Anyone know a place where they list how much GBs it takes to install for each game? Need an idea if I’ll need to upgrade to a bigger HD.
If you just need to know whether a specific game requires a HDD install, look it up at Gamefly. At the bottom of the page it shows the minimum storage space required.

Hey you guys, I’m having some trouble and was wondering if anyone here could help me out. I was trying to get online on my fat PS3 for the first time in a couple of months, so of course I have to update… Well, after the update, not only can I not get online, but everytime I press the PS button to go into the menu, the screen freezes and I have to manually turn the system off just to get it back up. Not only that, but now it won’t even play any PS2 games. (I have the backwards-compatible 80gb PS3)
What can I do to fix this? Or is my system dying? It’s really starting to annoy me.

That’s one of the games that I was always surprised when people said they never played. I absolutely adored that game. Critter Crunch is another one of those games.

First thing you better do is blow it out. not that huffing and puffing buisness, go to a radio shack and get a can or two of canned pressurised air. blow out ALL the vents, pull the drive out and blow out the area it sits in, wait a few minutes and plug her up again. just in case I have to say it, MAKE SURE YOU ARE IN A ROOM WITH NO DUST! Since you said it had been a few months, I’m guessing that you hadn’t been dusting that area much. With luck, this should hook you up on the cheap without having to resort to a lot of expensive fixes. Hope that helps.

i wouldn’t compressed air otherwise you’ll blow some component out. use a small low powered vacuum cleaner with a hose but you run the risk of static and sucking some component out.
You get a lower power vacuum and you have nothing to worry about when it comes to sucking a component out. I my Dust Buster on my fat its fine. Anyway def do this DO NOT use compressed air on your electronics ever. Those are for cleaning out things like keyboards. Not delicate electronics boards.
How would one go about preventing static with a small handheld vacuum cleaner? I have a 40gig PS3, I was always under the assumption that a Fan Test was made to clean it out, is that not true?

I tried all the quick-fix solutions, none of them worked. I’m pretty sure any attempt at repair would involve me opening it up and doing some soldering. I don’t have the tools/know-how for that, so I’d have to take it to a repair shop.
What are the pros/cons of buying a new system vs getting the old one repaired. I had a fatty 60GB with BC, so I kind of want to keep that, as well as all the saved data and what not I had on the system. But the slims are kind of sexy. Any advice?
Oh, and I can’t send the system to Sony for repairs - I’m fairly sure it’s not under warranty anymore, and even if it was it’s an American PS3 and I live in Japan. Shipping would murder me.
