The Official PS3 thread

What are the recent downloadable games being recommended for PSN? I haven’t checked in awhile and just want to hear some opinions on some of the recent stuff.

I can’t comply.

Team Destiny always does the lame ass straight-line battle systems where for some unexplainable reason your character can’t simply run in any other direction besides left and right, even in 3D. “But you can sidestep!!!” Yay. From what I understand they FINALLY fixed that shit in Graces, but it’s very limited and you’re still primarily stuck to a line where enemies can pelt you with shit you could have avoided like big AoE spells, if only your party lived in MagicLand where the world has three dimensions.

Team Symphonia learned that this was retarded, and brought the best thing since sliced bread to the Tales games in Abyss: Free Run. So simple. So freeing. And the battle system was better for it.

I disagree. ToD definitely had the most fun battle system. Free run made Abyss too easy :X. Abyss was still very awesome though.

Death Spank: 10-12 hours for mindless hack and slash fun (zelda meets diablo with witty humor). There is a demo, so try it first.

Joe Danger: Go for the highest amount of points type game while doing some awesome moto tricks.

Soldner X-2 Final Prototype: If you love side scrolling shooters, then get this. Skip the first one and just play the second one. Again the replay value is for points.

Tales of Monkey Island: Point and click adventure that is all about the dialog.

Trine: Very innovative 3-character puzzle platform. Its now like less than half the price, which is worth it.

Thats all I got for now. Earthworm Jim HD comes out next week, so prepare for that (I rather have VectorMan instead though).

My PS3 makes an occassional “beep”. Like, out of the blue, it’ll “beep” randomly. Normal?

star ocean sucks. soo anybody else got that jpn naruto demo? shit actually looks good, havent played it yet but saw my lil bros busy with it. again, shit looks pretty damn good. i just dont know how good the system is, cause i never could get into those naruto fighters.

Mine used to do this sometimes when playing MGS4

so my girlfriends co worker said her sons ps3 has been acting up since he started playing call of duty on it. she said it freezes up and when he plays other games, they get all pixelated and glichtes. Im not sure what could be causing it. it just sounds like the system is on its last leg. do you guys know what the issue(s) may be??

Ask her if he has it sitting on the carpet. if it’s not that, then maybe the fan isn’t functioning as well as it should be, or the graphics chipset/card is dying.

That PS3 Definitely needs to be set vertically. MW2 really screws with PS3s for some reason. Makes the CPU get really hot.

Setting it vertically will allow it to cool a lot more efficiently.

“I’m going to make you regret randomly encountering me!” - Lucius (Trinity Universe)

This game has the most horrible, cheesy one-liners, and I love almost all of them.
The combination of Rosa from Death Smiles and now this has me in an animesugar-coma state.

Even as a person that can’t stand the typical “ohhh kawaiiiiii ^____^ desu desu ekekeeek~~~” otaku shit, in regards to Trinity Universe, I can’t deny the cute lines from the characters have put a smile on my face more often than not.

The gameplay itself is not completely horrible, but it could have been tweaked a little more. Battle is a little more involved than typical JRPG (think something along the lines of Eternal Sonata). You have a timer that goes down constantly (and drops in chunks when you perform actions), and when it runs out that turn is over. You can link character turns and continue on combos, the higher the hit count the more super bar you build up.

Simple game mechanics, but it helps me avoid sitting there while going, “Oh, look, a random encounter. What should I do? X X X X X X X X X XX X X X X X X X X X XX X X X”. Little things like that keep me interested in these games much longer.

The story is pretty dumb so far. To be truthful, I don’t have much of an idea as to why I’m doing the things that I am, but I have to say I’m having a pretty fun time doing them anyway.

The first thing I had to do was turn down the damn in-game music. Who thought that having the J-pop crap at the same volume as in-game voices (read: loud) was a good idea? It’s at 50% volume now (relative to where it started), and it’s at a nice level where it can get my foot tapping when I’m not paying attention, but not loud enough to make me go, “What the hell is this shit?”

