Obviously they are going to patch it, I’m sure nobody will know the difference except the people with debug units.
The one site ain’t even shipping the thing until the end of the month, so it might be patched before you even recieve it. If you had 2 PS3s, I can see it be worth buying and just never update the other PS3.
Knowing how Sony took our Other OS away, I could see that happening. 
EDIT: Holy crap, I totally didn’t think about the possibility of unlocking the ability to play PSP games on the PS3. Sexy.
Could be something if they found a way to beat Sony’s updates long enough to build a homebrew dev community. But Sony’s invested way too much in slashing PS3’s price (and hardware) in half to take this lightly.
They could include firmware updates on disc for future games, which refuse to boot without the proper firmware.
I call BS on the whole thing anyways, since it’s fairly easy to fake. The asking price of $150 USD, the fact that these guys don’t ACTUALLY know how it works, the claim they got it off a chip maker from China, and the claim it “tricks retail PS3s into thinking they are dev units” all scream a quickie cash grab to sucker as many people as possible, then disappear.

Like I’ve explained before, there are 2 cores on the Cell running constantly to prevent a system compromise.
Further, the key to the Cell is locked in the Cell itself. It’s essentially locking the key to the safe, IN the safe that it opens.
That is where Sony as a corporation is dumb as fuck. I bought the Sony Ericsson w800i, the first walkman phone years ago when it was launched. Inside of the packaging was a Sandisk memory stick. Sony makes their own memory sticks, but must have got a better deal buying them from somewhere else. LOL
A GSM chip can’t be more than $5, PSP should have had one years ago. I bet the reason they don’t have it is because of the deal they have with Ericsson, whereas Sony won’t make any cell phones.

Sony makes products for the sake of making products (quality ones, maybe not the PS3 so much). They dont try to do something to “know” they are going to sell. They make products to OWN the market. I love Sony products. Owned every Playstation (including PSP). Had a walkman, had a disc walkman, had a minidisc, sadly there is no ipod from Sony.
Expect Sony to make a PSP phone. PSP Go proves that they are going to make one or at least attempt. I bet they will have two models, cell phone and non-cell phone version.
honestly they should have made a psp phone years ago. the sales of psp’s would have been at least 10 times as many as those of the nds. seriously.

I would love for them to make a fucking UMD drive that hooks to PS3, so I can play my PSP games on my HDTV without having to sit so close. I would buy more PSP games that’s for damn sure.
