I agree with some of this, not all. Sony ain’t done. Not this century. However, digital is quickly becoming (Or has become?) the new standard. I looked at my own collection using PS3 as a medium, and I have TWICE the number of DLC’s compared to physical disks, and this even includes my old PS2 and PS1 disks. Mind you, I did lose a good number of them due to theft and having to move a few times, but still. Foxconn? Only ever had one product of theirs, a motherboard. It was all good, did everything and did it well, and lasted my broke ass 7 years under “Less than ideal” conditions. In short, their products are good by me and I will buy again when I begin construction of…THE BEAST. :wow:

You guys turned me on to Nier, and now after hearing about Folklore, looks like I’ll have to get it too. Amazon has it for $21 new. Sounds good.

That’s been on my list ever since I played the launch demo…seems like I was right and should just buy it.

Yea guys Folklore is cool. Crazy good atmosphere, pretty engaging story, the Folk system is sweet. I feel like Shang Tsung. “YOUR SOUL IS MINE!” lol.

Just remember it’s a PS3 Launch game from a rather small dev group. It’s not the prettiest thing on the block and it has a good deal of loading when you play. Not long load times, just frequent.

Oh and when you do play ask in here for a list of what magic breaks what color diamonds Thats was kind of frustrating to me until i looked it up. Yellow bein earth, com on now.

I remember a friend showing me this trailer to Folklore, it got me playing it.

That actually look pretty dope.

Digital distribution is gaining ground but until companies like MS and Sony have sales that can compare to retail, I don’t see it going that route. Further, Digital Distribution is in direct opposition with companies like comcast and AT&T capping their customers’ data usage. Nobody is gonna download a 50 gig game or movie and eat 20-30% of their data cap for the month. Especially if the price model used is the same one that ms and Sony have been using for the last few years.

I’d also strongly question digital distribution in the future if the drm on games requires a connection to psn. Look at how many folks are assed out when it comes to playing some games they bought simply because psn is down.

Only a few Capcom games use the “must be online” DRM for PS3 as far as I know.

Doesn’t really matter if it’s just a few. If the amount is more than zero, then it’s too many. That’s another strike against DD. People should be able to play their games regardless. Psn being down isn’t the customers’ fault but they’re paying for it by not being able to play things they’ve bought. That’s ridiculous.

Another thing that was a negative about it was, that you had to play through each part twice, once with each character.

That’s really just Capcom’s poor decisions in how they implement their DRM.
Have you ever used Steam?

well, to be honest, the folks were different and had different weaknesses between the characters. some folks even had different uses/attacks. keits parts were relatively weaker (less folks, no dressup, shorter sections), but his beast mode shit can be fairly entertaining. i don’t see the two times through as a weakness, but just in general, playing keits wasn’t as entertaining… not horrible, but not nearly as fun as ellen.

you can clearly see where their focus was when designing the game.

Of course I’ve used steam. Steam is how digital distribution should be. But there isnt any system thats as good as steam. Thing is, valve can set their own prices and set up how they want to verify things. It would be ideal if everything ran like steam but that probably won’t happen.

The bottom line is that having to connect to a network and stay online in order to play a game you bought is pretty ridiculous. I’m sure you can agree.

I’ll agree I am having more fun with Ellen the Keits but Keits is still fun and his Berserker mode is pretty beast. It does sort of suck they go through the exact same areas but the two of them are different enough, and their story modes engaging enough for it not to be a big stain on the game.

Really Gamer republic should return to this IP and make the logical improvements. They’d have something great on their hands imo.

I can agree. I bought Double Impact. =/

Hold up…so I HAVE to be online to play Double Impact?
That’s some bull.

Confirmed. A long time ago.

Absolutely. It just appeared as though you were explicitly attacking the concept of digital distribution, as opposed to the shitty circumstances that people have found themselves in due to one developers choices.

Every other piece of digital software I’ve bought on PSN works even without being signed in or connected to the net.

But yeah, the specific DRM method used for those titles is trash, and it’s unfortunate that it is included on more than one title. Digital distribution however, I think is a great way of getting your games out, and when it’s done correctly (which is like, 99% of the time, realistically, especially with Steam and its inclusion of Offline Mode game access etc), I have almost no qualms with it.

And hey, who knows, with Steamworks/PSN integration in Portal, it may be heading in that direction of Steam being a little more involved. It would be pretty awesome, IMO.

I think he’s thinking of Microsoft…goes back to playing Silent Hill

That nonsense about being online is the only reason I did not buy Final Fight. This is pretty sad because my girlfriend loves Haggar in MvC3 and I ain’t got no way of showing her the game.