More to come when I’m done raiding this floating school library and killing plants. Yeah, I have no idea, but I’ll be damned if I’m not going to kill everything in sight anyway.

Where’d you read that? A quick google search got me no results. Now I’m thinking about jumping on board earlier than expected to get those extra 3 months

EDIT: Eh, checking out various forums, seems to be just hearsay. Whatever, I signed up just now out of fear . One thing I like is how it says in yellow that this shit auto-renews at the end of your term. Well, you can just go to Services under Transaction Management and turn that crap off…very first thing I went and looked for.

Here’s hoping they get more 3rd party content discounted, so far most of it is Sony/PSN-exclusive fare.

yea i read it on some forum, forgot which one though.

i’m def not gettin it anymore. ps+ is just a way to get consumers to spend more. i was gonna get it cuz of future discounts. don’t really care for “free” games or free avs/themes. i still have all my ps1 games. minis are meh. i’ll wait til they have some shit i actually want (which is not alot).

money i woulda spent on ps+ is goin towards a TE stick.:karate:

random, wish splosion man was on psn

If PSN+ came with an expanded friends list (ie 200 instead of 100) and also the ability place friends in groups (clan members for socom, people to play sf with, separate lists for that), then it might be worth it.

Backbreaker gets major update, new gameplay features

‘Major patch’ being worked on for Backbreaker In a move that shows serious dedication to both their community and the Backbreaker franchise, NaturalMotion Games have lifted the lid on Greathouse, the forthcoming update to their euphoria-powered football game, Backbreaker.

The community inspired update introduces brand new features, gameplay enhancements and tons of important tweaks, resulting in a greatly enriched Backbreaker experience that looks to offer far more than typical console game patches.

?We are lucky to have such a passionate community who have supported us throughout the development of Backbreaker and continue to do so post-launch,? said Todd Gibbs, Head of Game Development, NaturalMotion Games. ?Greathouse will give them what they have asked for, packed as it is with additions, changes, tweaks and requests taken directly from our online forums, reviews, as well as from individual players who spent time at our offices testing the latest features. I am extremely proud of what the team has managed to achieve in just a month.?

Major features in Greathouse include:

*** Brand new replay system with the addition of seven fully functional cameras, including free flight mode and a cinematic ?ball-lock? option.**
*** More than 100 new plays added, including an additional nine formations.**
*** Improved Quarterback camera view and passing game.**
*** A user-catch system, giving the player a much greater level of control over the on-field action.**
*** Interception control, the user is now given full control over interception attempts when controlling a defensive player.**
*** Comprehensive review of the penalty rulings following an analysis of reported errors.**

?We were stunned by the sheer volume of user videos that were posted on YouTube following the release of Backbreaker,? said Ant Lewis, Lead Designer, NaturalMotion Games. ?It is obvious that the community loves the realism and live nature of the game and wants to share their unique moments. The new suite of cameras introduced with Greathouse will give them complete creative control over their footage and we are excited to see what appears as a result.?

The Greathouse update is currently progressing through final tuning and is scheduled for release in early August.

Holy shit, that’s a metric fuckton of stuff to add and change for a console patch. You think that any of the major gaming magazines will re-review this game?

I’m still not feeling the Backbreaker hype. It’s not that I’m a Madden fanboy, but something about it just strikes me as…generic. Football games don’t get me excited unless it’s Mutant League, Tecmo or Blitz (NFL or the League) in general…

My friend has an old 160 gig PS3 and I was wondering if he could still play PS2 games on it, or since he put updates on the system he can’t anymore?

You can ONLY play PS2 games on the original 20 and 60 units, and the MGS4 80GB unit.

Quick google search says the 160 gig never had the ability to play ps2 games. No firmware update got rid of backwards play, just the removal of OtherOS.

You owe it to yourself to find a cheap ps2. So worth it, I still play mine (gasp I got two of them!).
