I bought the God of War Anthology even though I own GoW1, 2 and a working PS2. I’ll do the same for this supposed MGS collection, because even though I own MGS2 and 3 originals and the re-release of the games in the Essentials collection, giving me HD, trophies, 2-3 games on one disc at a budget price is an awesome deal to me. If you ran around and bought all 3 Sly Cooper games for PS2, it’ll cost you the same if not more than the Sly Cooper collection coming out. Same with the GoW Anthology, when it came out the PS2 games were still 20$ everywhere new. I hope Capcom puts out a DMC and Onimusha collection, I love those games and I’d buy them again. Considering that their is an Onimusha and DMC collection out already on PS2, I don’t see why they wouldn’t do an HD collection.
The only reason I want BC is because of convenience. If my PS3 had BC I’d occasionally pop a PS2 game in there. If I want to play my PS2 I have to hook it up to my new TV then have it look like crap because it’s 480i on a 1080p TV(unless the game supports 16:9) I wish I had an older model PS3, but even then, unless you have the 60GB you’re gonna run across some framerate and graphical issues once in a while, and even with the 60GB having the PS2 chip in it it still runs across some of the same problems. Oh, and that input lag shit.
Bottom line is if you want to play PS2 games, you still need a PS2. If you have a PS2 and an upscaler then you’re set.
It really is a smart business decision. I’d gladly pay 20 bucks for an HD remake with trophies than backwards compatability. Still a lot of work to make it HD so it’s not free money like releasing PS1 classics.
Capcom better do a great job with RE4 then.

Kinda. The devs get money because it is a new game and it gets shipped out. Gamestop makes a small amount of new games. Used games are almost pure profit though. So they make a LOT more money selling GOW1 & 2 for PS2 and very little off of the HD collection where Sony gets 0 dollars for GOW1 & 2 for PS2 if gamestop sells it used but get a lot more from the new HD collection.
Also, I"m sure Sony gets more money because what the developers are putting out is considered a PS3 game, and that’s where sony wants to make it’s money. So even if those games paid dividends to Sony previously, sony opens up a brand new revenue stream with HD remakes. So they get paid twice on the same stuff.
And the HD remake problem still doesn’t solve the backwards compatability issue. I don’t see a suikoden collection coming any time soon.
It’s all about money. Just like I told you guys before. They took the shit out so they could sell new copies of old games, and continue to sell the ps2.
I’m fine with the HD Remakes. I’d rather have a collection of a said series remastered and all on one disc then have them be separate and look like shit.

I hope naughty dog puts out an hd remake of the jak series & also insomniac could also put out an hd remake of the ratchet series since they were making newer games of the series for the ps3.

I don’t think that’s the point.
The real point is they’re making even more money off of old shit when they made enough off of it in the past. It’s what I call “The Jordan Effect”. Still make the same shit from '98 and sell it at the same price in 2010 with no real enhancements to the original product. Just “more colors”.
Example: RE2. Ok, it’s now in HD with trophies. Does it still have tank controls? Yes. Is the graphics enhanced or changed in any way? No not really. Any new features? The move? No. Then what’s the “hype” for this game? Why should you buy it when you already have the game AND a PS2?
“Oh, it’s HD and it fits the entire screen”. Um, my tv has a zoom/ stretch for picture… It will look the same if not exact if I played it on my PS2. Before my PS2 crashed, that’s exactly what I did. It works like that for my DC too.
I’m just sayin’.
Will shatta buy a HD collection of DMC, DMC2, DMC3-SE? depends on the price and how it’s “acquired”. If the game(s) is like, $24.99 (the entire collection) $8 a game, and it’s a Blueray disc then I’d cop’ it. Once I unlock the trophies it’s going to gamestop with 10% trade in bonus. The only reasons why I wouldn’t is if the price is over the $24.99 asking price, they have it on PSN for each game sold separately for $10 a piece, and/ or it’s on PSN only.
It’s evident that complaints wont help now especially when there’s more people still buying HD-Rehash games, but to read that Sony just doesn’t want to work on making up something to “solve” the BC issue because “there’s no money in firmwares” is bogus. It just looks to me, IMO, that Sony is becoming pirates themselves. They always knew what the PS3 could do, other people (pirate gamers) took advantage of it, now Sony is just “flipping the script” and making honest gamers pay for other peoples crimes. That’s just the way of business, I guess.
Either way, I just hope PSN/ Sony will not force these PS2 HD-Rehash games to be iso/download only then it wont bother me as much, but the whole thing is still kinda lame. Next thing you know, Sony will rehash all of these games again just for 3D tv’s…

Price points will determine if these collections really sell. Sony using God of War as an indicator is misleading as God of War is one of the most heralded and greatest series of all time, despite it’s relatively short life span. Smaller, more niche games like Ico/Shadow of the Collosus, although critically acclaimed and loved, didn’t have quite the same impact at God of War business-wise. If these collections are all $29.99 and under, then I’d imagine that they’ll sell reasonably well; a “PS3” game brand-new $30 and you get 2-x games per disc is a great value.
I’ll end up buying most of them, if not all of them because towards the 2nd half of the PS2 lifespan I took a break from gaming and came back when PS3 came out. A lot of the games will be completely new experiences to me. I might even buy that Sly cooper comp., not really excited about it though.
So I just saw that Hulu plus is coming to the PS3. I’ve never tried Hulu, so I’m curious
