The Official Ranting Thread

tried out the tekken cast a bit…tier whored today online, won a few times, then put SSF4 back in and played with Fei.

Conclusion? SFxT is borderline garbage. Not garbage in the sense that’s is so awful, but there is (IMO) just better fighters to choose from today.

A fundamentally flawed game and aesthetically lacking in almost every area. wasted $60 tbh, but at least it was mostly old store credit and I can get Skyrim for only $35 now. Will trade it in over the weekend. I knew my initial feeling were right, it wasn’t my favorite characters sucking (ken) it’s just the game. Endless fishing for X-up, 3-5 characters that can anti air, stiff animations on jabs/normals so blockstrings are non-existant or just feel odd and unresponsive. Terrible glitches with online, clunkly and unpolished looking combos split of characters that are designed to be point/support which basically makes the support guys feel inferior…man, I can keep going.

Fighting games drop in price almost as quickly as Sports. This could certainly be some good fun and change of pace for fighting fans, so I advise everyone to just wait for a price-drop/Used copy to pick it up. This will not replace SSF4/MK/UMVC/KOF…even when the online is fixed, all the DLC is out, colors are more abundant, etc…fundamentally this game tried to take the best parts of Tekken and mix it with SF4’s engine, and what you have is mediocrity from both sides. The zoning is not as refined as in SF4, the juggling and tagging not as refined as in Tekken, a fun, albeit flawed game that should have been released at $40…

rant over, tks for reading’-)

btw–I Think this game is only fun because many players here don’t play Tekken, or never got really good at it. Tekken juggling system is 10x smoother than this rubbish, it just takes a lot more skill to look like top players in videos. This game is both a dumbed down version of SF4 and Tekken combined, I’m actually a little offended playing it tbh.

I just wished Capcom would removed the “CHEESE” from SF4–easy reversals, 1000 shortcuts/revenge & super meter (pick one capcom!), and gave character more reward for being offensive and risky. Throw in tekken characters, give them blockstrings, ways to get through zoning and taget combos. I think that honestly would have been a better game, but I’m just over-ranting now…The more I play the game, and the more I win, the more I feel disrespected that this was even considered to be a competitive fighter. It’s built around fun…once you stop taking it seriously…it is fun though, I won’t deny that…

Why is Chun HUGE now?

RUFUS=Braindead,

ill take bets now that a rufus will make it into top 8 at evo

This.

I don’t hate the game by any means - but I wished that the shit was more refined and polished. Sure, playing is fun and all - but there is some fundamental flaws regarding both gameplay and basic structures (online, shoddy color edit mode, the easy-combo stuff that you can’t even turn off, etc) - and there is also the DLC fiasco.

I’ll only get the game 'cause I’m such a nerdy character loyalist and I’m really curious to try and rep Alisa-chan down the line (and the game will be cheaper too) - but SFxT could have been way more better. And the way Capcom and their PR are dealing with everything definitively is not helping things out.

I only got 2 real complaints about this game (I honestly knew some BS was going to go on being a “VS.” game, so I knew this game was going to be Street Fighter Crossup Tekken)

  1. The only characters I really wanted to play are Disk Locked Content (Bry/Guy)
  2. I’m not sure if it’s me, but why can’t you view endings and prologues after you unlock them?

chains within links upon target combos: this game is a mess!

Timing gets stricter the more reps you do.

Also Magneto’s infinite in MVC2 is easier. :shy:

Auto-Block and Auto-Tech Throw are dumb…

I’m really surprised at how much respectable players seem love this game. I find it hard to understand. I’m trying to hold judgement until I sufficiently learn the game, but I get bored by the time I even select training mode. Just the menu graphics are a turn off.

I’ve kept quiet and bit my lip the past few days over this game, I am enjoying it. However, outside things have soured the whole experience for me.

Firstly, what the hell happened to the 360 version!? Was Capcom so busy getting blown by Sony that they completely forgot about the 360? The fact the 360 isn’t popular in Japan is NO EXCUSE for the rubbish version 360 users got ( considering the 360 is more popular elsewhere. ) NO free / guest characters, Co-op mode doesn’t work as advertised, Xbox specific input bugs among other things.

The online goes without mention, sound bugs should NOT be in a 2012 game. Soul Calibur 5 did it right, what was preventing Capcom from doing likewise!? The BS excuses refuse to cover the failures on Capcoms part.

Then there are the ridiculously easy infinites that have being discovered already, they are so easy, even I, who is no where near an execution wizard like Desk, can do them and I say we are only on the tip of the iceberg in that regard, how many more brain dead infinites will be discovered!?

Then there is the whole DLC fiasco. Now, I don’t mind costumes being on the disc like SSF4 but when there are locked characters who won’t be available for 6 *months *because Capcom are getting blown by Sony doesn’t tide well with me either.

Soul Calibur 5 was a rushed game as well ( in fact, even more rushed than SFxT ) and it has no where near the same amount of problems SFxT has. It manages to tick the right boxes where it counted, has the best netcode of any fighting game this generation and even has a unified guest character on both consoles. This game on the other hand, is a money grab and I am disgusted.

The only thing that will probably keep me playing for now is the fact my SF4 main, Juri is good in this game. Even then, I don’t think I’ll be playing this for much longer. I hope this game crashes and burns in order to teach Capcom a lesson about rushing out bug infested, console favoritism games.

Just because I got to rank C and fell down to 500 BP does not mean I should be fighting people 10x my skill level…

Edit: Oh wow, you can rank down in this game. It better stop pairing me with stupid match ups now.

my only rant is that the supers and cross arts are too long. 3-5 seconds should be the max length of any cinematic.

edit: and fuck gems, i hate everything about how the gems were implemented in this game.

Gems add a strategetic dynamic. Get used to it and find the ones that would benefit your style of play. An example I have is that I use the team of Ogre and King. King heavily relies on meter, while Ogre never needs it. Therefor, I give Ogre 3 gems that help him build meter even faster than he already does. King gets tagged in with power gems, and already has full meter thanks to Ogre. He’s scary at this point.

uhhhhh last time i checked gems were banned at all events? are they back in?

I honestly don’t see why they *would *be. DLC gems of course, but I believe the standard gems add a deep strategetic component matchup-wise. Thats why the gem menu only appears after you see what characters your opponents are using. Its allowing you to chose the correct gems for said opponents.

Lets says Zangief is fighting a zoning character. Zangief is getting out-zoned all day. How does he counter this? Speed gems. Walk speed, dash, jump speed ; all are upped.

im not arguing the merit of the idea. only that the implementation is so poor that they are essentially unusable. i love the idea behind them.

happens to me every fucking round

I thought this game was a fighting game… not a ''chase the guy that keep holding back ‘’ game

so annoying.

Turtling is a viable strategy.

I agree. While it is possible to do 400+ damage combos in a matter of seconds, I still dislike the way you can abuse the time limit.

By the time T-minus 15 seconds hits, you can bet the opponent starts turtling if they have a substantial health lead. Know why? Its because if you don’t turtle, there’s still a chance that the opponent could land an abc combo, taking half your health. THEN the opponent turtles with 5 seconds remaining.

On the note of turtle characters, I just don’t get it. I’m not against Guile being in the game, I’m against him retrieving his turtle tools instead of getting aggressive ones. They could’ve changed the properties of his normals/specials to cater to an aggressive style. Much like how his f+fk was a great frame trap in sf4.

Re-inventing characters is totally possible for a different style of game. Just compare ST Claw to SF4 Claw. Completely different.
