardly an iron clad plan.
Ogre is lame, if you use Ogre you’re admitting you are a scrub, why is Ogre the most bullshit character in a fighting game ever?
This game has stupid amounts of block stun.
-Assist Gems without the ability to filter them through lobbies is retarded.
-Hit stun is so massive I even find myself jab walking just because it’s so brain-dead easy.
-Time outs still a pain
oh i hate how scrubby this game is, i hate how all these scrubs keep making me beat them with crossups and patriot circles and switch-out ex dp’s cause theyre so free blah blah blah
some of us scrubs are trying to learn some goddamned fundamentals, but wasting time on punishing that shits beneath you right cause youve all been playing since super turbo
and you all bitch about how shitty it is that no one gives a damn about FG’s compared to some call of duty bullshit
right up until some scrub ass blackface ryu lands a couple of crossups into nonsense on you, then its all “waaaah crapcops stole all my monies, might as well use some bs gems since this game sucks anyways”
my complaint is how all over the place and prissy and conceited and hypocritical the fanbase seems to be acting right now
i work my ass of to try and learn some decent damage and all you can do is shit on how its so pathetically easy and cheap its an unrewarding waste of your time to play me
ps- one thing im not having much trouble with, pointing the stick the other way to block a crossup
pss- one actual complaint about the game- id like to be able to accidentally hit heavy punch and light kick without humiliating myself, wasting a meter, and eating a free combo
I hate time outs. Winning by them or losing by them, they are the most painful ways to win ever. In SF4 or Marvel, you lame it out every once in a while and it’s fine, but when it happens every other game depending on character match-ups it’s just so dishearteningly awful.
Also, why the fuck does it take so long to find people online? Is it so hard to incorporate the ‘choose from a list’ menu for ranked battles?
Also can someone explain to me why everyone of Sagat’s stubby little limbs have so much priority? They literally stuff everything.
I believe there’s a difference between a new player and a scrub, lol. I don’t mind playing new players, going a little easier on them so they can test their new setups and ideas. Hell, I’ll even punish their mistakes with a jab just to show “hey, be careful here”. I’ll also go as far to say the assist gems and auto-combos are a nice addition to the game for new players to get a little leg up (though I recommend they actually learn things if they wanna level up).
A scrub is somebody that plays the game at a fundamentally low level, doesn’t want to level up and learn, just to win by abusing anything broken. At this point, assist gems in the hands of somebody that knows how to abuse them, is broken.
Things like stage length and timer are just annoyances we’re not used to. It brings down the action of the match to a crawl. Running away isn’t a new tactic, and we learn to overcome it if we want to win… but when it’s catered to and encouraged perhaps you can see why it stirs up a large part of the community oO
sometimes, i play people like you, and its very rewarding, and i do my best to pay attention and learn something
i dont think im a genuine scrub, just because i always play my best, i practice every day, and i read up every night to keep up a barely-worth-mentioning C rank
but i do suck, so when i come across less hospitable folks, i get regarded the same as any scrub
honestly i guess i can understand you guys getting mad, you work hard enough to play at a refined level and that gets constantly undermined by the company’s bad decisions and the influx of people who dont really want to learn the game
i just get defensive cause it almost feels like if the community rejects this game and calls it too scrubby, theyll be saying the same thing about me, because i love this game and i really want to see it succeed,
I just wanted to notify that if all the people who are unhappy with SFXT will buy SkullGirls 2 weeks from now, the game will have a big scene and you won’t need to care about SFXT anymore. Think about that.
People bitch about every game, it’s not a big deal. Also people having a whine in a ranting thread doesn’t represent the community. Most things you see online wont really represent the community, it’s just a way for people to be vocal about things without putting themselves at risk. Don’t let it bother you, I can guarantee you that you will find people to play SFxT with for many months to come.
…I think the man has a plan. A grand plan! I could learn Skullgirls, but it’s not Capcom, and SFxT is easier to bitch about, so I think I will take the easy way out. Besides, Skullgirls is lame: small roster, no 3D sprites, a solid tutorial and play-tested by pros. Pfft, how can that ever work!
Hey I want to play Ms. Fortune and Cerebella as much as the next guy, but I just have that sinking feeling about SG. It’s made too many promises, you know? The community and Mike Z have hyped this game up to be the savior to all fighting games, which means the moment something’s wrong with it people are going to go ape shit crazy.
Spoiler
And you know, just like all games, the community is going to find something wrong with it.
