The Ikea-style flatpack aspect of a Kraylix appealed to my wife (she is 100% behind me getting a cabinet again), but she said āwe just donāt have room for one in our current houseā.
I replied (jokingly) āWell, thereād be room if I were single.ā
Yeah, that went over about as well as you think it did.
Lol, this sounds like a horrible setup. Thereās something to be said for women that will tolerate cabs. I have to reiterate how happy I am to have mine on a regular basis to defend the poor thing.
I while back, when I was nooby fresh (still a noob, just not as much now) I got the idea to make a HD cab/entertainment center. The idea was for it to serve the function of the entertainment center, but have a control panel and all the wiring to work on various systems. The wife was actually okay with this. I even installed google sketchup, learned some basics and got a rough design down. I did some research and got a little experience with modding and figured out:
a. Seems having the lcd vertical (to function as a TV) would force you to move the cp away from the screen to the point that the cabinet would be huge and
b. I had no idea what the hell I was doing. Really, this would be a project for a custom stick veteran or an electronics and woodworking whiz, and Iām neither. This would have been a cluster of biblical proportions.
use the seat section of a Megalo 2 rip out the guts and wire it up to an LCD⦠the projection units break easily so these shouldnāt be too hard to come by (relatively)ā¦
then you can wheel it away when you arent using itā¦
Iāve thought about the vewlix stand. I may do something like that in the future. The point was kind of to have something that incorporated the āframed-screen all-in-one-nessā of the vewlix but at the same time not have that space āonlyā be a game machine. I even thought about a detachable cp that would have a board underneath that protruded forward and slid into a slot on the top-front of the main unit. That way I could design it as a cool entertainment center that wrapped around the tv and encapsulated it like an lcd sit-down cab, then you slide in and tighten down the cp and itās a game machine. The challenge would be making it look natural in both configurations.
Like I said, though, this is something that I would love to do somewhere down the line, but it would involve technical challenges that Iām nowhere near tackelling on this scale right now. Soon Iām going to turn the corner from modding to building my first custom. I need to go through some āgrowthā before I can plan and execute anything like this idea.
Yeah, it will take forever, because you already have started to play xD! Cabinet Builderās Rule #1: Donāt start playing before you finish your job.
Gonna take it apart this weekend and prime it Iāve only had it for a week or so and i really wanna paint it. Just coming up with a color combo but i might end up going black with some sticker wraps.
